Chapter 3
Maori Knaiver walked to one of the booths when her baby blue dragon, Rax, chirped. "What is it?" Maori craned her neck before scratching Rax's chin, her eyes laid on a tryout. She walked to the booth while Rax flew to a nearby booth that sold snacks.
The blue baby dragon hovered over María (the Dimension Guardian) after she bought a bag of fish chips. "Rax, get back here!" Maori hollered. The girl with the blue crystal necklace took a bite of the fish chips before feeding some of them to the baby blue dragon. Maori shook her head as she creased the left corner of her mouth.
"Would you like to sign for the tryout?" Adrain asked as he held a pen with his stubby fingers. Her brown curls bounced when she looked at Adrian.
"Yes, where do I sign?"
Not to far behind a teenage girl with a similar bob cut to María came not too far behind as she was wearing an outfit similar to a magician, though her skin was light and her eyes were a golden yellow. Her black cat Jinx had matching eyes as she clung around the back of Maggie's neck. Jinx lifted her head at the scent of fish chips.
Maori finished signing the form as she walked out to pick up Rax.
"Mrrow." Jinx meowed before Maggie signed.
Dirlu, Eimy, Uiwo and Ximo have taken their seats. "When is the tournament going to start?" They overheard Zack say while the two people that were sitting next to him glare at him. "I was just asking, sheesh!"
"If I hear you ask that one more time, we're leaving!" Thomas warned.
"Oh c'mon, Tom! Do you really wanna go back home now?" He looked at Thomas in disbelief, "You really wanna go back home to wear a friggin'n face mask?! Well I'm not goin'! I'm staying here." Zack pouted, his arms crossed before María came back with a bag half full of fish chips.
"I'm gonna go powder my nose." Stacey said as she stood up, her braided black pony tail whipped to the side.
"You gotta be kidding." Thomas gritted his teeth.
"You wish!" Stacey remarked before heading down the stairs.
Then Baci Llus stood from his seat to buy a bag full of peanuts. Micah took her smartphone out of her pocket and texted Stella.
Have you met the other competitors yet?
Micah 10:34 AM
The Amoebian typed before sending the text. Stella receceived a ping from her cellphone and she checked her text messag
e.
No, not yet.
Stella 10:34 AM
Micah read the text that Stella sent and put her smartohone back into the pocket of her lab coat.
After Maggie signed she headed up to the 2nd floor to take her seat. Jinx stared at Mewmi for a brief second before hissing. Mewmi, in her human form shifted into a gijinko for a second to hiss back at the black cat. "Jinx, what's wrong with you?" Maggie scolded her as she took Jinx off her shoulders and carried her. Mewmi reverted back in her human form before she stood in front of the booth and signed her name. Adrian stacked the seven forms that were already signed and put them away leaving a single form.
"You forgot that one." Mewmi pointed out.
"No no no, I just need one more competitor in order to sign." Adrian explianed.
"Can the competitor who already signed up for the tournament can also sign up for the tryout?" Mewmi asked.
"Of course." Adrian replied.
"I know just the guy, I'll be right back." Mewmi walked away from the booth and sprinted her way to the halls, looking for Faim.
Patricia walked past the infirmary, where she left Joon Wen Ji to be taken care of in the hands of Nour Fourti, the Tunisian beauty that has a gentle touch to treat her patients. The Korean wizard was groaning in pain until the head nurse soothed his pain with a sedative. With a clank of her heels, Patricia strutted like a runway model to the hallway as she looked for Hwa Hae Ji.
The Daoitu thief was at the waiting room, next to the wall looking at the arena, spectators of different dimensions packed from the 1st floor, to the 3rd floor. "There are a lot of people out there, Mochi." She said to her sleepy cat, the tabby's eyes were closed as Hwa Hae Ji caressed her brown and creamy fur.
A teenage boy with black bangs came along with an unkempt child with long brown shaggy hair and ragged clothes. "I don't like it here." Felin pouted as she clinged unto Ryan's leg.
"Felin, everything will be fine. Trust me." He hugged her with one arm.
Guess I'm not the only one whose nervous. Hwa Hae Ji thought to herself.
"I trust you Ryan, but I don't trust the other fighters. They could hurt you." Felin admitted. "Especially Patricia, I don't like her."
Hwa Hae Ji stood on edge when she heard that name. "Welcome to the Gladatorium! My name is Patricia..." The blonde pulled a bracelet from her three coloured jacket and slapped it on Hwa Hae Ji's wrist as the bracelet tightened around the Korean thief's wrist like a handcuff as it latched unto her skin like a leech. "...and I will be making sure that no thief comes in to steal within these walls. You will be following my instructions if you want your brother returned safe and sound, unwilling to comply will result in an instant death for your brother. The same fate will also befall on you if your brother attempts to escape. Have a nice day!" She hated that devious smirk of hers, and her ridiculously voluptuous breasts.
"I don't like her either." Hwa Hae Ji said it more to herself before realizing that they heard her. "Oh... my bad."
"I am Ryan. And who might you be?" Ryan said, eyeing the person in front of him.
"Oh, I'm Hwa Hae Ji, but you can call me Haeji." Felin stood close to Ryan, cautious at an unknown human being.
"What division are you in?" The Daoitu thief asked him.
"Magic… Are you participating in the arena as well?" Ryan asked.
"Yes, I'm trying to get money for my brother." Hae Ji responded before Ryan's friend caught her attention. "Wait… what's that behind you?"
"This is a deity." Ryan answered Haeji after looking at Felin.
"Hmm, he's cute!" Haeji commented.
"She." The four feet deity dug her grip into Ryan's shirt.
"Oh sorry!" Meanwhile Mochi looks at Felin in anger.
"She seems scary…" Felin mutters behind Ryan while he patted Felin's head.
"Mochi! What's wrong with you? Go back to sleep ya cat!" Hae Ji admonished at the feline.
"Meh." The tabby meowed.
"Sorry! She's pretty groggy all the time!" Hae Ji apologized on behalf of her cat before the feline fell fast asleep.
"I suppose your cat doesn't like lions", Ryan chuckles. "Felin may look like a human right now, but she was born from a lioness."
The ring from Hae Ji's phone interrupted the conversation. "Oh, sorry, let me get this."
"Go ahead." Ryan obliged just as Haeji walked out of the waiting room and hid behind a wall to answer the call.
"Hwa Hae Ji… Is it your turn to fight?" She asked, her voice syrupy.
"N-no madam!" Hwa Hae Ji stuttered. "Is he ok?" Hae Ji's eyes darted from side to side to check if there were any interlopers nearby.
"Yes… for now." Patricia warned her. "I will meet up with you personally to give you new instructions. Don't worry, your brother is in good hands... as long as you don't cross the line." Patricia hung up.
The hostess locked her office as she headed to the restroom. Stacey dried her hands by the time the hostess arrived. Sora was behind Baci Llus, waiting in line to buy a snack. How was she going to find her friends if she's too famished to concentrate. The blue skinned alien bought a bag of peanuts, popcorn with lemon lime soda and walked out of the line.
Sora stood to order while Katherine was behind the cash register. "I would like a BLT with cheese, peppers, pastrami and honey mustard." The Arivex requested as Jade Knox made the delicious sandwitch, her face glowing like a precious gem.
Stacey returned to her seat, cross legged with arms crossed. "Anyone else?" Thomas interrogated, expecting one of them to leave their seats at any moment.
"Now way! I already told you that I'm not leaving." Zack made it perfectly clear.
"Good." Thomas replied harshly. Baci Llus returned with peanuts, popcorn and lemon lime soda, all for himself.
Scale entered the stadium and was instantly overwhelmed by the the sheer number of people that are there to fight for the honour and riches that they could receive. He looked around to see all the different species from across the world and planets from far off galaxies. There were Deities, there were humans, there was extraterrestrial life and even raptors. Some had the use of magic on their side and others only had their wit, determination and courage. Scale however, had none of these traits, he had never even fought and now his winning depended on the survival of his friends' species.
He decided to meet his opponent so as to put his mind at ease and perhaps if he was lucky, find out any weaknesses.
Meanwhile Blade, Melon and Grim sat in the Gladatorium seat. Melon's head lovingly rested against her boyfriend's chest. She felt his diaphragm move up and down, she turned to him and gently planted a kiss before saying, "It will be okay, no matter the outcome, we will protect the shadow realm." He gived her a glimpse of a smile, before then turning his head over towards his brother.
Grim sits there, maliciously waiting for the tournament to begin. He was adamant that this bet that he beheld was not one that he could lose. Armed with some buttered treat that he stole from a fellow spectator. He sat comfortably and gleefully in one of the Gladatorium chairs.
He turned around and with a wicked smile turns the person behind him and says, "I wish death was allowed in this arena. It would make it so much more, entertaining."
Maggie blinked while her cat Jinx glared at Grim.
"My peanut butter popcorn!" Baci Llus was irate that he got robbed of his snack. Luckily, the Amoebian that sat next to him offered a similar snack.
"Here! I have plenty." Micah gave him a bar made out of trail mix.
"You said that your friend was competing. Who is it?" Baci Llus asked.
"Stella, she's not hard to miss." Micah commented before she took a bite from her granola bar.
The Izarian woman with Magenta hair walked down the hall before she found other competitors from the Melee Division. "Howdy!" She greeted in a southern drawl. Some of the competitors looked at her. "Is this the Melee Division?" Stella asked.
"Yea, yer in the right place." Faim confirmed as he approached her. "My name is Faim." He introduced himself.
"Nice to meet you." Stella responded with a smile on her face. "My name is Stella."
June groaned, there is no way that she got lost with simple instructions, which was stupid by the way. The stadium wasn't that big for crying out loud. 5 stories high my a- Someone bumped into her, interrupting her train of thought. A woman with long blonde hair and a golden yellow jumpsuit bumped into her shouting Faim.
"Watch where you going?!" June yelled, but Mewmi was already gone. What is going on here? The hostess walked past June as she headed to her office. What's with all the hustle? She thought before she saw a brunette with a purple crystal necklace take a bite of her sandwitch before she bolted out of the hall. What's wrong with everyone? June thought before a 7ft deity pranced by shouting Breloq's name.
June dusted off her denim jacket before she spotted an old man with a straw samurai hat that walked up to her. "Feeling lost?" Yin asked.
"No, I'm not." She was, but she won't admit it to a stranger she just met. "Why do you care anyway?" She asked him. The yamitzu master simply smiled.
"My mission is to teach the youth about the art of Yamitzu. Amidst the bustling there is a current that will lead you to your destination, you just have to find an opening to get there." Yin responded as he watched the energy surrounding the people passing through. June was aware of what he meant, but she didn't need a lecture, she needed to get to the arena.
"I know that, I just need to find the other fighters. The match will start any minute."
"Well why didn't you say so? I'm also competing in the tournament. I know how to get to the arena." Master Yin responded, June's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Thank you!" June didn't mean to sound desperate at this point, but she didn't care. She wanted out of this extradimensional maze of a stadium. The elderly Japanese yamitzu master put his hands behind his back and headed his way to the arena with June following him.
Astrid walked around warily, absolutely terrified at the amount of people around her. "Am I supposed to be here?" She mumbled glancing around nervously. A living, breathing four legged reptilian thing caught her eyes, and she froze. What in god's name is that? She thought whilst the black, purple striped Indoraptor walked past her to catch up to her friends.
"Wish me luck, Eros." Annabell requested though it was her nerves that were betraying her.
"Worry not m'lady, breathe." Eros encouraged before he gestured her to inhale, then exhale to keep her calm. "You already received a good omen let's not stray from it with doubts." Annabell stood firm with his advice. She kept calm until she spotted a black cat within the crowd of spectators.
"There's a black cat within the audience." She bit back a shriek.
"My lady! Focus!" The white wizard held a grip on her shoulder as he raised his voice. "There is no black cat within the audience. Keep your eyes on me." Annabell looked within the corner of her to look at the black cat again before he looked at Eros's face again. She kept her eyes on his handsome face and porcelain skin, and the glow of his radiant yellow eyes. The same eye color as the black cat.
"Oh god, Eros!" Annabell's voice raised three octaves before it lowered into a whisper. "You have the same eyes as that cat." Eros looked at her with a blank expression, then he facepalmed as his hand slowly lowered until his hand left his face. Now he needed to inhale and exhale to keep his zen.
"Good luck out there." He plastered a smile on his face before he neatly ironed out the creases of the cloak that rested upon Annabell's shoulders with his hands. There was no magic behind that gesture, he just wanted to keep his inner clean freak under control. As the white haired wizard walked his way up to take his seat he heard a singsong voice mentioning Breloq's name.
Alexander looked for Astrid around the stadium, he walked up to the second floor and checked through the rows of seats and as he looked down on the arena there was no one below. Astrid wasn't there as he was on his way down the stairs he heard bickering. No doubt that it was Ash and Tr arguing like an old married couple.
“That guy looks suspicious, look at him!” Tr insisted as he just saw a gray haired man sit down.
“Stop acting like an idiot. As a certified non-idiot, I want you to move outta the way and stop glaring at the next guy you see.”
“His white garb screams white Rave supremacist. Doesn't it provoke just a hint of suspition, a sliver?” Tr asked her earnestly then casted a death glare at Eros.
“Shut up and move. We don't want to be the center of attention.” Ash urged him to move forward. Logan sighed from behind them.
"Do you two ever shut up. Plus, why are you all in front of me?! I'm the leader here, not you three." He crossed his arms and stared down Alexander at the front.
Octavia rolled her eyes behind her steampunk glasses as she walked beside Logan and inspected the spectators curiously, hunting around for the nearest male to flirt with.
“So what's your plan, team leader?” Alexander asked humoring him.
“As it's already been established; we are to revise the perimeter and locate the parts. The bootlegged parts are usually stored in a compartment or a warehouse. With Astrid as a distraction we have plenty of time to search for an entrance. I only need the schematics of the establishment and pinpoint its location.” Logan ranted while Octavia had finally spotted an attractive male specimen. A smirk formed on her face, her red lips pursing, before she tapped Logan's shoulder lightly.
"No." Logan responded, not even batting an eye.
"Oh but he's gorgeous Logan." She said, not taking her eyes off a man with shiny golden hair in a stunning blue suit.
Logan growled. "I don't care if he's a freaking god, I said no."
Octavia huffed. "Meanie."
“The last guy you found cute was a spy, we don't need any more setbacks.” Logan remarked.
“Says the guy who got catfished by a hacker.” Octavia grumbled.
Alexander skimmed through the area and he already missed his girlfriend. Ash put a hand on his shoulder and gave a reassuring smile.
“Don't worry, she's alright.”
“I know, I miss already.” Alexander returned the smile.
“Oh, grow up!” Tr groaned.
Alexander gave a cold glare at Tr and let out a snarl.
“Ignore him, he's an idiot.” Ash assured before she was the recipient of Tr's glare, she remained unphased by his reaction.
