Chapter 6
Hi! How are you all doing? I have another chapter for you. This one will go into Moonlight's relation with other gangs. One specifically, but you'll see what gang that is. I am not going to say more than that. So, let's get into it.
A couple of weeks later, Hyunjin's wound has healed and he has been cleared to go back on missions. He had pleaded to go, wanting a second chance to prove that he could do it. His parents were hesitant at first, but agreed. They had assigned one of his friends to be his protector slash partner for the mission though. Hyunjin is more than okay with it considering it is Yeonjun that will be with him. His friend trained alongside him, but had loads more experience in the field. Hyunjin knows he can trust his friend. Tonight, the mission is going to go smoothly. It has to. Later that night, a couple of the gang's men gathered around the docks. The goal of the mission is a money transfer to ensure the loyalty of the gang to Moonlight and in return they will be given protection if the situation calls for it. "You doing alright?" Yeonjun asks, nudging his friend.
Hyunjin nods, "Nothing's gonna go wrong. Right?"
"Of course not," Yeonjun states, "Most missions don't go the way your first one did. They're simple and straightforward. So don't worry. Things will be fine. And if not, I'm here and you have your gun, right?" Hyunjin nods, patting his side pocket where his weapon is. He made sure not to forget it this time. He doesn't want a repeat of his first mission. He knows that his parents agreed to let him continue going on missions, but he knew that they were still wary. If this mission goes smoothly, he can prove to them that he can handle it. Which he can. He definitely can. He's the son of the heads of Moonlight. He can do this. "Hey, deep breath," Yeonjun says, noticing the boy's anxious expression, "You're all good." Hyunjin nods his head and flashes his friend a smile. Although Hyunjin knew that this mission won't be like the other one, he's a bit nervous about the people that they'll be dealing with. He had overheard his parents talking a couple of days ago and they didn't seem so happy about the deal.

"Why would Jaebum and Jinyoung contact us so suddenly?" Jimin asks, "We haven't talked in years."
"I can't exactly ask. It would be a tad bit intrusive. We're not on as great terms as we used to be back then," Namjoon replies. Jimin sighs and leans against the wall. Namjoon has a pen in his hand and he spins it in deep thought. "It's still weird," Jimin huffs, "Should we really be going through with this?"
"There's no reason we shouldn't," Namjoon says, "It's not like we're trading drugs or anything. It's basically them pledging their allegiance. What are we supposed to say? No? That would make us seem like the bad guys."
"No one would question if we do," Jimin states, "Everyone knows what they did."
"It was a long time ago," Namjoon murmurs, "They've changed."
"Can we be sure of that?" Jimin asks.
Namjoon shrugs, "They contacted us. It's up to you, Minnie. Your judgment has always been better than my own." Jimin purses his lips together and bounces the two choices in his head. After a couple of seconds, Jimin lets out a loud sigh, "Let's do it. I hope that this goes well."
"It better," Namjoon says, writing down a note, "Hyunjin's on the team."
"What!?" Jimin exclaims, "No way. We can't send him on this mission."
"We have to, Jimin," Namjoon sighs, "His wound is all healed up and he's been itching for a second chance. We said we let him have that. Remember."
"Yes, I know, but that is all out the window now," Jimin states, "This is JJP. It's Evermore."
"They're not the same as they were before. Evermore...it's not what you think it is," Namjoon says, "Their reach isn't as far. Their strength is not even close to what it once was. They're not what you remember."
"Are we sure about that? They're so secretive these days," Jimin asks.
Namjoon nods, "They're not dangerous. Especially considering the situation. They wouldn't hurt any of our men or do anything brash considering they're trying to settle an alliance."
Jimin nods, "You're right. You're right. Hyunjin will be fine."

Hyunjin frowns, his parents are worried. He's never seen them this distressed over another gang before. He's studied the network of Moonlight and the other gangs stationed in Korea, but he's never heard of JJP or Evermore. He asked around, but no one answered him. They would either look at him with confusion or make up some excuse. Hyunjin sighs, maybe he's just overreacting. After all, his parents still sent him on the mission. They still kept the mission active. If they had thought that their people were at risk, they would've stopped it in an instant. Hyunjin nods his head, feeling a bit more reassured. His parents know what they're doing. He has no reason to worry. "They're here," Yeonjun says, "C'mon." Hyunjin nods and sticks by his friend's side as the two walk over to the gang. "Here's your money," One of the guys says, tossing a black bag onto the floor. The leader of the mission scowls at the action and gestures for one of the men to check it. His eyes don't move from the other gang. Hyunjin shifts a little closer to Yeonjun, already feeling the tension between the two groups. "Yeonjun-ah...what's going on," Hyunjin murmurs.
"Your parents never told you?" Yeonjun says back, his eyes trained on one of the Evermore men. Hyunjin does the same and shakes his head. "I only know a little bit. I had to grill it out of Hoseok hyung. Apparently, they used to be a strong gang as well. They used to be good friends with your parents. Something happened though and your parents were forced to take action. Ever since then, Evermore has been off the grid. A shadow of its former power." Hyunjin shivers, no wonder these guys look so ready to kill him. Moonlight and Evermore have a history. No wonder his parents were nervous. Still, they approached them first. Evermore asked for the alliance first. They wouldn't ask that if they wanted to do them harm. Right? "It's good, sir," One of the men states, "The money is all there." The leader nods his head and gestures for them to take the bag. He sticks his hand out to a tall man, "Nice doing business with you." The man stares at the hand before slapping it away. The leader scowls, but holds up a signal to everyone else to not do anything. "We gave you the money. What about our insurance?" The man states.
"Insurance?" The leader questions.
"Yeah, how do we know we can trust Moonlight?" The man says, "We need written proof that they'll help us."
"You don't need that. Moonlight isn't one to back down on their words," The leader replies.
The man scoffs, "Well, I can't exactly tell that to my bosses. Now can I? I need something to prove that Moonlight will be there when Evermore calls. That's the way an alliance works. I give you something. You give me something in return."
"Our heads, unlike yours, understand what a deal means. They won't leave you high and dry. You don't need to worry," The leader repeats, "You don't need anything in return either. You are paying for our services after all." Evermore's men growl and start to stir at the words spoken by Moonlight's leader. Moonlight's men finger their weapons, prepared to take them out the second it is necessary. The Evermore leader chuckles, "I don't think you understand what I'm saying. If you don't give us something, I'll just take one of those pretty boys for the heads. They'll think it's a wonderful gift to seal our alliance." Yeonjun and Hyunjin both stiffen as the Evermore leader gestures to the two of them. The leader growls and waves at the men. They surround the youngest two members of their crew and whip their weapons out. The Evermore man laughs, "Hilarious. You're trying to protect them." He waves his hand and his men bring out their weapons as well. Hyunjin grits his teeth and looks at Yeonjun, "This doesn't usually happen, right?"
Yeonjun frowns, "No. It's cause Evermore are jerks. I feel like this was just some setup, but I don't get what they want."
"They won't back down," Hyunjin murmurs. This entire situation is only going to end in bloodshed. Moonlight would never give up Yeonjun or Hyunjin. Evermore would not leave until they had something as evidence of the alliance. Both of the gangs are stubborn and won't back down. Someone's going to get shot. Someone may die. And that's what Evermore wants. He didn't notice it before, but there are more of them than his group. They outnumber them. Hyunjin shakes his head as he looks at the conniving glints in the eyes of Evermore's men. "Three and nine," One of the men murmur. Hyunjin glances to his left and scowls as he sees a sniper. "Shit," Yeonjun grimaces, "What is this? Was this all a setup?" It really does seem that way. Things are going this way cause Evermore wants it to. Why though? Why do all of this? They need to find a way to get out of this situation. Something that shakes things up. "I'm going to do something crazy," Hyunjin mutters, "Buy some time. You need to call my parents. They'll back down then." The men glance at Hyunjin, wondering what he could have in mind. "I'll go with you," Hyunjin states loudly, "Just lower your weapons." The boy takes a deep breath as he steps forwards. Yeonjun reaches for his hand holding him back, "This is your plan? Are you nuts?"
"Trust me," Hyunjin murmurs. Yeonjun sighs and lets go of his friend's hand. He nudges one of the guys, who nods his head, already calling for the leaders. "Ooooo," The man chuckles, "See. This kid understands." Hyunjin moves until he is right in front of the Evermore leader. He frowns as he sees the other men still with their guns out. "I said to lower your weapons," Hyunjin states.
The man smiles, "I need to see first if you're a worthy gift for the heads." Hyunjin grits his teeth, there's something so off about all of this. This guy is too confident. Hyunjin tenses as the guy eyes him up and down. He takes a step closer and traces his finger along his chin. Hyunjin frowns as he hears the sound of his parents' men wanting to step in. "Don't," Hyunjin exclaims. They stop moving, even though it kills them to see this happening. The man smiles, "Such beautiful skin, I can't wait to dig my knife into it." Hyunjin blanches and his eyes widen. He's heard those words before. A man's face appears in his mind. A sinister man with a smirk upon his face. Pointy nose, taunt skin, and lips that look like they've eaten something sour. A rat-like face with long hair tied back into a tight bun. Hands slipped into white polyester gloves that touch his face as those words are uttered. Such beautiful skin. Hyunjin's breathe catches in his throat and his hands start to shake. The man chuckles at the boy's expression, "What's wrong? Scared?" Hyunjin knees buckle and his breaths become sharp and shallow. His eyes dart back and forth nervously. Sweat trickles down his forehead and he grabs at his clothes, trying to peel it off of his body. "Hyunjin!" Yeonjun shouts. It doesn't reach the boy, it sounds echoed. His head pounds and his vision starts to blur. The world starts to spin and Hyunjin's breathing becomes heavier. "Hyunjin!!!" Someone screams.
"Put your guns down this instant!" Hyunjin chokes as tears pour from his eyes. His entire body shakes and he reaches around the ground in desperation, nothing but fear coursing through his body like a drug. "Hyunjin! My baby!"
"Get him to the car!"
"We'll deal with them later!"
"Back to base! Hurry! Go!"
"Go!"
"You'll be okay, Hyunjin."
"It's going to be alright."
"We're here."

Jisung grits his teeth as he watches Moonlight's leaders pick Hyunjin up and cart him over to their car. He didn't expect for the boy to react that way. He didn't even look like himself. A shell of the Hyunjin he spoke to a couple of weeks ago. He shakes his head and walks towards the group of Evermore men still standing around. "What are you all doing standing around!?" Jisung exclaims, "You completed your mission. Didn't you? Go!" The men all stare at the boy giving orders for a second before grumbling and walking away. Jisung sighs and runs his hand through his hair. He has no idea what his bosses are planning. What did they want to achieve by doing all of this? Jisung huffs, he's thinking too much into this. His bosses always have a reason. He should trust them.

Namjoon and Jimin pace around in their office. They had sent Hyunjin to be treated by Jin and he was currently resting. The parents are both stressed, not knowing what to do about the situation. "I knew that they had something planned," Jimin mutters.
"Yeah, you were right. I don't understand why though," Namjoon states, "They've never been people to do things like this. It seemed purposeless."
"It's weird. I spoke with Yeonjun. He said the entire situation was off. Their men outnumbered ours. They had snipers," Jimin explains, "It was an ambush from the beginning. A big setup. The thing is I don't understand what they were trying to achieve. They didn't start a gunfight. No shots were fired at all. They didn't get anything out of this, so why even bother?"
"Do you think it has something to do with Hyunjin? They knew he was going to be there," Namjoon says, "They said something to him that would only get to him. It made him have a panic attack."
"But, why would they do that? Even if they knew Hyunjin is our kid, they would never attack him like that," Jimin says, "They have rules when it comes to people like Hyunjin. They would never hurt a child."
"Then, why? Why all of this? It makes no sense. This all means something, but I have no idea what," Namjoon asks rapidly, "What were they trying to achieve? Are they just trying to keep us on edge? Are they threatening us? Why even set this up?"
Evermore, dun, dun, dun!!!! They're trouble, aren't they? Sigh...and Hyunjin! Poor, poor Hyunjin. He'll be okay, he's a strong one. Anyway, I hope that you enjoyed this chapter.
