Chapter 7: The Family
Very Long Chapter Ahead! 7000 words and oh my god why did I write so much!?
Just an hour ago, three heroes in training had boarded a train to the more commercial areas of Japan where the buildings consume you and the technology is beyond your comprehension. Your father, Dante, owned a luxury home, a penthouse more specifically. Actually, he owned an entire skyscraper! Only on the highest level is where you'll find where the Renora family resides. Only the wealthy can afford to rent out a house there and just looking at such a towering building made your stomach churn with anticipation.
The three of you had began to stare up into the heavens and yet none of you could figure out where the top of the building would end. It was like the tower went on forever. No wonder why the building earned it's rightful nickname: Heaven's Tower. Katsuki Bakugou got tired of searching for heaven. His head of spiky blonde lowered until it sat parallel with his neck and shoulders. That almost iconic bored yet heated glare occupied his features as he delivered it to none other than yourself as he is known best. "How did you not know your family was famous?" Bakugou more states than asked from his end of overbearing curiosity. His exact viewpoint came to haunt you once again, how does somebody not know they're famous?
Problem number one: You try to stay away from all sources of media to the best of your ability.
Problem number two was fighting yourself to stop staring up at the sky. Even after lowering your head, you found your boyfriend, Shoto, still looking up at the heavens in search of the very top as clueless as ever. "Bakugou..." You let out an aggravated sigh to alleviate your pent up frustration. "My dad left my biological mom after I went under the ice. He wasn't famous before then and he changed his name. No easy way to put it... HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW?" Your eyebrows were cocked with such intensity they could freeze that way. Bakugou understood that you would've had no awareness about your father's success over the last thirty years through most means. His glare refused to diminish though...
"Are we going to stand out here all day or go inside?" Shoto lets out a bored sigh. Well, that was a new sight! Shoto had finally gotten the hint to quit staring into the sky like a moron.
"Yeah, sorry, let's go in," all frustration aside, your arm hooked with one of Shoto's like a chain. He had led the way inside the glorious tower fitting of the nickname of Heaven. The doors were made of flawless glass with a large calligraphy R etched into its face. Within, the warmth felt pleasant upon your abnormally chilled skin while the light breeze originated from the ceiling fans that lazily spun around overhead. The floor tiles were made of pearly marble and the walls painted a chocolate brown. At the end of the room was a large desk sat a bald man smoking a cigarette from an elaborate brown holder. Two chrome elevator doors were parallel of the desk.
That smoke puffing man glanced up from his computer monitor. He was juggling a variety of tasks upon it. With a simple roll of his grey eyes, they turned a cybernetic green. A large see through wall of the same color separated the lot of you from himself. "I'm afraid I don't recognize any of you. Unless you live here or have permission to visit, you must leave." The man, of course, knew that neither of you lived within the building. He's never seen anyone wear such common clothing within that very building before and that's saying a lot since all three of you were wearing jeans.
Bakugou rolled up the sleeves to his jacket, "Why I-"
Shoto jutted out and held him back. He then motioned for you to answer the man since you technically had business here and they didn't. You cleared your throat, "I'm here to visit Dante Renora." The man at the front desk narrowed his doubtful eyes on your form. "He's my dad... He asked me to come here today."
"Miss..." The man leaned forward in his seat. "I get that a lot."
Really? You growled, "fuck's sake..."
Ping!
Went the elevator. The steel doors retracted into the walls of its chamber. An assumed to be teenage boy with crossed arms stepped out from within. Everything he wore was black from the shirt that covered his back to the worn out combat boots on his feet. The man had flat hair that was deep purple almost indigo in color whereas the nape of his neck was it's length. The dark intimidating eyes captured your attention the most as they were much like someone else you knew and Shoto had thought the exact same.
^This is the closest picture that describes him.
Shoto's eyes had narrowed in on the male. "Shinsou?" He stepped forward to make sure his assumptions were correct
"Who the fuck is that?" The young man's words penetrates everyone as if they were daggers. Shoto quietly gasped as it was a completely unexpected response. He even managed to intimidate yourself as you couldn't help but blink wildly at him. Of all the people in the room, his attention was brought onto you. "You (Y/n)?" He barked out from behind the green barrier the front desk employee conjured up a moment ago.
"I am," you cocked your head. Seriously, who is this guy?
"I'm Shun," the male tapped the green barrier with a knuckle on the back of his hand. A ripple of energy came from the action. That must've been his hint towards the man at the front desk to take down his defenses. With another roll of his green eyes, the wall of green faded away and at last you could look Shun over in a better light. He looked to be about your age, if not maybe a year or two older because he wasn't exactly older in complexion nor youthful like a child. His skin was pale yet flawless of imperfections. Those eyes of his though, they were... Cold. Such a deep crimson yet they could've been easily mistaken for black. There's a faint light found within them, a faint hope. Somebody must've really hurt him at one point to make him such a heartless guy now. That's how easily you can read eyes, they can tell you everything.
"Nice to meet you Shun..." You held out your hand as a welcome. Instinctively, Shun stared at your hand in disgust, yet he gave you a handshake anyways. Just coming into contact with his hand had a deep frigid cold snap at your flesh and bones. The cold was painfully familiar, like that moment you froze yourself in time and all senses were numbed. You had no choice but to snatch your hand back. Shun's eyes lit up with genuine concern as your hand began shivering violently, involuntarily, and a pain like frostbite was eating your senses. "You're so cold," your teeth began to clatter.
Shun stared at your hand apologetically. In turn, frost began to inch over his own hands with a cold mist to waft from them. "Sorry," Shun shoved his hands into his pockets forcefully as he regrets this moment with every fiber of his being. "My quirk is... It's evil okay? Wish I never had it."
"It's fine actually," you reached backwards needily. Shoto understood that you wanted to hold his hand, the warm hand preferably. Props to him for understanding you perfectly because the warmth of his hand was like waving your hand over the open flame of a fireplace. It gave Shoto the satisfaction of being there when you're in need and the opportunity to snuggle into your side.
"Shun, you must be my brother," you spoke up once your jaw's useless clattering diminished.
"I am..." Shun wasn't sure how you pieced that together so soon let alone. "How'd you know?" His brows began to furrow.
"Our quirks." Two teens with powerful ice quirks. Well, three actually if you counted Shoto in the mix.
"Alright..." Shun shook his head violently as he brushed off the subject almost instantly. "Everyone is waiting upstairs. Follow me," with a wave of the hand, the hand that Shun hadn't touched you with, the three of you followed Shun into the right hand elevator. There was no buttons but a small computer wired into the wall as Shun inserted a keycard into a slot. The computer asked which floor he'd like to visit as a keypad appeared before the four of you. The 50th Floor was the grand destination. You were thankful the elevator had no windows to the outside world or else you'd be freaking out worse than you ever had before now.
Your discomfort reached an all time high as the numbers of the floors digitally appeared for everyone to view. Once the numbers projected that it had only risen ten floors, you cracked! It was sudden, you latched yourself onto Shoto like a boa constrictor as he could feel your body trembling. Bakugou and Shun stared at you wildly as if a bomb had let off. "Are you cold again or, what's wrong?" Shoto embraced you, pulling you into his chest the tightest he could to make sure you felt safe and sound.
Your core was racking not with cold, but raw fear. "Heights..." You whimpered into his chest. "The second I'm not in control I freak out," planes, windows, playground swings, you name it you'll probably fear it for dear life if you're more than five feet above the ground. Bakugou began to snicker as he found your fear to be pathetic. You didn't have the heart at the moment to tell him off.
Shun could relate himself to you at the moment. "You know..." Your brother spoke up. "One of our older sisters are scared of heights," Shun spoke almost distracted with an airy tone while aggravatingly texting someone on his phone. "She um... She um takes pills... Yeah, whenever she comes over she takes them to 'forget' about heights. I'm sure she can give you one," and so he pockets his phone with a huff.
"That'd be great actually..." You smile faintly but disappeared the second it came to be. "How exactly do they work though? How does one forget about their fears?" Cause that'd be awesome.
"I'm not sure what it is," Shun began to tap his foot. "Its either an antidepressant or a stress reliever or both, I don't know and I wish this thing would hurry the fuck up!!!" The purple haired boy kicked the elevator doors with what you had assumed to be everything he had. A small yet faint indent was visible where his shoe clashed. Shun, well, you figured out the moment you met him that he was ill tempered but he's quite impatient to top it all off. You hope that the rest of the family isn't like this.
At last, the elevator had reached the 50th floor in due time. It felt like an eternity in your mind as all you wanted was to get out of there, but the fear only skyrocketed as there was loud childish screaming that flooded the elevator shaft the second those doors began to peel from one another. A flash of yellow darted from left to right. You had no idea what it was, it was too fast! The screaming came from whatever it was though. The four of you exit the elevator and that quick yellow thing or 'things' came to a stop before the lot of you. The 'things' was actually a little boy and girl with blonde hair, canine ears and bushy orange tails. They're practically identical, unless...
"A boy just like us!!!" The fox girl cheered as she began to hop up and down before Bakugou.
"The hell is that supposed to mean?" Bakugou bared his teeth.
"Language Bakugou," Shoto reminded the blonde. "There's children present."
"Ryota!" The fox girl waved for her fox twin to join at her side as he was just sniffing Shoto's pants leg like a dog. The fox boy, now named Ryota, approached in a shy manner with his tail tucked between his legs. "Ryota, he looks like that puffy dog we saw in the park! Doesn't he?"
"A pom... A pomma," Ryota struggled to pronounce the name of said dog breed while biting his thumb. "He's a pommamanairian!" The boy exclaimed suddenly. It was so darn adorable how he tried to pronounce a dogs name!
"You mean a pomeranian?" Shoto suggested.
"Yeah, a pommamanairian," Ryota mispronounced the name yet again but you weren't complaining.
Bakugou growled and crossed his arms. "I am not a snippy purse dog!"
"He growls just like one too!" Fox girl did a little excited dance on the spot.
Bakugou snapped. "Why you-"
"Ryota! Ryuko!" Called a gentle voiced woman from the other room. The fox ears on both children perked up to the call. They're like pets, you began to think. That gentle voiced woman entered the room and by golly she was a beautiful one. You could tell she was an older woman as her hair was flowy and reached her mid back as it was silver at the roots and lavender near her ends. She wore a beautiful black dress embroidered with rhinestone flowers and jewelry of silver draped along her neck and shoulders. She reminded you of those stereotypical rich women in movies and tv. The woman held her arms out as she knelt down, "Babies, leave your sister's friends alone." The girl hummed.
The fox children ran into the woman's arms. They were the happiest beings alive. "We're sorry mommy," the kids giggled in unison.
The woman stood up and the fox children dispersed into another room. Her attention was brought onto you. "You must be the wonderful girl Dante has spoken so highly of." Upon speaking of such, the rest of the family came into the room one after the other. The twin fox siblings were dragging in a woman with dark violet hair that reached her behind. She wore a brown pantsuit, like a business woman. Much like Shun however, she doesn't look the most friendly as her face was distressed and eyes beaming with annoyance. Next entered a girl in her assumed to be late twenties maybe even early thirties. Her hair was lavender, a color so light it could easily be mistaken for white. She actually sparked something within your head as she was really familiar, but you also couldn't put your finger on it. Maybe you've seen her in public? Lastly, the man you knew better than anybody: Your father. He has clearly aged over the years. He's what, in his sixties now? Despite his age and the noticeable wrinkles on his cheeks, he still had this youthful charm to himself and he still wore his white hair combed back just like he did thirty years ago.
You were frozen on the spot. You want to tackle your father on the spot into the largest hug you can muster. Instead, it was the shock of seeing your entire family in one room, seven members in all, that kept you from doing so. Shoto spoke up in your place realizing you needed a moment to gather your strength to speak. "Yeah, this is (Y/n)," Shoto nods and points at the man of the room. Shoto recognized him as your father from the photographs you've shown him the night before. "His daughter... Are you her step mom?" He asked of the older woman.
"The one and only," she hummed with one hand ruffling the hair of Ryota's head. "I'm Aoi Renora, the famed fashion designer," Bakugou and Shoto simultaneously coughed as if they choked. She's one of the biggest fashion icons in the world! Aoi was flattered with their reactions and approached your friends. Shoto was first on the list, "and who might you be you handsome boy?"
You snapped out of your trance suddenly for reasons unknown. "He's Shoto Todoroki... My boyfriend," you finally spoke up after an eternity of silence then turned to Bakugou. "And this here is..." You began to tear up. There's nothing you want more than to hug your father and nothing can distract your burning desire.
"I'm Katsuki Bakugou," Bakugou introduced his own self since you failed to do so.
"Are you okay (Y/n)?" Shoto wiped a tear that began to stain your cheeks. You shake your head to put his nerves at ease. Your neck stretched to see over his shoulder and that was when your father was stepping around his new family to meet with you as he must have understood your failure to conceal your emotions. You hate to admit it, but you shoved Shoto to the side all to bolt out and embrace your father.
You weren't aware of how much you missed him until now, "Dad..." You wept into his shoulder.
"(Y/n)..." His older voice wavered as he too held back tears that could no longer hold them back.
This moment was so full of energy, Shoto couldn't help but smile. Even Bakugou found the moment sweet enough that it managed to make one corner of his lips arch upwards. After a minute of non-stop hugging, Shun pressed a balled up fist to his mouth and cleared his throat to catch the attention of everyone. "Let's start introductions... Y'know, welcome our sister to the family." There was a stress behind his desperate change of attention.
Your father cleared his throat, "why yes, that'd be a good idea. I got too caught up in the moment." As humble as ever, the man ruffled the hair of the identical twins. They climbed up your father as if he were a human jungle gym. "These are the twins, Ryuko and Ryota. We adopted them last year after their parents died in a car accident. They've been quite a handful ever since their quirks came in. It's like we own two dogs!" The man laughed from his gut.
"I can tell," you awed. But the cuteness didn't last very long. Those demons with fox tails pounced on Bakugou taking him to the ground as if he weighed nothing. They ran all over him, bit him and you're assuming they're trying to play wrestle with him but their intentions are quite unclear. Bakugou was cursing up a storm as expected. Shoto and yourself tried to pry the demons off of him but they kept coming back more eager than the last. You're beginning to wonder if they're trying to murder him on the spot.
Shun sighed, "I'll get the dog treats..."
"Dog treats?" Shoto asked wildly. Dad did say that they act like dogs...
"For some odd reason they love dog treats," your father snickered. "It's not very odd though since they're foxes which are in the dog family."
"Just get these fuckers off of me!!!" Bakugou had to resist with all his might as to use his quirk. You could tell with how his palms sparked up like mini fire crackers but didn't detonate like his usual explosions. Instead, he'd pick up your little siblings by the collars of their shirts and throw them off, soaring through the air! Butt much like a boomerang they refused to stay away for long.
Shun came back into the room with two dog treats that resembled that of a knockoff oreo cookie. "Heathens!" The boy called. The foxes snapped their heads at Shun with wild cunning eyes. "Leave the Pomeranian alone and you'll get treats!"
"I'm not a fucking Pomeranian!!!" Bakugou threw the kids off him yet again. This time, they stayed off and bolted for Shun's feet where they sat with wagging tails. Wow, it's really like they're dogs. You're not very sure if that's a good or a bad thing.
"I hate kids..." Bakugou grumbled. His skull shirt was ripped up pretty badly.
"And I'm sure they hate you too..." Shoto spoke under his breath.
"Let's move on," your father hurriedly changed the subject as he motioned for your sisters to join in. The older violet haired woman reluctantly approached the lot of you while the younger white haired girl couldn't contain her excitement. Your father lied a hand upon the darker haired girl's shoulder, "This is Nyah. She's lives here with us and she's a lawyer," the girl rolled her eyes. Your father shifted focus onto the younger girl. "And this is April. She's one of the head newscasters on my network. She earned that position all on her own."
"No wonder you look familiar," you awed. You've seen her a handful of times on the news!
"I did a story on you when you got out of the ice!" April took it upon herself to shake you by the hand. "Dad has told me so many stories about you. It's so nice to finally meet my long lost sister!" You couldn't even reply before she embraced you on the spot. She retracted almost immediately, sidetracked by your boyfriend, all to poke and prod at Shoto's face. "I must agree with mom, your man is so cute and handsome and his scar makes him look so edgy."
"She's too perky..." Shoto spoke openly and clearly despite her face pulling.
"It's all part of my job!" April laughed merrily.
"We can all get acquainted later, I'd like to have a moment with you, (Y/n), if you don't mind," Your father interrupted the peace but within reason. You agreed after staring at Shoto in a prolonged search for guidance. He understood your concern, but nodded anyways giving you the okay to separate yourself from him for that much needed moment alone with your father. You nod in return to your father as he took you by the hand and guides you outside to the luxury apartment's balcony. Of course you kept away from the edge as much as you could with your fear of heights on a frenzy. The male led you to an outdoor garden swing furnished in the color of grey. He chuckled as he picked up a few toys that littered the seat. Two of them were of pro hero action figures. You recognized one of them as Endeavor which made you gag, while the other was of one of your teachers at UA: All Might. Although you've never seen him powered up, you still recognized him after Midoriya gave you a thirty year crash course to catch you up with pop culture and such. Another toy that occupied the bench was a braided rope like a dog toy, and the last was a fluffy chick plush with stuffing spilling out from the sides. They all must have belonged to those two rambunctious twins.
"You being here, brings much joy onto me," your father offered you a seat upon the swing whereas you sat without a word added. "Your mother was determined that you ran away with that Enji boy you were dating back then. Although I had no idea as to what happened to you at the time, I was positive you hadn't done as she said," your father too sat down beside you. The swing began to sway to and back.
"What made you so sure that I didn't run away? Enji... He's partially responsible for me disappearing dad."
"You're a smart young woman," the man grinned. "It's not like your mother or myself disagreed with your relationship, in fact we encourage it," your dad sighed to take a breather. "You went to your school of dreams, at the top of your class, parents who supported you. You knew better than to touch drugs or have sex... You're smarter than a lot of children your age. If you had ran away, it'd make absolutely no sense," your father turned to you and rested his hand upon yours that sat atop your legs. "For those reasons, I knew you'd never run away even if Enji suggested."
"So," your heart was fluttering as if it had wings. What you had been fearing for over the last few weeks was all for nothing. Your mother planted these false ideas of worry within you for nothing. "What I'm hearing is that mom jumped to conclusions? I wasn't shunned from the family!"
"It was like she was blinded by the idea," your father agreed.
"Oh my..." You frowned. "I kind of want to get off the subject. But I also... Why did you cheat on mom? Why'd you stay with her? Why couldn't you have been honest about it? Maybe she was paranoid about your affair that that's the reason why she assumed I ran away-"
"Affair?" Your father finally spoke up with a gasp that cuts your speech short. "I loved her, I'd never cheat on her."
"Are you telling me mom's crazy or something?" Oh great, you're beginning to tear up again. Senseless fighting is where you grow sensitive. "She told me that after I 'disappeared' you broke up with her because you were cheating on her and I was the reason you stayed with us. Now I want full honesty! Is that true?"
Your dad sat there and his face was completely struck with horror. Either you called him out on the affair or your own mother completely knit all these lies about him to deliberately keep yourself away from him. "I'm sorry kid... Yes, I broke the marriage off but it wasn't because I had an affair. I left because of you. You leaving us, destroyed us both."
"I killed your marriage?" Guilt, the guilt was sitting in and now you want to vomit. Being responsible for the destruction of a marriage would destroy anyone.
"Don't blame yourself," he pointed out in an attempt to calm yourself down. "Your mother was blinded by rage and sorrow. She spoke horribly of you, set your belongings aflame and then she started assuming a million other things such as um..." Your father hummed. "She thought I was away from home all the time because I was seeing another woman. I had a female business partner but I didn't see her in a romantic light. She also assumed I was in the drug business because I got sick easily thinking it was drug symptoms or withdrawal hence why I always had money too. I was tired of arguing, the finger pointing, but most of all how she'd downtalk you so horribly. I couldn't stay with her and I'm sure you understand."
Mom was delusional... Once her mind had itself set on an idea there was no changing it. That explains a lot actually now that you think about it. There were a few arguments your parents had that you do vividly remember growing up. Most are extremely irrelevant as of now but long story short, she was very gullible, very delusional, very to the point as you've figured out growing up. She had this belief that the second a place or person had a bad reputation that they'll forever stay bad. Mother also gave up on problems easily and usually, as your father pointed out, takes assumptions to a whole new level as if they were fact and nothing but the truth.
"Why was I so blind..." You dropped your head into your hands. It wasn't very bright of you to believe in your mother about everything. How father cheated on her and left without a trace being the biggest mistake.
"Blind?" Your father hummed.
"Sorry," you lifted your head. "I didn't realize mom was delusional until just now."
"I thought that was a mutual understanding between you and me," he chuckled.
"Just you," you nod. "How'd you make your dream of being one of the biggest news companies a thing? How'd you end up marrying Aoi Renora, one of the biggest fashion icons in Japan? Why do you have so many kids? It's like an animal house in there!" You peered in through the windows of the apartment to learn that for some odd reason, Shoto was wrestling with Shun and losing? Shun was almost effortlessly pinning Shoto to the ground while Shoto in turn tried to fight back but was restrained with such perfection that even he couldn't figure a way around the situation. Bakugou on the other hand was fending off your foxy twin siblings... Again. Whenever one twin would bite him, he bit back! Those kids were scurrying all over his body freaky fast like a squirrel to a tree.
"I can go into deeper details later but I'll give you a rundown," your dad chuckled. "I was a photographer for a fashion line Aoi worked for. It's how I got my start! She was a model, I took pictures of her, we hit it off and began dating. Soon enough, she started her own fashion line and when she blew up, she gave me the money for my News Company and here we are now," he motioned towards everything and that meant the whole building. "Aoi had a kid when she was a teen, that's Nyah I'm talking about," Ah, that explains why Nyah had such an old and rugged look to her. In fact, Nyah looked older than your step mother if that says a lot. Dad did say that she was a lawyer. Lawyers have stressful jobs and stress causes anyone to age much faster than aging itself. That actually makes little sense right? Well, stress causes wrinkles and grey hairs which is what Nyah had. Step mother on the other hand had a strangely youthful complexion to herself. She, of course, has the money from her fashion line to settle down and use botox if she truly wanted to leave her with a life of little stress and luxury.
Your father continued his brief explanation on his life success. "After we got married, we had April. She's 28... I think. Either 28 or 29 but I do recall that she has a child of her own who just turned five last month. Now, onto your brother. Shun came a long while afterwards seeing that he's your age and he's much like you too," your father seemed particularly partial to Shun. Could you blame him? The house is overrun with women and father's almost always have that special bond with their son. Plus, dad did just mention that Shun is quite similar to yourself; his son is similar to the daughter he's long lost until today.
"How's he like me?" You were hungry for details. Shun is so moody and rude unlike you. Yeah you had sass but you'd never intentionally pick fights and call people names.
"Very smart, independent," he listed off. "And he's always dreamt of becoming a hero ever since he heard me speak of you at a young age."
"Oh..." Your heart was fluttering again. Imagine being a role model for someone, anyone. The fact that you inspired someone to do good was moving as it was. "I inspire him?"
"You must have," he nudged you on the arm playfully.
"What stories did you tell him?" Oh man, a million come to mind.
"How you tried out for UA and made it into the top three in your second year. How in your free time you were always sharpening your skills or volunteering. You were determined to be the best hero there ever was."
"That's sweet," you awed.
Your father began to frown. "Shun used to be the most selfless man I've ever known. Everyone could tell he was eventually going to become a big name hero. Just... He's gone quite cold lately, and I'm not just talking about his quirk."
"What happened?" You can't forget the story Shun's eyes told you in the lobby. His eyes used to hold great determination and happiness, now that heroic spark is just barely visible as all you can see is pain.
"Shun... He's tried out for every hero school in Japan... Not one of them accepted him. That's when everything about him changed for the worst."
"Not one?" You're near speechless.
"Shun won't tell anyone why he's gotten declined as many times as he has," your dad turned towards the window as your foxy siblings were rooting Shun for his victory against Shoto. "As you can tell, he can clearly hold his own in a fight. He has the mentality of a hero too or, at least he used to. Makes me wonder where he went wrong."
"Yeah..." You took pity for your brother. "I wonder too..." Shun used to be likable? Did the constant rejection result in damaged pride? How do you go from being one of the most loved people around to being one of the most toxic?
"That boy though," your father faced you once more. "Who is he again?" You tilted your head. Is he talking about his own son? "Your boyfriend? Where'd you dig him up? Tell me about him."
"Oh," you shake your head. "He's Shoto... Him and another good friend of mine got me out of the ice that kept me frozen for so long. He's been pretty dedicated to me since that moment. He always makes sure that I'm doing okay, makes sure that I'm warm. He's gone through leaps and bounds to make sure that I have friends, I'm happy, safe. He rarely smiles yet I make him smile," you're smiling just talking about Shoto. It's like a match made in heaven. "Weird part of all this is that he's actually Enji's youngest son."
"You're dating one of Enji's offspring?" You father took much concern which worried you greatly for what he may say. "I'm sorry but... Don't you find it inappropriate to date your former lover's son? Do you even like Shoto for who he is? Are you sure you're not just forcing yourself to love this boy because you used to love Enji?"
"Oddly enough," you shrugged. "I thought everything you just asked about at one point in time."
"And?"
"Excuse my language but I fucking hate Enji now," your body began to tremble with the anger you've been hanging onto blindly for the last week. "Enji fucking abused his entire family. Yeah! His wife, his kids, and I'm sure you noticed that huge scar on Shoto's face!" You were pacing about the balcony. "Shoto is such a depressed guy. He's like... Deprived of love and affection. He was viewed as an object rather than a person. Whenever he makes a friend he hangs onto them for dear life. I'm touched that he chose me to love and might I say the same back to him."
"Then... If you're happy, I'm happy," your father stood up from the swing with a struggle. Although he does look young for a 65 year old, his body sure holds the strain that comes with life. "Consider being frozen in time a gift," he poked you on the nose. "You never married the asshole of a father that Enji became."
"Wow, did not expect you to swear."
"We all saw it coming," he pressed his hand to your back. "I say it's about time we got back to the family."
"Yeah," you nod. "This moment turned into a half hour."
"Let's head back in," your father opened up the door that led inside. "By the way, behind closed doors, you may call me father as freely as you want. In public, please call me Dante. The public has no idea that I have a family of my own for safety reasons."
"Understood... Dante," you winked and head inside. Shoto was lying on the floor staring at the ceiling. His clothes were disheveled and partially torn at the seams. He must've lost horribly. You sighed with a smile and stepped before him. You peered down upon your boyfriend and he smiled up at you in return. "I witnessed the fight," you pointed out. "What was it about?"
"He threw out the point that people with quirks rely on them too much then challenged me," Shoto sat up with a struggle. His back was killing him. "I took it easy, then realized he was stronger than he looked..."
"Dad told me he's been trying out for hero schools all over the country," you brought to his attention.
"I figured that out the hard way," Shoto was taking this defeat hard to say the least.
"I'm not enrolled in school while you are and still lost," Shun smirked at the two of you.
"No need to gloat Shun," you helped Shoto to his feet.
"Sorry," Shun was pleased with himself. "I saw your boyfriend on national tv during the sports festival and I can't believe I defeated him one on one. It gives me the sense of accomplishment I never had you know..." For once, Shun didn't look as if he was mad at the entire world but instead thrilled beyond his comprehension.
You found yourself smiling too. "Well," you embraced Shoto's arm. "I think you just made his entire year."
"Wait, what?" Shoto gave you a wild look.
"Shun tried out for every hero school in the country and each one declined his enrollment. Just like he said, he needed that sense of accomplishment after being rejected for so long," Speaking about your brother's failures as a dreaming hero hurt more now than hearing it first hand.
"No wonder why he acts like..." Shoto bit his own tongue with your younger siblings present.
"A fucking rat crawled up his ass and died!" Bakugou stood to your right. There were bite marks all over his body. Deep bite marks. The children didn't draw any blood, but it was disturbing how perfect those bite marks were indented into Bakugou's skin. Wait, did they bite his face too!?
"How'd you get rid of the twins?" Shoto questioned in astonishment.
Bakugou seethed as he motioned behind himself. "They fucking dropped... Their asses are lucky I didn't blast them to the moon and back." The twins were sleeping all sprawled out upon the floor. One of it's back while the other was folded into a ball embracing it's tail and using it as a pillow. Can those fiends get any cuter!?
"I'm so sorry you had to deal with that torture..." You apologized. The torture was all over him.
"You fucking owe me more than just a fight after this..." Bakugou shoved his hands into his pockets.
"Name it. I'll do whatever or give you whatever you want."
"You're buying my lunch for the next week for starters," Bakugou glared at you.
"I can do that," especially now with your parents being the CEO of their own companies.
"And I know you're gonna come here on a regular so just do me a favor and don't ask me to come along ever again if those two fuckers are here."
"Consider that a promise," you gave Bakugou your word. Surprisingly, he's taking all of this better than you had imagined. You thought that this ill tempered male would have broke a chair or beat the shit out of your siblings maybe even stormed out of the house long before now but instead he's settling on a promise.
The rest of the afternoon was easy. April tucked your fox siblings into bed where they didn't come back out for the rest of the night. Nyah kept her distance the most out of everyone as she claimed to have 'work' to do and was aggressively at work on her laptop. You couldn't get a good reading on Nyah which was sad. You really couldn't tell if she didn't want anything to do with you or if she was too swamped with her job to actually enjoy your presence. April, as perky as ever, went on and on and on about the crazy things she does as a news reporter all the while getting occasionally distracted by Shoto on a regular. She's almost thirty and yet she was falling hard for your two toned boyfriend. Shun on the other hand, didn't want to speak of himself period. He kept questioning Bakugou, Shoto and yourself about hero work, what you all do in school and the adventures they've been on. It was like he was a child eating up candy and your words was his sugar. Pretty soon, it was late and you all had to return back to campus.
"You're all welcome to spend the night here," your mother, Aoi, offered sweetly as the three of you put on your shoes to leave.
"We can't," Shoto began.
"Even though it's a weekend, we need permission to stay off School grounds overnight," you'd love to spend the night if you could. You'd live the rest of your life with your new family if you truly could.
You mother was on the verge of crying, "I meet my step daughter and then she leaves just like that!" The woman fell into Dante's arms in a crying fit. Dante looked disturbed and embarrassed for his wife's behavior.
"I'll make it a regular thing to visit on weekends alright!" You pat Aoi on the back. "Maybe I can bring along one of my friends each time too? I got a few more you haven't met like Midoriya and Kirishima and Uraraka and maybe..." You began to hesitate. "I'll make amends with one of my classmates and bring him along too. Something tells me that he'd get along pretty well with Shun," you'd tell Shun yourself but the boy is too busy arguing with Nyah to say goodbye to you.
"That'd be phenomenal," Dante nodded quickly as he was still trying to get his wife to put herself back together. "Safe travels the lot of you."
"And bring back your boyfriend too!" Aoi's crying fit broke out of nowhere.
"Sh-Sure," you stepped into the elevator where Bakugou and Shoto have been waiting for quite some time now. The doors closed, marking that as the end of one reunion you'll never forget.
Nobody spoke up until the three of you got on the train. Bakugou fell asleep very soon into the two hour trip home. Shoto was nodding off, but remained awake as you hadn't shown any signs of fatigue. "What's on your mind?" Shoto snaked his hand into yours.
"I... I love my new family," your genuine smile moved Shoto for the better.
"They sure loved me too," Shoto snickered.
"Yeah um, I'm so sorry about that," you apologized for their quirkiness. "I found it so wrong that My older sister and my mom was flirting with you all night."
"Were they?"
"Oh my god!" You gasped. "How clueless are you?"
Shoto looked into his own self and found himself genuinely smiling. "I was thinking about how happy you were the entire time that I didn't think much of it..."
"Were you really?"
"I was."
"Thank you for coming with me today," you rested your head upon his shoulder and closed your eyes. Shoto too found himself resting his head against yours and falling into a slumber.
