Prologue
In the white expanse the demon stood, looming over the corpse of the small creature. Its head had rolled off to the side, a trail of crimson in its wake. Dull pupils stared at him, no life hidden behind. The body's large tentacles were splayed out limply, giant compared to the dead creature's tiny form.
His scythe disappeared as he let go of it, returning to the shadows it was made from. His tail lashed in relieving agitation.
"Finally," he growled, "He was annoying."
As if on cue, a few figures appeared in the void a few feet from him. Five humanoids, each with their heads floating and resembling planets. The middle one was the tallest, rings surrounding his celestial head. Two moons orbited him, each staring at the place they had appeared in.
He grumbled, annoyed. He turned around, black and red eyes glaring at the newcomers. This wasn't the first time this happened. First that fox thing, who no doubt was still around the void somewhere. Then Syolik, some rainbow creature that originated from a blob. Dreachni, the small one he had just killed, was lying dead on the floor. And now these guys.
"Alright, now who are you guys?" He growled, baring sharp teeth threateningly as his wings flared in defense.
The tall one turned to him, as did his moons. He smiled, friendly. "Oh, hello! I am Aris-B. And who are you? You don't look like anyone I know,"
The demon huffed. "Well, you don't look like anyone I know, either." His mistrustful gaze didn't leave the planet-humanoid, observing him and his companions thoroughly.
The smallest of the five, one whose head seemed to resemble lava, ran forwards, full of excitement and curiosity. In his enthusiasm, his tail gets in the way of his path, and he trips onto the floor.
Aris-B quickly helps him up. "Be careful, Velcan." He looked up at the demon with an apologetic gaze. "Sorry about him. He's a bit of a roughhouse." Aris-B tilted his head. "I don't believe I got your name, though?"
"Indeed you didn't," the demon confirmed, "Because I've had a hell of a day and my trusting of new people is very quickly decreasing."
The lava one, apparently named Velcan, called out to his companions. "Pang! Aster! Check this thing out!"
To verify his statement, he pointed at the demon's tail, swishing side to side. The two mentioned planet-children, Pangea and Asterius, ran forwards from where they stood with Aris-B. The trio stared in wonder at the demon's tail, as if it was a wondrous thing they'd never experienced before. The demon, in response, gave them an annoyed glare, his tail twirling with a flick as if responding to Velcan's statement.
Velcan's mouth opened wide with awe. "IT MOVED!" he pointed out ecstatically.
"HOLY QUASAR!" Pangea added.
Asterius looked at the demon tail, following it until he met the demon's still agitated gaze. "I think it belongs to Mr... Demon."
With that simple statement, he turned and walked back to Aris-B, while Pangea and Velcan continued to admire the demon's tail. The fifth planet, Phobos, had been standing back with Aris-B, hiding in fear of the grey demon.
As he should be.
His patience spent, the demon summoned a long scythe with a blood red blade, the sharp edge inches from the children's throats. He growled, "Back off, little ones. We wouldn't want an... accident, now, would we?"
The demon grew a malicious grin as the children shrieked in terror, panicking and running back to Aris-B. As Aris-B comforted the frightened planets, Aris-A and Aris-C, Aris-B's two small moons, stared at the demon.
"That's what I thought," the demon grinned with pleasure.
Asterius, who had been watching the situation with interest, stepped forwards. His eyes became stars when he saw the demon's scythe, and he stared in wonder at the weapon. "That's a very unique weapon. Powerful, long-ranged for a melee armament. Definitely one of my favorites."
Optimistic, he gave the demon a double thumbs-up.
The demon tilted his head, slightly surprised by the child's apparent maturity. "...Thank you?"
Asterius smiled. "You're welcome... Vizor."
The demon, Vizor, gave Asterius a suspicious glare. "I do believe I'm not mistaken when I claim that... I never gave you my name?"
Asterius didn't reply, only smiled and stared at Vizor like an innocent little bean. Vizor returned his smile with a glare.
Asterius only replied, "Huh...? Why are you glaring?"
Suddenly, Aris-B and the planetary adolescents disappeared. All except Asterius, still gazing at Vizor with a smile.
Vizor, however, snarled at the realization of the planets' absences. "OKAY, WHAT THE ZAIT IS HAPPENING?!"
His scythe appeared once again, which he then held tightly. His claws dug into the smooth wooden grip. "Are you doing this somehow, you little..." Vizor looked the child up and down. "...planet thing?" he finished.
Asterius looked at him, genuinely confused at Vizor's anger. "Oh, my tongue must have slipped. I said Mister." He once again smiled innocently. "Silly me!"
Vizor growled, wishing he had something to kill besides the child to let out his frustration.
Athos, Asterius's small moon that orbited his planetary head, suddenly awoke, looking around the white void in alarm. "Where am I?!" the moon exclaimed, not having been awake for the sudden transportation that brought the planets' arrival.
Vizor glared at the moon before growling to himself. "Why am I questioning it at this point?"
Asterius continued to stare at the demon as Vizor observed the surroundings. "You... are actually quite nice! If a little grumpy. But nobody's perfect!"
"You're not the judge of that, kid," Vizor snapped. He then resumed to look around. He appeared to be searching for someone or something. It could easily be assumed: he was trying to find some way to escape this void.
But the planet child continued, despite Vizor's annoyed replies. "Well, I think you're quite a neat guy! Maybe together, we can achieve something?"
Suddenly, everything about the child, from his posture to how he spoke, seemed to change, becoming more mature than it previously was. Like he had aged a few years in the few second-fractions he stood there. "Something... we both benefit from?"
Vizor gave the planet another glare. "You're suggesting that I befriend a child to achieve whatever you're suggesting?" A dry chuckle escaped his throat, one of amusement. "Yeah. Not gonna happen. Plus-" He gripped his scythe tighter still, "-I don't entirely trust you."
Asterius gave no appearance of fear at the demon's act of slight aggression. "I am a child in this universe due to plot. Where I am from, I am an entire planet. I know things that could help you. Maybe space travel. Something like changing tides manually. Who knows?"
Vizor simply scoffed at Asterius's attempts. "I know about space travel, thanks. I had to get to Earth somehow in my own universe. And I have no interest in tides."
Nodding in simple acknowledgement, Asterius continued. "There is one thing you haven't thought of." He paused for a moment in thought before shaking his head. "Scratch that, two. Black Hole Power Spheres and Planetary Movement. Quite astounding tech that could help with war. Or anything, really."
The demon was about to say something in objection, but paused, seeming to think over what Asterius had said. He looked back down at the child, his grip on his weapon loosening slightly. "Continue."
Asterius heeded Vizor's statement. "Well. There's also this one thing I've only heard tales of. These... things. They look like asteroids, but they have these weird tendrils. They seem to feed on life. They could be able to be tamed somehow, maybe even weaponised. Though I doubt they exist. Anyway, the Black Hole Power Sphere could power an entire empire as long as it's maintained and fed sacrifices to keep its mass. Which can be helped by Planetary Movers. Moving an entire system's worth of planets could keep it running for 10-15 years." Asterius shrugged. "So yeah. That's about all the stuff I know that isn't base level."
Vizor knelt down to the child's level, his scythe finally dissipating as he tilted his head in wonder. "Interesting..."
"Would you like me to explain anything further, sir?" Asterius queried.
Vizor nodded, "Yes, continue. I'm piqued."
Some kind of chalkboard suddenly appeared behind Asterius. The planet walked to the chalkboard, picking up the small chunk of white, dusty chalk in his hands. His gaze landed back on Vizor, who was looking at the chalkboard in confusion. He was both wondering how the child had made it appear seemingly out of nowhere, and questioning as to what it was, seeing that he had technically never seen one before.
"About the space monsters, Black Hole Power Spheres, or Planetary Movers, sir?" Asterius asked, tossing the chalk in his hands.
There was a moment of silence as Vizor looked at the chalkboard, observing it closely, as if there was some code written somewhere that was hard to see.
After his thoughts passed, he grinned.
"All of it."
