Chapter 27

I looked around and narrowed my eyes while I grew tense when I didn't see anyone except for Korra and Samuel. "Who are you?" I asked and bared my teeth, taking a threatening step toward the voice. "And where are you?"

Samuel looked at me with a small worried look on his face before he bowed, hiding his face. He didn't say a word, and I had a feeling that he wanted me to bow too, but I wasn't going to; I'd be damned if they caught me bowing.

I narrowed my eyes further and bit back a small growl when the person didn't say a word nor showed themself. I stayed silent and stayed tense while I looked around, hoping that whoever was there would appear soon and tell me what the hell was going on and who they were.

"Hmph," the person said, and there was a small smirk in their voice. "I wouldn't be acting like that if I were you," he said, amused, and there was a slight warning in his tone.

I narrowed my eyes and scowled but didn't say a word. My heart beated steadily in my chest while I looked around, trying to come up with a way to see where this new person was and how to protect myself, Samuel, and Korra from this unknown threat.

The person chuckled and appeared from the shadows. He dipped his head before he looked at me, his eyes white and holding this kind of power to them that had the hair on the back of my neck standing at attention. "I won't hurt them, Shandhi," he said, his voice hard yet soft and filled with the same amount of power that he had in his eyes. "They work for me."

I raised an eyebrow and shifted a little on my feet. "And you are?" I asked, not caring that I was talking back to this person. I knew that he wasn't able to harm me nor kill me for whatever reason, and I knew that I was working on borrowed time, but I didn't care; I wanted him to know that I wasn't afraid of him.

"The Master," Samuel whispered with a small hiss in his voice. He kept his head bowed, and I could tell that he was trying to signal for me to do what he says. "Bow, Jaz. Show some respect to him because he could, and will, kill you."

I bit back a scoffed laugh and rolled my eyes because I knew that wasn't true.

This man wouldn't be able to kill me, no matter what he thinks.

"He can't," I said while I looked at Samuel before I looked at the male before us, giving him a pointed look, "and he knows that he can't."

The older male smirked and cocked his head while he studied me, amused. He made no move towards me, and I had a feeling that we both knew he wouldn't be able to land a hand on me unless he wanted to get into trouble with someone else, someone more powerful than him. "Are you sure?" he asked and raised an eyebrow before I nodded in confirmation.

"Yes," I replied and nodded, and he gestured for me to continue. I cleared my throat and stood taller while I looked at him. "You can't kill me because you know that if you do, then something bad will happen."

He raised an eyebrow. "And that will be..?" he asked with an inquiring tone in his voice while he raised his eyebrow higher.

I shrugged and bit back a small grimace while I folded my arms across my chest. "Innocent lives being killed is an option," I replied. "Darkness, death, disease, and destruction also come to mind, but I am sure that you know more about that than what I do."

The older male grinned and dipped his head, amused, and his whole body grew relaxed while I eyed him suspiciously and grew tenser. "You are a strong one, Young Alpha," he said with praise, and I raised an eyebrow in question. "I am glad that they were correct about that and how you could "potentially" react to me."

"And what is that supposed to mean?" I asked and narrowed my eyes and scowled. "And are you going to tell me who you are now?" I raised an eyebrow while I stared at him, studying him.

"Hmph." The old man nodded before he bowed and broke eye contact first. "I am called Tryon," he said and stood and looked at me with a soft smile on his face. "It's nice to make your acquaintance, Shandhi."

"Jaz," I replied, coldly, "but I am sure that you already knew that."

Tryon nodded in confirmation. "I do," he said. He looked at Korra and Samuel. "Stand," he said and gestured for them to stand before he looked at me again. "So, what questions do you have for me?" he asked and raised an eyebrow, and I narrowed my eyes suspiciously.

"Will you be able to answer them, or am I to be left in the dark with this?" I asked, and Tryon smiled sadly and dipped his head as if he knew the reason why I was not keen on asking them.

"I will be able to answer a few of them," he replied, and I could tell that he was being honest. "However, there are a few things that I will not be able to discuss."

I pointed at Samuel. "Why is he acting like he is a nerd and not a fighter that he "claims" to be?" I asked, my voice quivering a little with anger. "I am sure you know what happened?"

Samuel flinched and moved a little away from me when he stood. He didn't say a word, but I could tell that he was feeling guilty about what had happened to both my mate and Malena.

Tryon glanced at Samuel and scowled before he looked at me. "Yes," he confirmed and nodded. "We have heard what had happened, and he has been punished accordingly."

I nodded and stayed silent while I set my jaw.

"However, he will still be there at base because he is trusted amongst those that work there, and it is too late to find someone else to replace him."

Samuel relaxed slightly behind me, and I had a feeling that he thought that he was going to get replaced. He didn't say a word, but he looked at me, and I had a feeling that he was waiting to see what I had to say.

"Will he be going on the trips?" I asked, glancing at him before I looked at Tryon. I wasn't fond of the idea of him still being there, but I knew better than to question him, especially since Samuel had proven his worth, even if he had made an almost deadly mistake.

"That is up to you," he replied. "It's your safety and the safety of others that you swore to protect that is being questioned."

I slowly nodded before I looked at Samuel and raised an eyebrow. "Was your main job to make sure that I got the sword safely?" I asked.

Samuel rubbed his neck sheepishly, and he knew that I was talking about both trips in which something "bad" had happened. "As safely as we can get you," he said and nodded, "without breaking character, of course."

"Then don't come as your character," I replied, deciding that it'd be best to give him one more shot but as himself and not some stupid nerdy man that didn't know how to take care of himself by himself.

Samuel opened his mouth to say something but stopped as soon as I raised my hand.

"You can turn invisible or something like that, yes?" I raised an eyebrow because I had no idea what he could or couldn't do.

However, if he was supposed to watch after me and wasn't able to do it well while being in character, then there was a chance that he'd be better off as himself and without anyone knowing he was there.

Samuel hesitated but nodded. He furrowed his brows and looked between the two of us before he looked at me, confused. "I can," he confirmed before he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "Why?" he asked.

I pressed my lips into a thin line while I looked between them, not knowing how Tryon would react to it before I took a deep breath and let it out with a small whoosh. "Then, why don't you follow us invisible?" I asked and raised an eyebrow before I shrugged. "Or at least let me be able to see you and whatnot."

"Why?" Tryon asked and raised his hand to keep Samuel from talking. He narrowed his eyes and studied me. "What are you getting at?"

I bit the inside of my bottom lip before I cleared my throat and shifted on my feet to relieve some of the stress I felt. "I am going to need his help here soon," I replied while I looked at Tryon, "not as Samuel the geek but as Sheamus the whatever he is."

Samuel bit back an amused snort and dipped his head when I glanced at him. He didn't say a word while I turned my gaze back to Tryon.

"He's a warlock, but continue," Tryon said.

"I am sure that you don't know what has been set up for me for the rest of the pieces of my sword, correct?" I raised an eyebrow, and Tryon frowned before he looked away, and I could tell that he felt guilty.

"Correct," he confirmed with a nod before he looked at me. He cleared his throat and stood taller. "Unfortunately, we do not know what you are going to have to face."

Slowly, I nodded. "I have a feeling that I will not be able to go on my own and survive," I said. "If I have someone to watch my back, then I can focus on the task at hand. There are some parts where my group hasn't been able to go fully. However..." I trailed off, hoping that Tryon and Samuel would see where I was getting at.

Maybe someone invisible could follow me and help when I needed it the most.

Samuel's eyes grew wide, and I had a feeling he knew where I was leading my question. He looked shocked but didn't say a word while Tryon studied me.

"It could be against the rules," he said and slowly blinked.

"This whole thing is against the rules, isn't it?" I raised an eyebrow in question.

"Are you sure?"

I nodded in confirmation and stayed silent.

Tryon nodded and looked at Samuel. "You are to go with her as yourself, invisible," he said. "Make sure that she doesn't die, or else I will find a way to make her alive again for a few hours so that she can kill you. Is that understood?"

Samuel nodded. "It is," he confirmed and bowed. "I'll make sure she survives on my life."

"Good." He looked at me. "Now, wake up."

My eyes grew wide, and my mouth was opened in shock.

My questions weren't answered, but that didn't stop the wind from blowing around me and whipping my hair back and forth.

"Bu-"

That was all I could get out before...

... my world turned black.
