Don't Go Inside
I pass the house everyday on my way to my part time job. It's disturbing, yet it's fascinating aura always catches my attention, but I never stare at its crumbling walls for more than a glance. The rumors of the locals keeping me far away from its door. They whisper: "the living don't belong in there." Some even say: "no one comes out of there...not even their bodies." However, today is different. When I pass the house, I keep my eyes on the window by the door. Staring back at me, is my little brother. He presses his pudgy face against the glass as he waves excitedly at me. I can't share in his happiness. I only feel dread. How did he get in there? I thought he was with mom. I have to get him out. As I think that, I take a step towards the house, but stop. My body refuses to move. What if its a trick? I quickly shake off the thought. No! Its not a trick. He's in there and I have to save him! Without anymore hesitation, I run into the house. Throwing open the door, I look at the window only to see he's not there. Its as if he was never there...but before I can take a step to leave, I hear the door close.
