SCENE H

INT. HALLWAY – LATER

Travis observes a student drinking from the water fountain. He takes notes. The student looks at him, confused.

TRAVIS

Oh, don't mind me. But how cool would a slushy fountain be?

The guy nods in agreement and keeps sipping. Wynter jogs in.

WYNTER

Out of my way. Trying to run here.

She slams into Travis, knocking his books to the floor where they're trampled on by the rest of the P.E. class. She moves to the elevator and smacks the Up button, running in place. When the elevator opens, Coach scowls at her from inside. He points firmly in the direction of the other runners and blows his whistle. Wynter hurries to catch up.

TRAVIS

No, go ahead. I'll get them myself.

He gathers his scattered books and takes them to his locker. Nelson approaches him.

NELSON

I thank you for your assistance, but your service is no longer needed. Key, please.

TRAVIS

Oh, right.

Travis searches his bag. Then his locker.

TRAVIS (CONT'D)

Oh, no.

NELSON

Oh no, what?

TRAVIS

Uh...

He scans the floor, searches his surroundings. The key is nowhere in sight.

TRAVIS (CONT'D)

Funny thing. I hid it in such a good place that I can't even find it.

NELSON

You said I could trust you.

TRAVIS

I know. I'm just going to have to retrace my steps.

He starts walking backward and comes across the student who was at the water fountain.

TRAVIS

Do you mind?

He moves the student back to the fountain then continues down the hall.

INT. MAIN OFFICE – MOMENTS LATER

Travis enters and goes up to the secretary at the desk.

TRAVIS

I'm looking for a key. Have you seen one around?

SECRETARY

I have actually.

She goes behind the counter and brings out a box of Lost and Found items. She digs through the box then pulls out a rubber key that reads, "The Key to Success." She hands it to him.

TRAVIS

The key to success. Too bad it isn't working.
