The setting sun cast shadows across the clearing as the cats of ShadowClan gathered beneath the Dark Rock. Nightfeather sighed as she stared up at Shadestar, who was lifting his tail for order.
"As you all know, Lilyheart has recently fell into a deep sleep." He began grimly.
The crowd was deathly quiet.
"Foxfang and Blazefur are doing their best to pinpoint the cause."
Nightfeather felt irritation bubble in her throat. They all knew this already. What was the point of stating it again?
"Nightfeather?" Shadestar asked.
Nightfeather's eyes shot open, ears warming with embarrassment as every cat stared at her. She avoided their searching gazes and cleared her throat. "I'm sorry, Shadestar. What?"
Shadestar narrowed his eyes. "I asked if you knew anything about this strange occurrence, since it's happened to you."
Nightfeather swallowed. She recalled the time when she had slipped into the deep sleep. Her claws dug into the ground at the memory of the Dark Forest. But of course, she couldn't tell the Clan that.
"No. I don't remember anything." She meowed crisply.
Snickers rose from behind her and she whipped around, eyes narrowed.
Rainheart stared back at her, eyes flashing with contempt. A smug smirk was plastered on his face. Sparrowwing sat next to him, looking a bit uncomfortable. Nightfeather shut her eyes as the familiar loss of breath settled in her chest and turned back around. The crowd was dispersing, though Shadestar remained. His leg muscles rippled as he leaped to the ground.
"Rainheart, Sparrowwing, you can leave now." He ordered firmly. "Nightfeather?"
Nightfeather averted her gaze from his. "Yes?"
Shadestar heaved a sigh before sitting in front of her. "Are you alright? I saw how Rainheart and Sparrowwing were treating you back there."
Nightfeather wanted to screech that no, she wasn't alright, but something held her back. "I'm just worried about Runningpaw and Lilyheart." She lied through her teeth.
Shadestar gave her a suspicious glance before nodding. "Very well. Just remember, you can always speak to me."
Nightfeather plastered a smile on her face and turned to stalk away. Her paws slapped against the wet ground as her pace quickened, along with her breath. She ducked into the warrior's den.
Rainheart and Sparrowwing sat in the very corner of the dark den, eyes flashing in the darkness. Nightfeather narrowed her eyes and made her way forward. Looks like I'm not getting any sleep today, she thought bitterly.
"Well, well," Rainheart began cockily. "Look what we have here."
Nightfeather felt her fur begin to bristle. "Shut up, Rainheart." She hissed.
Rainheart laughed and leaned in. "What was that? I couldn't hear you over how stupid you are."
Nightfeather whipped around, slashing a claw across his nose. Sparrowwing gasped, but Rainheart just grinned.
"Aren't you a special little snowflake?" He spat. "Sparrowwing was right to get rid of you. He's glad you're gone."
Nightfeather turned away from him and sheated her claws. "I don't care about him. He was nothing to me." She growled.
Rainheart snorted. "Don't be dumb. He hates you, but you still adore him, don't you? Well guess what? He has something to say to you."
Nightfeather turned around, breath hitching in her throat. She watched the tabby tom through narrowed eyes as he stood up. He looked flustered as he glanced back at his brother.
"Go ahead!" Rainheart hissed. "Say it!"
Sparrowwing gave hin a wordless nod before turning back to the black she-cat. "I'm glad Fawnfur di-"
Nightfeather gave a screech and leaped forward, rage burning in her eyes. She pushed the tom to the ground and dug her claws into his fur, her legs raking down his belly.
Suddenly, she was being pulled off and pinned down by Pebblepelt, who gazed down at her in shock. She writhed in his grip, sobs raking her body.
Shadestar's angry voice came from above. "What did you say to her?!"
"We...I didn't..." Sparrowwing fumbled for words, but Rainheart stepped in for him.
"Sparrowwing told her that he was glad Fawnfur died. I don't know why!" He insisted, voice laced with false innocence.
"Sparrowwing! My den, now!" Shadestar hissed before turning to Pebblepelt.
Nightfeather closed her eyes, head throbbing. She felt a weight leave her, and she sat up, fur ruffled and eyes dull.
"Nightfeather," Shadestar meowed carefully. "Pebblepelt is going to take you to the medicine den now."
Nightfeather nodded soundlessly and got up to trail after the large tom. He gave her a nod, eyes flashing with pity before ducking into the clearing. She lowered her head, cheeks warming as the stares of her Clan were focused kn her. She caught a few whispers.
"Poor thing..."
"Broke her heart..."
"...Fawnfur..."
She found herself whispering the name over and over to herself, as if it would bring her back.
Foxfang was waiting for her inside the medicine den, tail swaying from side to side. Her usually bright eyes were dark with exhasution.
"Nightfeather!" Runningpaw piped up from his nest, but Blazefur shuhsed him.
Nightfeather padded forward with a sigh. "My head hurts," she murmured.
Foxfang ran a tail across her spine. "I know, I know. Eat this."
She lapped up two black seeds and watched as Blazefur approached her a bit cautiously.
"I'm sorry, Nightfeather." He rumbled. "What they said was awful."
Nightf swallowed as she finally found her voice. "Yeah."
Foxfang ushered her over to a nest. "You need your rest." She ordered as Nightfeather nestled herself in.

Nightfeather sprinted through the forest, breath coming in gasps as she chased after the shadowy figure. Her paws slammed into the ground as she skidded to a stop.
"Wait! Tell me who you are!" She pleaded.
The cat slowly turned. Their eyes flashed in the darkness, and Nightfeather gasped.
"Fawnfur," she breathed.
The white-speckled she-cat's jaws opened, but instead of words, water rushed out. It splashed onto the ground. Suddenly, the water began to fade into pink, and then red. Nightfeather's eyes widened when she relaized the thick liquid was blood.
Fawnfur's fur began to darken until it was black. Her paws brightened to white, but the flow of blood didn't stop. Instead, it quickened, the rushing sound growing louder. Nightfeather recognized the she-cat Sparrowwing was with.
"Who are you!?" Nightfeather demanded, voice drowned out by the sound of blood.
The flow suddenly stopped, the air becoming quiet once again.
The next sentence that ripped through the air caused fear to rush into Nightfeather.
"I am your worst nightmare."

Nightfeather woke up with a gasp. She felt her breath hitch in her throat as she stared into the darkness of the medicine den. Foxfang and Blazefur's quiet breathing rose from the small cave they slept in. She trained her eyes on a strange shape next to Lilyheart, who was still asleep.
"No!" Nightfeather breathed as she recognized the she-cat from her dream.
But when she blinked, she was gone.
