Prologue

Blazefur watched, smiling, as Fawnfur curled her tail for the first time around her new born kits. It had been a hard birth, partially because it was night and the clouds covered all light the stars and moon could offer, and because the father, Beetlewing wouldn't stop fretting over his mate. Blazefur dipped his head to the queen and backed out of the den, taking his apprentice, Foxpaw, with him.

Once outside, Blazefur closed his eyes, signaling to Foxpaw that she should announce the news. The red she-cat grinned and turned to the crowd of cats. "A tom and a she-kit!" She announced.

Approving of this news, the Clan yowled and purred. Oakstar stepped forward. "Good job, both of you. This would not have been possible without both of your help,"

Blazefur nodded. "It was our honor." Signaling towards the nursery, he entered with Foxpaw.

"Decided any names yet?" He inquired softly.

Beetlewing looked up from where his mate was fast asleep, and quietly prodded each of the kits with a gentle paw. They stirred, opening their eyes and blinking at the medicine cat and his apprentice. Nightkit had dark blue eyes. Duskit's where amber. Foxpaw's eyes widened as Nightkit seemed to narrow her eyes at them and let out a tiny, almost inaudible hiss.

Blazefur noticed it too. He turned to Beetlewing.

Beetlewing smiled. "The tom is Duskit, and the tiny fluffy one is Nightkit."

Foxpaw smiled. "They're wonderful, Beetlewing."

Blazefur narrowed his eyes. "We'll leave you two to it. May StarClan light their paths."

Blazefur quickly exited the den, almost running to the Leader's den. The brown medicine cat signaled for his apprentice to come with them. "First go get Honeyheart."

Foxpaw, noticing her mentor's urgent tone, hurried off towards the Warrior's den.

Oakstar turned around when Blazefur entered his den. "What's wrong? What is it?"

Blazefur's eyes flashed. "I recieved a prophecy about a moon ago. It said, A rose will wrap itself around the night until there is nothing left but thorns. And I think it's coming true." He continued to tell his leader about what he had witnessed in the nursery.

Oakstar's eyes narrowed, deep in thought. "Even if this prophecy where to be true, and about Nightkit, we can't be sure. I think we should wait and just watch her. I'll tell Honeyheart to keep an eye on her. You and Foxpaw go get some rest."

Blazefur dipped his head respectfully. "Very well."

The medicine cat leaped from Oakstar's den, landing on the hard ground. Foxpaw observed him. "So?"

"He said he'll keep an eye on her."

Foxpaw lashed her tail. "Do you think that'll be good enough?"

"I hope so," Blazefur mewed worriedly. "I want you to keep an eye on her as well, alright? Keep an eye oi for anything... unusual."

Foxpaw eyed her mentor. "I'll make sure."

The medicine cat amd his apprentice padded into the medicine den, unaware of the red she-cat hiding behind a rock.

Rosefeather's eyes flashed in the darkness. So StarClan wanted to take her on? She would show them.

She would show them all.
