Chapter 2

I am back with another chapter. This one is going to go into Hyunjin's history with his family and it definitely isn't a completely happy, normal one. That's all I have to say, let's get into it.

It wasn't a family right away. But, that's what Namjoon, Jimin, and Hyunjin grew to be. Although it had a rough start, they got there. Eventually. Namjoon and Jimin brought Hyunjin home that same day. They had their maids prepare a room for the young boy. It was perfect. It was filled with toys galore, from LEGO sets to nerf guns. When they showed the child the room, he had no reaction. He just entered and sat on the bed. His eyes looked dull and devoid of emotion. It was weird. He didn't remember much, but he felt like he lost something. It made him feel empty inside. Nothing changed that feeling. Not the two nice men who took him in. Not their huge home that didn't feel like his own. Not the men that stood around the house protecting them. Not the room that felt like it belonged to someone else. It all felt off. Hyunjin should appreciate it, but he just couldn't. "This will be your room, okay Hyunjin?" Jimin says, "We'll let you get yourself situated. Lunch will be soon, so we'll call for you, alright." The couple awaited the child's answer, but received none. They shared a look before closing the door and leaving the boy to his own devices. When they had called him down to lunch, the child didn't come rushing down the stairs as they had hoped. He didn't even answer their calls. They had to bring the food to the boy, who ate it silently before handing the plate back. That's the way it continued for weeks. Namjoon and Jimin worried, but they couldn't force the kid to do anything. He wasn't in his element. He was in a stranger's home. Hyunjin would come out when he was ready. They could only hope that it would be soon. "Hello," Jungkook says as he knocks on the door. He peeks inside to see Hyunjin fiddling with a stuffed dog. The young man opens the door and enters the room, a bowl of noodles in his hand. He places it on Hyunjin's desk, "Eat up." The boy looks at the noodles for a second before placing the stuffed animal back on the bed. He stands and goes to sit at his desk. Jungkook watches him for a second before turning around and heading towards the exit. Before he leaves he looks back at the young boy and lets out a sigh. Jungkook's hyungs have invested so much in this kid, yet he's like this. He understands, sort of. The kid has been through a lot, but this is a tad bit ridiculous. He doesn't expect the kid to treat Jimin and Namjoon like his parents, but he should at least acknowledge them. "You know, you're lucky," Jungkook states. Hyunjin looks at the boy with a confused expression. "Namjoon hyung and Jimin hyung took you in. They didn't have to. They didn't have to save you," Jungkook says, "They could've left you in that alley. You're lucky that it was them that found you. If it were anyone else, I guarantee they wouldn't treat you like this." Hyunjin looks down on the floor, avoiding the man's gaze. He knows that they've done a lot, but he's never asked for any of it. Why did they keep doing all of this for some kid they found? "I'm not saying this to make you feel guilty. I just want you could see how lucky you are. Namjoon hyung and Jimin hyung are the best people I know. It's not surprising that they would take you in and treat you as their own. They're always like this. They always care more about others than themselves. Don't you see how nice they've been? They haven't pushed you to come out of your room. They've just sat quietly and are letting you adjust in your own time. They continue to do things for you even though you never move from this room. I just overheard them talking about hiring a private tutor for you so that you don't have to leave and go to school. You're lucky, Hyunjin. To have been taken in by someone like them. To be cared for by them. So lucky. I'm not saying this to make you go and thank them a million times over. I just want you to appreciate what they did. And try. Try to treat them right. They're trying with you. Try with them." Hyunjin looks back up and slowly nods his head. He can do that. He can try. He wants to try. Jungkook flashes the kid a smile before leaving the room. Hyunjin pokes his noodles with his chopsticks for a second before slowly standing up. He pushes in his chair and carefully lifts his bowl. He slowly walks out of his room and down the hallway. He can hear voices and he follows them until he reaches the dining room. Jimin and Namjoon both stop talking the second they see the boy walk in. They stay silent as Hyunjin walks over and places his bowl on the table. He pulls the seat back and sits down. Namjoon looks to Jimin with a shocked expression on his face, which the other returns. "I dropped some soup on the floor when I was walking over," Hyunjin says, "I'm sorry."

Jimin can't help, but smile when Hyunjin speaks to them, "That's alright, Hyunjin. We'll have someone clean it up. You eat up, okay? I'm sure that you're starving." Hyunjin nods his head and picks his chopsticks back up. The young boy shovels the noodles into his mouth and the couple watches with a fond expression. This is a step. Hyunjin is opening up to them. Something that they have waited ages for. This means something, doesn't it? Maybe, one day, they'll take enough steps together and be a family. Namjoon smiles and pats Jimin on the knee. Jimin flashes the expression back. Maybe they were getting a bit ahead of themselves. But, they could hope.

◇─◇──◇────◇────◇────◇────◇────◇─────◇──◇─◇

That hope did prove to be enough. Because, the three took more steps every single day. It brought them closer. They went through it all. The bad. Such as when Namjoon would hurt himself by being clumsy. When Jimin would push himself so hard to the point where he would collapse. And when Hyunjin got nightmares. It made no sense for a kid with no memories. How could he dream? Especially of something as bad as what haunts him most nights. It didn't make sense, but every time he had that dream he was more terrified than he's ever been before. Hyunjin lets out a strangled sob as he finds himself stuck once more. His blankets are pulled taunt around him and his brow is lined with sweat. He's moving and then suddenly a flash of light hits his eyes. In less than a second, he's flying. Like gravity doesn't have a hold on him. Until it does and he's plummeting to the Earth. He hears echoing screams and then he feels it. Pain. Blossoming like a rose. Followed with the sound of shattering glass and bending metal. Then comes the loud boom and the heat. This is what destruction must sound like. What tragedy sounds like. One second it's all there. The confusion, the hurt. The flashing lights. And then, nothing. The next thing he knows the world is a blur. His ears ring and his vision is foggy. His chest aches. And he can make out voices. Deep voices that chill him to the bone. "Is he still alive?" A voice asks.

The other voice scoffs, like it's the stupidest question ever, "Of course not. A little boy could never handle this crash." Fear ran through him like a knife, ripping his insides to shreds. The thudding came next with the shadowy outline of a shoe approaching him. Hyunjin tenses as he sees a hand reach towards him. He tries to scream, but no noise leaves his mouth. The hand just gets closer and closer. "Hyunjin! Hyunjin!" Jimin shouts, shaking the young boy. The child continues to toss and turn, whining in fear. Jimin continues to nudge the boy until he slowly stirs awake. Hyunjin's eyes shoot open and tears build instantly. He lets out strangled sobs and reaches his arms out, seeking comfort. Jimin takes the young boy into his arms and whispers words of comfort into his ear. He rubs his hand up and down the child's back as he sobs into Jimin's shoulder. Namjoon walks over and sits onto the bed as well, pulling the boy into his arms. He runs his fingers through the boy's hair. Hyunjin continues to cry, not knowing what to do other than that. "It's okay, we're here. We'll protect you," Jimin murmurs.

"It's only a dream, Hyunjin. You're here with us," Namjoon whispers, "You're safe." The kid continues to cry, but the words of the two who took him in comforted him. He felt safe in between the two. He felt calm within their arms. They were his shields and his guardians. They would protect him. They would make sure he is okay. He trusts them. Nothing can hurt him when he's with Namjoon and Jimin.

◇─◇──◇────◇────◇────◇────◇────◇─────◇──◇─◇

Although there was bad, there was good. The family game nights and the late night ice cream runs. And, of course, the birthday celebrations. Hyunjin had no idea when his birthday was, but Namjoon and Jimin were set on throwing him a party. They decided that there was no better day than the day they met. The day they found Hyunjin. It's been a year already and the three have gotten closer than ever. Namjoon and Jimin had racked their minds for the best present for weeks. In the end, it seemed rather obvious what to get the boy. They could only hope that he liked it. "Happy birthday to you," Jimin sings as he brings out a cake. Hyunjin's eyes light up as he sees the cake being lowered in front of him. The other guests sing as well, all from the gang or workers in the Park-Kim household. "Happy birthday to you!" Everyone sings before clapping their hands. Hyunjin beams at them before blowing out the candles. The guests all cheer as Namjoon approaches with a knife. He starts slicing the cake and places the first piece in front of the boy. Hyunjin grins and grabs his fork, shoving the sweet treat into his mouth. Jimin and Namjoon watch with wide grins, happy to see the boy so overjoyed. Later that night, after everyone left, the three gathered in the living room. Hyunjin had just finished opening all of his gifts and was sorting them out. "You know, Jinnie, you forgot about our present," Namjoon says, holding up a folder. Hyunjin takes it and opens it up. Namjoon and Jimin watch as he slips the paper out, their hearts beating nervously. Jimin squeezes Namjoon's hand in a death grip as Hyunjin reads the paper. The young boy's eyes widen as he reads and he glances to the couple that took him in. "A-are you serious?" Hyunjin asks.

Jimin nods, "We want to adopt you. You're already like a son to us. We want to make it official."

"If that's what you want..." Namjoon starts.

Hyunjin nods and looks at his now fathers with a smile, "Yes! Yes! I want it. I want to be able to call you my dads! I can call you my dads....right?"

"Yes, Hyunjinnie," Jimin says, "You call us your dads."

◇─◇──◇────◇────◇────◇────◇────◇─────◇──◇─◇

Each moment brought them closer as a family, whether it be through bonding or other fond memories. "Come on," Yoongi states, "Come at me, Hyunjin. Show me what you got." As Hyunjin spent more time with his parents, he was bound to be brought into the world of the gang. Although both Jimin and Namjoon were completely against the idea, they knew that Hyunjin should at least learn to defend himself. Hyunjin had made it his own goal to do so well that he could convince his parents to let him join the gang. It was hard though. No matter how well he did, his parents had made up their minds. But, Hyunjin, was nothing if not persistent. He kept pushing his parents until they gave him a chance. If he could defeat Yoongi while sparring, he could join the gang. But, if he lost he would put the notion behind him and never bring it up again. Hyunjin took the deal even though he knew it would be no easy task. Min Yoongi was the best fighter in the gang. He taught his dad how to fight, which made him a miracle worker considering how clumsy the man is. Still, Hyunjin was determined to defeat him. "C'mon, kid. You can't be daydreaming like that if you want to be a part of the gang," Yoongi says, approaching the kid. Hyunjin snaps out of his thoughts and blocks as Yoongi throws a punch towards his chest. Hyunjin counters with two kicks of his own, which Yoongi blocks with expertise. Yoongi smirks and charges forward with a variety of attacks. He aims blows at Hyunjin's head and his legs, not letting the boy rest for a minute. He wasn't holding back. Hyunjin dodged each blow with his arms or by sidestepping. He did a backflip in order to put some space in between him and Yoongi, a move taught to him by his appa. Hyunjin grits his teeth and brings his fists up in a fighting position. "Let's go!" Yoongi shouts. Hyunjin nods and charges at Yoongi, delivering blows that Yoongi doesn't even bother blocking. Although Hyunjin is strong, it isn't enough to shake the older, more experienced gangster. Hyunjin huffs as Yoongi grabs his arm and pulls him into a choke hold. The young boy struggles in his grip and Yoongi smirks, eying the boy's parents. Namjoon and Jimin have neutral expressions on their face, watching as the two spar. Hyunjin shakes his head, not ready to give up. He grips onto Yoongi's arm and takes a step closer to the man, throwing him off balance. The boy aims a blow at the man's gut before bending a little. He flips Yoongi over his back and onto the floor. Yoongi lets out a groan as his back comes in contact with the hard floor. He tries to get up, but Hyunjin pins him to the ground. He acts quickly and pinches a pressure on the side of his neck, making Yoongi fall limp. Jungkook whistles and walks over to Yoongi's side. He smirks and nudges Yoongi's arm, "You really went all out, didn't you Hyunjin?"

"He taught me the move," Hyunjin says, a tad bit out of breath. Jimin holds out his hand, which Hyunjin takes, and pulls his son to his feet. "You did well," Jimin says.

Hyunjin's eyes widen, "Does that mean?"

"Yes, you can join the gang," Namjoon says. A smile bursts onto Hyunjin's face and he jumps a little in joy. Jimin laughs at his actions and proceeds to ruffle his hair. Namjoon bends down beside his friend and presses another pressure point to snap Yoongi out of his stupor. The man sits up in an instant and gives Hyunjin a look that could kill. "That was dirty, kid," Yoongi huffs, "You could have just pinned me."

"You always told me to not hesitate. It's better to go all out rather than let your enemy get the chance to attack you again," Hyunjin says with innocent eyes.

"Yes, but we were sparring," Yoongi states. Namjoon chuckles and pats his friend on the shoulder. "Don't be like that Yoongi. My son kicked your ass. Accept it and move on," Namjoon smirks. Yoongi scowls and slaps Namjoon's hand off his shoulder. Jimin and Jungkook laugh as well. Yoongi glares at each of them, but eventually joins in on the laughter. Hyunjin smiles, feeling happier now than he has ever before.

◇─◇──◇────◇────◇────◇────◇────◇─────◇──◇─◇

Or through tragedy and fear. Hyunjin whimpers as he hears voices from outside. He can't see, his captor tied something right over his eyes before he left the room. Hyunjin has been captured for the past couple weeks. It was his own fault. He had decided to take a shortcut home. He had no idea that it gave his captors the perfect opportunity to grab the Park-Kim's only son. He tried to fight back, but he was overpowered. They hauled him to some crappy old garage where they tortured him day and night. It was exhausting and Hyunjin was about to give up multiple times. The only thing that kept him going was the hope that his parents would come and save him. The gang would give them hell. He was sure of that. His hope did waver every so often, but he knew that they would never leave him behind. The experience was honestly traumatizing, Hyunjin always prided himself in being strong, but these men found a way to make him crack. In the end, he's still a child. Not even a teenager yet. They hit him where it hurt. They littered his skin with cuts until he could no longer recognize his own body. What made it worse was that they would stop before he passed out, administering the right amount of pain to make him suffer more than anything else. They would make him scream and cry, but never went far enough to let him black out for even a second. He wished for it at times. Blacking out would mean that he wouldn't have to feel the pain, but they never let him. Suddenly, the sounds of groans and fighting can echo throughout the area. Hyunjin tenses, wondering what could be going on outside. Is it his parents? He wishes it is. He doesn't want to get his hopes up though because what if it isn't. He'll just have to suffer more. Tears drip at a steady pace from Hyunjin's face and he keeps his mouth in a firm line. He waits for whoever it is to come to his room. "Hyunjin!" Jimin shouts as he swings the door open with a loud bang.

A-appa?" Hyunjin stutters, hoping that he wasn't just imagining the other's voice.

"My poor baby!" Jimin cries, rushing forward and ripping the blindfold from around Hyunjin's eyes. The young boy's eyes are blurry from the tears but he can make out his father's face. "Appa," Hyunjin says, "Y-you came..."

"Of course I did," Jimin says, "I'm so sorry it took so long."

"It's okay," Hyunjin says, tears running down his face even faster, "You're here now." Namjoon bursts into the room a second later and he falls to his knees as he sees his son. "Oh, thank god," Namjoon mutters, "I was so afraid I lost you..."

"D-dad," Hyunjin chokes out.

"I'm here. I'm here, my prince," Namjoon says, getting back to his feet and untying the binds on his son. Jimin wraps his arms around Hyunjin and gently squeezes him, "We'll take care of you. Let's go home, okay?" Hyunjin nods and lets his parents pick him up and carry him out of this hellhole.

◇─◇──◇────◇────◇────◇────◇────◇─────◇──◇─◇

Either way, they became a family. Hyunjin's face scrunches up in confusion as he adjusts his tie. Namjoon chuckles and walks over to the boy. He pushes his son's hands down and fixes the tie himself. "Thanks, dad," Hyunjin murmurs.

"You're welcome," Namjoon says, ruffling his hair.

Jimin sighs as he watches the two, "Now he looks like he just woke up." Hyunjin grins at the man and fixes his hair so that not a strand is out of place. "Better?" Hyunjin asks.

Jimin nods and pats Hyunjin on the shoulder, "Are you sure that you want to do this?"

"I'm sure. I'm already a part of your secret life. I want to be a part of your famous, crazy one too," Hyunjin says.

Jimin smiles and grabs Namjoon's arm, "Alright, then. Let's go. The car is out front. The family make their way down the hallway and out of the house to a nice, sleek, black car. They pile inside and head onto the road, their destination being a party to celebrate the success of the recent debut of a new boy group. It is a special day for more than just that reason. It's the first day that Hyunjin will be introduced to the media. It will be the first time their son will be introduced to this world. Namjoon and Jimin are well known for their music company and successful performers. They were followed by all tabloids and it's a miracle that no one has found out about the secret life they lead. Nonetheless, they hid little else from the paparazzi. They found out about Hyunjin pretty quickly. Hyunjin wasn't bothered, understanding that his parents were well known. He was bound to gain attraction as well due to this fact. Namjoon and Jimin were worried that their child would be too overwhelmed and told the media that their son wasn't ready yet for the limelight. Hyunjin was thankful for that, because in all honesty he was not ready. But, now he is. He can take whatever the media throws at him. He doesn't care. He was proud to be his parents' son. He wants to show the world that. As the car approaches the red carpet, the sounds of reporters and camera clicks can be heard. The flashing glints off the windows and Hyunjin's eyes widen in a mix of curiosity and shock. His stomach is churning, but he does his best to push it down. "Are you ready?" Namjoon asks. Hyunjin nods his head and flashes his parents a determined look. With that, Namjoon gestures for their chauffeur to get out of the car. The man exits the vehicle and opens the back door for the family of three. Namjoon exits first, dimples present on his face. Jimin next with his bright smile and sunny disposition. And last, Hyunjin. He smiles as well as reporters turn to him and shout his name. He looks up to his parents, who both have proud expressions on their faces. Namjoon and Jimin stand by his sides, placing their hands on their son's shoulders. The family walks forward, making their way to the red carpet. "Namjoon! Jimin! Tell me, who is this?" A reporter shouts as they step onto the carpet. The family poses for pictures as they get bombarded with more and more questions. "Is this possibly your son?" Another reporter exclaims.

"We haven't seen him in ages. Why now? Is there a reason for this boy's appearance tonight?" Someone yells out. Namjoon and Jimin exchange a look before glancing down at Hyunjin, who gives his parents a small nod. "This is our son, Hyunjin. Park-Kim Hyunjin," Jimin says with a wide smile, "We are both very proud to formally introduce you all to him tonight." Hyunjin waves at the cameras as they snap photo after photo. Although it's a lot, Hyunjin doesn't feel as overwhelmed as he thought he would. Maybe it's the fact that he has his parents by his side. His strength. His family.

◇─◇──◇────◇────◇────◇────◇────◇─────◇──◇─◇

"Take a look at this," A man with longish hair says, placing a phone in front of another man. The screen shows the red carpet event for a new boy group, but on the screen are the entertainment company owners and their son. The man stares at the phone with narrowed eyes and looks up to his companion, "He looks like her."

"I know," The man answers.

"Do you think?" The other questions.

The man shrugs, "He did go missing that night."

"That means he has the ring," The other states.

"If that's him, then he should" The man says.

"Have our guys scope it out. But, tell them to be careful. Even if it's the Hwang's kid. Right now, he's Jimin and Namjoon's child," The man says before handing the phone back. The other nods his head, takes back the device and dials a number.
