ACT ONE

SCENE A

FADE IN:

INT. DUPLEX HIGH SCHOOL HALLWAY – DAY

Halley Shields sits in front of her locker, sketching in her notebook. She tugs at her blazer's collar.

The bell rings. She's climbing to her feet when Nelson Huntley trips over her legs. Halley's sketchbook falls to the floor.

HALLEY

I'm so sorry. Are you okay?

NELSON

I'm very much awake now. Thanks.

He picks up her sketchbook, takes a quick peek and returns it to her.

NELSON (CONT'D)

Nice sketch.

HALLEY

Thanks.

NELSON

You're New Girl.

HALLEY

I would prefer Halley, but if you must be technical than, yes. I'm New Girl.

NELSON

(amused) Well, you might want to get going, New Girl. You don't want to be late.

He heads toward the exit.

HALLEY

Aren't classes the other way?

Nelson spins back around.

NELSON

Who says I'm going to class?

He exits. Halley is curious but makes her way to class.
