Chapter 11
This chapter is light-hearted and fun. It's like a first date, but not cause Hyunjin definitely doesn't like Jisung. It's not like this is a Hyunsung story after all. Anyway, school has started back up for me and I have a lot of chapters of this story pre-written, so I should be able to update fairly often. My schedule will be all over the place though cause life is nuts at the moment. That aside, let's get into the chapter.
Hyunjin looks around, trying to spot the familiar blue-hair amongst the crowd of people in the mall. Jisung had texted him about where to meet up last night. The boy hadn't said much after that. Hyunjin has always been fairly curious and he could only wonder what the boy is planning. His parents had insisted on being the ones to drop him off. They wanted to see their son off on his first date, which Hyunjin insisted a billion times it is not, but they didn't listen. Hyunjin may have gotten really flustered by what Jisung had done, but that doesn't make today a date. They're just hanging out. Jisung is just trying to get Hyunjin to trust him, nothing more. And Hyunjin is fine with that. He still finds the boy annoying, even though he does have his moments. Hyunjin sighs as he scans the crowd again for the boy. "Hey!" A voice calls out and Hyunjin turns. His eyes widen as he sees Jisung with tawny, brown hair. He walks over to the boy, who has a bright smile on his face. "What are you smiling for?" Hyunjin asks, "You look dopey." Jisung sticks his tongue out at the boy and gestures for them to walk. They move side by side, passing by stores and other shoppers. Hyunjin eyes Jisung's hair as they walk, "You dyed your hair."
Jisung nods, "Yeah, wanted to change it up."
"Hm, I liked your blue hair better," Hyunjin murmurs.
Jisung grins, "You liked my hair?"
"Shut up, don't get a big head about it," Hyunjin huffs. Jisung laughs and Hyunjin pushes him, embarrassed. "Here," Hyunjin states, holding out a neatly folded handkerchief to Jisung, "I cleaned it just like you said." Jisung takes it and holds it up to his nose. He breathes in and lets out a sigh, "Smells like rich people."
"Gross," Hyunjin comments, "You're so weird." Jisung smiles and slips the handkerchief into his pocket. "What are we doing here anyway?" Hyunjin asks.
"Shopping, duh, what else do you do in a place like this?" Jisung says.
"Why?" Hyunjin questions.
"Today, I plan on getting you to trust me. To see that I'm not like all those other guys," Jisung answers, "And maybe, you and I could be friends." Hyunjin contemplates his words, wondering if he really means it. The boy has never had a genuine friend before, could Jisung be the first? Does he want him to be the first? Jisung is annoying, loud, brash, rude, and...irrevocably caring. Maybe, he wouldn't be a horrific friend. "Okay," Hyunjin says, "Question, do friends have to like each other?"
"Usually," Jisung states, "But, I'm sure we could be friends that just tolerate each other." Hyunjin giggles and Jisung laughs as well. It really isn't that funny, but the two find it hilarious. People stare at them, wondering why these two boys are laughing their heads off. The two eventually calm down after a couple of minutes. "My chest hurts," Hyunjin says, in between breaths.
"That's what happens when you laugh too much, princess," Jisung smiles.
Hyunjin groans, "Is that nickname ever gonna go away?"
"Nope! Since we're friends, I'll just use get to it more often," Jisung says. Hyunjin groans and Jisung snickers. "C'mon, I want to go into this store," Jisung says, dragging Hyunjin. The boy follows as they enter a store filled with a large variety of clothes. "Hello, mister," Jisung says to a mannequin outfitted in a black puffer jacket.
Hyunjin scoffs, "You're so weird."
"Hey, be nice," Jisung tuts. Hyunjin rolls his eyes as Jisung walks down the aisle and grabs a sweatshirt. "What do you think?" Jisung asks.
"Eh, kinda boring," Hyunjin says, looking Jisung up and down.
Jisung scrunches up his nose and places it back on the shelf, "You're boring."
"I have great fashion sense, believe it or not," Hyunjin states, pushing through the other shirts on the shelf. Jisung hums and walks over to check out the shoes. "Here's an idea," Jisung says, "Let me create an outfit for you and you do the same for me."
"Do I want to see what horrendous outfit you'll make for me?" Hyunjin questions.
Jisung rolls his eyes, "Hey, don't judge before you even see what I give you."
"I can already assume based off of your outfit," Hyunjin states.
Jisung glares at the boy, "If you don't want to do it, that's fine."
"I never said that," Hyunjin says, "Let's make it a bit fun though. The better outfit pays for ice cream."
"Hm, I'm always up for a competition," Jisung says with a wide smile, "Who will judge?"
"My uncle," Hyunjin answers, "He's big on fashion."
Jisung shakes his head, "That's not fair! He'll be impartial to you."
"He isn't like that. He'll choose whoever has a better outfit," Hyunjin states, "You'll lose cause your outfit will be tacky and boring, not cause he's my uncle."
Jisung's eyes narrow, "Fine, you're on."
◇─◇──◇────◇────◇────◇────◇────◇─────◇──◇─◇
"It's really not fair!" Jisung exclaims. Hyunjin hums and smiles as he licks his ice cream. "I mean you looked really good in the outfit I prepared for you!" Jisung exclaims, "Yet, your uncle liked yours better! He was playing favorites! I knew he would!"
"To be honest, I look good in everything," Hyunjin says. Jisung scowls and continues to rant about how he lost. Hyunjin listens, enjoying his ice cream as the two walk out of the mall. "Don't be bitter, Han Jisung," Hyunjin says.
Jisung frowns, "I'm not being bitter! I should've won."
"My uncle thinks differently," Hyunjin says, "Just admit it. I have better style than you."
"Bleh, your head's big enough, princess," Jisung says, "You may do better in that department, but I will kick your ass at skee ball."
"Skee ball?" Hyunjin questions.
Jisung nods, "Let's go to an arcade for a bit before grabbing something to eat. There's one not too far from here,"
"Are we gonna call a cab?" Hyunjin asks.
Jisung shakes his head, "I'll drive us."
"You drive?" Hyunjin questions. Jisung nods and comes to a stop in front of a black motorcycle. Hyunjin's eyes widen and he looks at Jisung, "You've got to be kidding me."
Jisung shakes his head, "Come on. I have an extra helmet. Let's go."
"Do you know how to drive this thing?" Hyunjin asks.
"Of course," Jisung says, "Come on princess. Jump on my steed."
"You really are taking this whole knight thing too far," Hyunjin comments, "Are you sure you can drive this thing?"
"Don't worry," Jisung says, "You can trust me." Hyunjin sighs and holds his hand out. Jisung smiles and passes him the helmet. Hyunjin slips it onto his head while Jisung does the same with his own. Jisung swings his leg over his bike and gestures for Hyunjin to sit down as well. Hyunjin hesitates for a second before taking a deep breath and swinging his leg over. "Hold on," Jisung says. Hyunjin nods, having ridden with his parents on their bikes before. He wraps his arms around Jisung's waist. "Go, before I decide I don't want to be on a vehicle that you steer," Hyunjin says.
"Don't be so dramatic," Jisung says, "I am a great driver." Hyunjin nods, hoping that what the other says is true. Jisung smiles and starts up his bike, before pulling out of the space and down the road. They arrive quickly in front of an arcade with flashing lights that can be seen through the window. They park close by and Hyunjin gets off the vehicle first. He slips the helmet off and passes it to Jisung, who takes off his own. "See, I wasn't bad," Jisung says.
Hyunjin shrugs, "You were okay."
"Hey, we didn't crash, did we?" Jisung questions.
"I call it luck," Hyunjin replies. Jisung scoffs and places the helmets onto his bike. "You talk too much," Jisung says, "Let's see if you're still talking after I kick your ass at skee ball." Hyunjin rolls his eyes as the two walk towards the arcade. "What's with you and skee ball? Is that the only game you can play?" Hyunjin asks.
Jisung laughs, "As if, I dominate in all games. Pick one and you'll see. Your breath will be taken away by my skills."
"How can you call me self-centered?" Hyunjin asks, "You never stop talking about yourself." The two enter the arcade and go to buy some coins for them to play games. They split the coins evenly between them before making their way over to the skee ball machine. "Whoever has the most points wins," Jisung says. Hyunjin nods and sticks the coins into the slot before pressing the flashing blue button. The two continue to compete in various arcade games from basketball to some weird one where they have to hit drums. In the end, Jisung did better than Hyunjin, winning most of the games. Hyunjin wasn't really bothered by it. He actually liked playing the games more than he cared about winning. The two have a significant amount of coins left so they walk around, trying to find some game they can use it up on. They pass by the claw machines and Hyunjin's eye catches on one filled with cute stuffed dogs. Hyunjin walks over to it and peers through the glass at the fluffy animals. He smiles and Jisung walks over to stand beside him. "Want me to win you one?" Jisung asks.
Hyunjin's eyes widen and he looks to Jisung, "Can you?"
"I'm great at these things," Jisung says, moving to stand in front of the lever. Hyunjin grins, happy that he would be winning a stuffed animal to take home with him. The boy's happiness diminishes as Jisung doesn't win the first time or the next or the next. Hyunjin whines, "I thought you said you were good at this..."
"Shut up," Jisung states as he positions the claw, "I'm doing this for you." He presses the button and the claw drops. It grips onto the dog's head and slowly lifts up. It moves towards the hole and Hyunjin's heart leaps into his throat. Would this be the one? Just as it's about to reach the hole, the dog slips from the claw's grasp and back into the pile of its siblings. Hyunjin's heart falls in disappointment and his head droops a little. Jisung grumbles under his breath and reaches into his pocket for more coins. He groans when he realizes that he has no more left. "You didn't get me my puppy," Hyunjin says, "And you wasted the rest of our coins. What a waste of money..."
"I tried, okay!" Jisung exclaims, "You were the one who told me to keep trying, so don't complain about the coins. Not to mention, you're rich! Why do you need to worry about money?"
"That's not the point," Hyunjin huffs. Jisung shakes his head while Hyunjin pouts. Jisung looks up at him and sighs at his expression. "Are you really that upset?" Jisung asks, "It's just a stuffed animal."
"They're cute," Hyunjin says, staring at the dogs in the machine with a forlorn look.
Jisung sighs, "You're something else, princess. Real ones are cuter. There's a dog cafe across the street. Why don't we eat there and you can play with real dogs?"
"Really?" Hyunjin asks, his eyes glittering with glee. Jisung nods and Hyunjin grins. He rushes towards the door and Jisung shakes his head, following the boy.
◇─◇──◇────◇────◇────◇────◇────◇─────◇──◇─◇
"You're so cute!" Hyunjin squeals as he pets one of the dogs who nudges at his foot. Jisung watches as he sips his iced tea. The second they walked into the cafe Hyunjin started gushing over the dogs. His entire focus was on the furry animals. Jisung could only watch as Hyunjin greeted dog after dog. Jisung shakes his head as Hyunjin gently pats a small puppy on his lap with his finger. Hyunjin had already chosen his favorite dog in the cafe. It's a little puppy named Kkami and Hyunjin would not let go of him. The little dog has been sitting on Hyunjin's lap the entire time they've been here. "You've been more focused on these dogs than your meal," Jisung says.
Hyunjin hums, his eyes not moving from Kkami, "Can you blame me? These cuties are attention-grabbers..."
Jisung shakes his head, "Are you going to eat?" Hyunjin doesn't answer him and Jisung sighs. He picks up his fork and uses it to pick up a fry. He holds it up to Hyunjin, "Eat."
Hyunjin's eyes dart up and he looks to the fry, "What are you doing?"
"Feeding you cause you're clearly not gonna eat," Jisung says, "C'mon princess. Open up." Hyunjin's nose scrunches at the nickname, but he opens his mouth. Jisung sticks the fry into his mouth and Hyunjin bites down. Hyunjin pulls back and Jisung places his fork down. Hyunjin hums as he chews and pets Kkami again. "I wish I could take you home with me," Hyunjin murmurs as he strokes the puppy's ears.
"Why don't you adopt him?" Jisung asks, "All the dogs here are up for adoption."
Hyunjin shakes his head, "I don't think my parents would let me."
"Are you kidding me? Why?" Jisung asks.
Hyunjin sighs, "Just cause Kijoon says I'm a brat who gets whatever I want, doesn't mean I actually do."
"Still, I'm sure your parents wouldn't mind," Jisung says.
Hyunjin pouts, "By the time I convince them, this little guy will already have been adopted...I mean who could resist his adorable face." Jisung rolls his eyes and watches as Hyunjin continues to pet the puppy. Suddenly, a ringtone starts to go off and Hyunjin glances down to see his phone going off. "Ah, it's my appa," Hyunjin says. He glances to the side wall and his eyes widen at the time. "It's getting late. I should probably tell him to pick me up," Hyunjin says. Jisung nods his head and Hyunjin grabs his phone, answering the call. He uses his other hand to pick up Kkami and place him on the floor. He stands up and heads outside. Jisung watches him for a couple of seconds before raising his hand. A waitress walks over to him with a bright smile, "Yes?"
"This puppy, is it possible for me to adopt him?" Jisung asks, glancing down at Kkami.
The waitress nods, "Of course! Let me get you some paperwork to fill out and I'll bring my boss so you can speak to him more about how the process will go." Jisung nods and flashes the lady a thankful look. He turns to look at Hyunjin, who is still talking to his appa. His face is flushed pink and his expression is one of embarrassment. Jisung smiles, wondering what the boy's appa could be saying to him. He looks back down at Kkami and sighs. "Why am I adopting you?" Jisung asks. He bends down to pet the puppy before tilting his head to look at Hyunjin again. He stares at the boy and shakes his head. Maybe, it's because he feels bad for Hyunjin and wants him to experience some joy before things progress. Jisung watches as a smile spreads across Hyunjin's face. Jisung's face flickers with regret, but it quickly goes away. He's just doing what he has to do, but he can't help but feel bad for the boy. Hyunjin doesn't have an easy life. And he knows that it'll only get worse for him.
Aww, Jisung's got a bit of a soft spot for Hyunjin. I mean who doesn't. I loved SKZ comeback by the way. Did you? These boys impressed me yet again with their amazing skills. Enough of my fangirling, I hope that you enjoyed this chapter.
