Savannah groaned as Lily nudged her awake. Savannah laid there for a moment, reminding herself that today she would start fixing herself, and that means that she would have to get up and actually put effort into her appearance.
She finally got out of bed. "Morning," she said with a yawn as she went to her trunk to get out her robes.
"Morning!" chorused the girls.
Savannah went into the bathroom and tugged a brush through her hair before using a spell to straighten it. It looked odd to her, as she was used to having it wild. Nonetheless, she didn't put on any makeup before she tugged on her robes and actually let them hang properly on her small form. She struggled with the tie for a bit before finally realizing that she could use magic. After she had her tie tied, she straightened her collar. She slipped on the painful flats that the school had tried to make her wear every year. And now I remember why I never wear these damn things, she thought as they cut into her heels. Nonetheless, she left them on. She was going to leave the bathroom when she stopped to peer at her reflection.
Her blonde hair was actually straight, with not a single strand out of place. She didn't have on any mascara or eyeliner, so she thought she looked even younger. Her robes were perfect, making her look like Lily in that respect.
She didn't look like herself.
But that's a good thing, she reminded herself before finally exiting the bathroom.
The other girls' eyes lingered on her for a moment, contemplating whether or not to say anything about her different appearance. Finally, they decided it best not to say anything.
"Ready?" Savannah asked after she grabbed her messenger bag that had been cleaned out of all Sugar Quills and anything else besides her books and regular quills. It was surprisingly lighter, which shocked Savannah since she had out an Undetectable Extension and Weightlessness Charm on it years ago. Maybe it was a subconscious thing.
The girls nodded before following Savannah out.
When Savannah entered the Great Hall, let's just say it took Sirius a moment to remember where he was. He was in pure awe at her different appearance. She looked as beautiful as ever, but it was a shock compared to her usual appearance.
And it appeared he wasn't the only one in shock. Nearly all of the students in the Great Hall stopped mid-bite to gawk. They just couldn't believe that Savannah looked so... so put together.
Dalton really couldn't believe it. She still hadn't talked to him and it was really worrying him. In the past they hadn't been able to go more than an hour without talking to one another and this was the second day in a row. He hung his head guiltily when Savannah sat as far from him as she could.
Lily, Alice, and Marlene obviously wanted to sit with the boys, so Savannah chose the seat as far away from the boys as she could. She bit her lip as she surveyed the food.
She finally decided on a piece of toast, some grapes, and a muffin. It was more than she normally had, so she forced herself to eat it all and to ignore the image of her mother and father beating her and Dalton for eating too much.
She was surprised by how full and... good she felt after an actual meal. She hadn't really ever felt like that, since they didn't exactly have enough money to buy much of, well, anything.
Once they were done, Alice looked at the other girls. "Are you guys ready to head to Potions? We've got a long walk."
They all nodded, all of them but Savannah telling the boys they'd see them later since they weren't yet done eating.
Sirius watched with wide eyes as Savannah walked out with the girls, laughing.
"Pads, what did you do to her?!"
"What did I do to her? You caused this, Paws!" Sirius responded, finally being pulled from his trance.
"I wish she would talk to us," Dalton sighed, putting his chin on his hand.
"I know," Sirius agreed, sighing and looking down.
Remus, Peter, and James looked at each other, each raising a brow. They all shrugged, saying that they didn't know what was going on and didn't know if they wanted to.
Finally, all five boys were finished eating. There was only a couple minutes until they had to be in class, making them sprint down to the dungeons.
When they reached the Potions classroom with only a few seconds to spare, Sirius was disappointed to see that the only open seats were across the room from Savannah.
She was smiling and talking to Lily, Alice, and Marlene, but Sirius could tell that she was uncomfortable and forcing herself to talk.
What is she up to? Sirius thought as class began.
——
Later that evening, the girls were by the fire, laughing and talking as if nothing was wrong.
Then the boys decided to join the party. Savannah caught herself glancing over to Sirius. She kept reminding herself that once she fixed herself, once she was normal, there could possibly be a relationship with him. So, she concentrated on smiling and saying things every so often so that she wasn't trapped in her thoughts.
"I agree, Rem, that assignment was dreadful," Savannah agreed when the group started complaining about their homework and Remus brought up a recent assignment from Charms.
Everyone looked at her with surprise in their eyes, though no one said anything. Remus was pleasantly surprised, so he continued, "It took me ages to find the proper books. It seemed like ever other book had information that was pure rubbish."
Savannah nodded. "I spent ages and ages in the library looking for the right books."
"Wait, Sava, you went to the library? You actually tried to get your good grades?" Marlene interrupted, surprised that Savannah went to the library. Normally she doesn't even bother going and still gets a perfect score on the assignment.
Savannah nodded. "I had nothing else to do and I wanted to read some books. It was quite entertaining to read the rubbish that some people wrote."
Remus nodded quickly. "Right? I found it crazy how wrong some of the information was! Like 'One must be doing a handstand to perform the charm,'" Remus quoted.
"Exactly!"
Sirius couldn't help but feel hurt at how fine she seemed to be, while his heart was torn into pieces and he was struggling to keep a smile on his face as he went day after day without speaking to Savannah at all. He missed her.
