Chapter 29

I'm back with a new chapter for you all. I hope you are all excited cause there is a lot that's going to happen in this one. I'm not going to tell you much or give you a summary, but you'll be happy to know that things are finally starting to come together. Now, I hope you enjoy the chapter!

"Is it up there?" Namjoon asks from the main floor.

"I'm still looking!" Jimin shouts from inside the attic. Hyunjin paces back and forth beside his dad, wondering if the ring could actually be here. The ring that everyone seems to want. The ring he thought he never had, but may actually have just been collecting dust in his attic. "Should be in here!" Jimin exclaims, peeking out from a hole in the wall with a large box in his hands. Namjoon reaches for it and takes it from Jimin's hands. He passes the box to Hyunjin, who places it to the ground and starts to go through it. "Come down," Namjoon says, gripping onto the ladder to keep it steady. Jimin slowly makes his way out of the attic, closing it shut before heading down. Once his feet are back on the main floor, he helps Namjoon close up the ladder and put it against the wall. Hyunjin sighs as he places his old elementary school clothes onto the floor, trying to find a set that's all messed up from the accident. Namjoon and Jimin get to their knees as well, helping their son search through the box. "Found it!" Namjoon exclaims, taking out a shirt with blood stains and tattered sleeves. Hyunjin's heart skips a beat. If his shirt from that night is in the box, the pants have to be in here as well. The pants that hold that ring. The boy starts to search more desperately for the pants, pushing aside the other clothes and throwing some outside of the box without a care in the world. Jimin and Namjoon frown at their son's actions, but let him be and go pick up the clothes that he is scattering around. Hyunjin's eyes widen when he sees them. They're cargo pants with dirt marks and scratches on them. Hyunjin pulls it from the box and sticks his hands into both of the pockets respectively. His eyes widen when his right hand closes around a cool metal. Hyunjin pulls his hand from the pocket with the object in his fist. He slowly opens it and his eyes widen when he sees a ring that has dried blood coating it sitting in his palm. "It's here," Hyunjin murmurs.

"That's it," Jimin says, "That's the ring that's supposed to open up this fortune that your birth family owns." Hyunjin nods, not knowing what to say. He stares at the ring and is immediately brought back to that memory of his mother handing it to him. Hyunjin shivers as Namjoon kneels beside him. "Can I?" Namjoon asks. Hyunjin passes the ring to his dad, who looks at it with curiosity.

"I can't believe it's actually here," Hyunjin says, "I had no idea..."

"We probably wouldn't have even remembered it was in there if you hadn't shown us that picture," Jimin muses, "It was so long ago."

"Hyunjin, I'm going to clean this and hold on to it. Okay?" Namjoon says.

Hyunjin frowns, "I was actually hoping to keep it."

"I don't know if that's a good idea, Hyunjin," Jimin says, "I think you should let your dad and I hold onto it."

"But, why?" Hyunjin asks, "It was my eomma's..."

"I know," Jimin says, "But this ring...both Jinyoung, Jaebum, and Minhyun want this thing. I don't think you holding on to it is such a good idea. What if they ask about it and then snatch it from you? We can't let either of them know you have it until you know if you can trust them or not."

"We'll keep it safe, Hyunjin," Namjoon says, "We promise. We just don't want anyone to get their hands on this ring." Hyunjin closes his mouth and nods his head, knowing that his parents are right. They can keep it safer then he can. "Good," Jimin says, "It's getting late. You should get some rest. It's a school day tomorrow." Hyunjin nods and quickly gives his parents hugs before heading towards his room.

Hyunjin walks through Moonlight's headquarters after school. His parents had told him to head directly here so that they could talk, which was fine by him cause Jisung said he planned on doing some spying today. "Hey, Hyunjin!" Soobin says from where he's training alongside some of the others. Hyunjin waves at the boy and continues to move forward. He passes by other gang members, who are training or preparing for a mission. He heads over to the stairs and climbs them. Once on the second floor, he makes his way to his parents' office which is at the end of the hall. Hyunjin knocks on the door before opening it up and going into the room. "Hi," Hyunjin says to his parents, closing the door behind him. Jimin and Namjoon flash a smile at their son from where they lean against a desk that has papers scattered all over it. They are facing a large plasma screen that shows pictures of what looks like a crash. Hyunjin stares at it as he moves to stand beside his parents, "Is that from the night you found me?"

Jimin nods, "We've been collecting data all day. We wanted to show you."

"We found a lot more than we thought we would," Namjoon says, "The information you got from Minhyun helped a lot."

"What did you find?" Hyunjin asks. Namjoon holds a remote in his hand and he clicks it causing the screen to change to a map. Jimin points to a large area, "We were there that night. Doing a deal with Taemin's gang. His men said something about receiving a message to stay away from this entire area cause something was going to go down. Like that message that Minhyun traced."

"A street over, there was a car crash," Namjoon says, "And when we were leaving we found you...bloody and injured."

"We should've put two and two together, but we didn't even think about it," Jimin says, "When we couldn't dig up anything on you, we decided then and there we would be making you our kid. We should've done a better job. Should've paid more attention. We should've known all of this already."

"It's fine, appa," Hyunjin says, "It's in the past. If you don't mind me asking, how come you never found anything about me?"

"That's the weird part," Namjoon says, "Hoseok said that all the information was buried deep in the network. We were careless again that night and didn't think to search in depth. We did a basic search for you and came up with nothing."

"A lot of this. The confusion. It was because of our own inattentiveness," Jimin says solemnly.

"Please, don't blame yourselves. You found things out now. Didn't you?" Hyunjin questions.

Namjoon nods, "This time we delved as deep as we possibly could. We looked into that message just to double check if what Minhyun said was the truth. It was. The message came from someone inside of Evermore. Mark Tuan to be specific. One of the only good guys left in that gang. He's close to Jinyoung and Jaebum. If he knew about what was going to go down, he would definitely have warned everyone whether Jinyoung and Jaebum told him to or not."

"Does that mean it was them that caused the accident?" Hyunjin asks. That would mean that Jinyoung and Jaebum are monsters. They lied to him and caused the death of his birth family. They're the reason for the mess that he's in. And he trusted them. He called them his uncles. He wanted them to be his family. His stomach churns at the thought, feeling a bit sick. "We can't say for sure," Jimin says, "It seems like it, but it's all circumstantial. There's no hard evidence to say it was them." Hyunjin lets out a shaky breath, finding some comfort in his appa's words. Nothing has been proven yet. Until it has, he needs to relax. "We found the truth about your past," Namjoon says, "This one was staring us right in the face. We heard of the Hwangs, but we never assumed you would be a part of that family." The man changes the screen to show a picture of a family of four. The mom has straight hair and is wearing very little makeup that lets her natural beauty shine through. She wears a midnight blue dress and a sparkling necklace. The man beside her is her husband and the father of the children. He is in a nice tux and he has a shining smile on his face. The two kids are around the same height and look similar to one another. A boy and a girl with wide smiles and cat shaped eyes. The boy is in a button-down with a cute bow-tie while his sister wears a dress with a large bow that matches her brother's. "That's my mom," Hyunjin murmurs, "And my dad and sister..." He stares at his father and his twin. He's never seen them before. That surreal feeling he had when he first saw his mother hits him again. He feels emotional and happy all at once. "The heads of the Hwang name at the time. Hwang Chansung and his wife, Suji," Jimin says, "And their twin children, Hyunjin and Yeji. Just like Minhyun said, the Hwangs are the royalty of this generation. They're well-off, but the most selfless people you'll ever meet. Basically, everything that Minhyun told you about your birth family is true."

"What about the whole ring thing? Is it true?" Hyunjin asks, "Like the stories that the media spread."

"The stories are there," Jimin confirms, "No way of actually knowing if it's true or not. Only the Hwangs know of that secret."

"Minhyun knew about it," Hyunjin muses, "What about the car crash? Did the police find anything? Like who may have caused it?

"They didn't find much," Namjoon explains, "Your family was famous and they wanted to close the case as quickly as they could or else it would've looked bad on them. It was an accident caused by a collision, but the cops had no idea who hit them. The other car found at the scene was empty. With no leads, the case died. People protested at first, but there was nothing they could do. Over time, people forgot about the case and it just became one of those stories of the past."

"It's a mystery that only we can figure out," Jimin says, "Right now, my eyes are on Jinyoung and Jaebum as the culprits. They lied about being your uncles. That's confirmed now that we know your birth name is Hwang and not Park. And that whole story about having only a mom is a complete lie. It makes them guilty of something, but I don't find that as evidence as to causing the car crash. They're going after you now, but I can't say for sure it was them back then."

"What about Minhyun?" Hyunjin questions, "A lot of what he said matched up with the information that you all found. Can we trust him? Is he actually my brother? Did you find anything about him while searching?"

"He told you the truth it would seem," Namjoon says, "But, oddly enough, we can't find anything about a Hwang Minhyun. You said that your grandfather hired people to hide him, right?" Hyunjin nods his head. "Well, if that's true, they did a damn good job," Namjoon continues, "Our hackers have yet to find a single thing on him. They're still searching though, so we'll know for sure who he is hopefully soon."

"So, he may not be my brother," Hyunjin says, "How did he figure out all of this about my birth family then?"

"That's a question for when we confirm his identity," Jimin states. Hyunjin nods, feeling somewhat better than he had before now that he had some answers. At least now he knows that all of what Minhyun has said is true. Although that would mean that all Jinyoung and Jaebum said are lies. They've been lying to him from the get go. Hyunjin feels sick again, thinking to all those times he hugged the men thinking they were people they weren't. Hyunjin purses his lips, trying not to let it get to him, but it's no easy task. To think he trusted them with his everything, once upon a time. Hyunjin is snapped from his thoughts as the door flies open and his out-of-breath boyfriend staggers into the room. Jisung's hair is plastered to his face and he breathes heavily. He grips his phone tightly in one of his hands and leans the other against the wall. "How did you get in here?" Jimin asks.

"Wooyoung," Jisung pants out, "Thankfully, I ran into him and not that muscular dude with bunny teeth..." The boy closes the door behind him and wipes at his face. "You are lucky, JK definitely would've beat you up," Namjoon states, "I know that you're my son's boyfriend, but you're still a member of Evermore. You can't be here."

"I wouldn't have come here if it wasn't important," Jisung says, "Princess, you know how I told you I was going to spy."

"Yeah," Hyunjin says.

Jisung waves his phone in the air, "Well, I found something out. Jinyoung and Jaebum were yelling so loud. Usually they're more careful than that, but they were really distracted for some reason. Here, I recorded it." The boy clicks on his phone and puts it on the table. Jinyoung and Jaebum's voices filter through and it's clear that they're arguing. "This is taking us years! It shouldn't be taking this freaking long! We finished all the other jobs in less than a week," Jaebum shouts, "There's no reason for this one to have lasted this long."

"And it's my fault!?" Jinyoung yells back, "You're the one that was supposed to check if those bastards died when we rammed into them. I asked you about Hyunjin and you said there's no way he could've survived the crash. Well, he clearly did!"

"I'm not the one who suggested we pretend to be that kid's uncles! That's the stupidest plan I've ever heard! All it did was prolong this ridiculous mission!" Jaebum growls.

Jinyoung huffs, "You're the one that insisted on going after the Hwangs."

"You know exactly why!" Jaebum screams, "Don't act like you didn't want to."

"Yes, I do, now stop yelling at me!" Jinyoung says back, matching the man's volume.

"Please," Jaebum scoffs, "I don't listen to you."

"Im Jaebum!" Jinyoung hisses.

"What?!" Jaebum yells, "What now? What do you want to do, Park Jinyoung!? Do you have another genius plan to fix this mess!?"

"There is no mess," Jinyoung states, "The only issue here is your temper."

"Ha," Jaebum chuckles, "Get off your high horse. The plan has been spiraling. Don't act like everything is going fine. I bet you Hyunjin already knows everything."

"He doesn't," Jinyoung states.

Jaebum snorts, "Yeah, right. I don't need to have your skills to know that he knows the truth." The two fall silent for a second. "Well, what the hell do you suggest we do then Mr. Smart-ass?" Jinyoung says.

"Kill him," Jaebum says, "Like I've wanted to do from the get go."

"Ugh, fine," Jinyoung huffs, "We'll go with that until I can come up with a better plan."

"There is no better plan," Jaebum states, "Killing him is the only option." The recording comes to a stop after that and Jisung takes his phone back. "Who do they think they are to threaten my son?" Namjoon growls.

Jimin crosses his arms and nods, "We'll keep you safe, Hyunjin. Don't worry." Hyunjin looks to his dads, wondering what they could have in mind to protect him. "I've been spying for so long," Jisung murmurs, "Only now did I find something useful."

"You did well, Jisung. We needed this. It's our evidence," Jimin says, "Jinyoung said it himself. They caused the car crash."

"We just need to figure out why," Namjoon comments, "I think it has something to do with Yugyeom. Everything those two ever did following the accident was about their son. This is probably no different."

"Wouldn't that mean that Hyunjin's birth family had something to do with Yugyeom's death?" Jisung asks.

Jimin nods, "Maybe the Hwangs have a dark side..."

"The Hwangs," Jisung repeats, "That means that Hyunjin's birth family is actually the Hwangs. Minhyun was telling the truth?" Namjoon and Jimin nod, gesturing to the boy to come closer so they can show him what they found. Meanwhile, Hyunjin is trying to make sense of all of this. Now it's finally been confirmed. Jinyoung and Jaebum killed his family. His parents and his twin sister. This entire time the one that has hurt him the most has been right there. He was sharing meals with his family's killers. He was watching movies with them. He was having fun with them. Hyunjin lets out a shaky breath and looks towards the ground. How could he have been so gullible? How could he have believed that Jinyoung and Jaebum were his uncles? He said he would be careful, but he fell for their trap. He did truly believe at times that they were his family. But, all along they were nothing more than murderers. Hyunjin feels like he may hurl and steadies himself against the table. He tries to keep as quiet as possible, not wanting to worry the others. Hyunjin dry heaves as he thinks about Jinyoung and Jaebum. Thinks of their trickery and lies. Thinks about how they played with him and ruined his life. Thinks about how he wanted his family's murderers to be his family. Hyunjin falls to his knees and covers his mouth as he lets out a silent sob.

Things are starting to get crazy. Hyunjin finally has some answers, but also a whole other can of worms to deal with and figure out. Did you know that Minhyun was actually the one telling the truth? Or did you trust JJP? Lol. To be honest, I think all of you were sus of Jinyoung and Jaebum from the beginning. For good reason too, as you can see from their actions in this chapter. Anyway, I hope that you enjoyed it. If you did, please vote, comment, follow me, add this story to your library, and check out my Kpop One-Shots book. Until next time. Bye, everyone!
