Chapter 24: The Girl In Need Of A Hero
To be honest, This chapter isn't edited but honestly I wanted this chapter to be part of the last chapter but I couldn't since there's a word limit per chapter thanks to Wattpad's crappy rules. But yeah, Sorry I didn't edit but I wanted to get this chapter out to you all sooner rather than later.
The League of Villains
To (Y/n)'s knowledge, the League is a villain organization founded LONG after she began her thirty year hibernation and it wasn't until the last year or so that they began making earth shaking moves one after the other. They plan carefully, play the long game and apparently now is their time to strike! Why else was (Y/n) taken hostage out of nowhere? She figured the League had run out of any other options and had to strike now or else their plan for riches galore with the downfall of the Renora family would be all for naught.
She just... Did expect to be taken the way she did.
To learn the mastermind behind the plan and her brother's near assassination attempt was a title held by her sister, Nyah, on her step mother's side. Her boyfriend's brother was forced to take her hostage, despite how badly he wanted to flee the League himself. Shoto was defeated in such horrific fashion as his innards were burnt to the third degree. Is Shoto even still alive after that? All he wanted was to reunite with his brother and now he's all tangled up in this family fortune bullcrap. Sadly, (Y/n) would've came to Shoto's aid if only her life wasn't on the line and that... (Y/n) very well knew that if she were to fight, she stood absolutely no chance. Even her deeply rooted heroic values couldn't kick in, that's how hopeless the situation was and everyone is paying the price.
For moments now, (Y/n) stood beside Dabi at some abandoned warehouse as their pale blue haired leader looked her over head to toe as if she was livestock. What was he looking for anyways? A weakness? Something valuable? (Y/n) couldn't piece it together no matter how much her head wrapped around the subject...
The leader hummed with interest and stuffed his hands within his long black trenchcoat. All his weight had shifted onto one leg and he began to grimace sickly. "Tell me (Y/n)... Why are you being so cooperative?" The man asked with curiosity and (Y/n) could very well tell his curiosity was peaked just by his tone of voice alone. "The last classmate of yours we borrowed had to be chained up for a few days. But look at you, not moving a muscle."
Oh well... I guess that's why he's so curious. Wasn't Bakugou the one they kidnapped? Yeah... Bakugou definitely would need to be chained down because there's no reasoning with him. "Me being cooperative?" (Y/n) restates the question. "My life is on the line... What else can I say?"
(Y/n) peered over meekly at Dabi and he didn't like it in the slightest. That wasn't just a 'look', (Y/n) was disappointed in him. Betrayed. That is precisely what he did, betray her and his brother all in one. Guilt settled within his stomach, a feeling he's nearly forgotten in its entirety. (Y/n) isn't the last person he'd betray, but she is one of the very last and such a finding was eating at them both.
"Your life?" The blue haired man snickers. "Yeah no, you can trust us. You won't be dying on our watch," he assures with yet another one of his sickly grimaces. "I'm Tomura, Tomura Shigaraki and I wish to give you new meaning. You see, the League is something else. We want change, to destroy the fake heroes out there for a better future."
Way to steal from Stain you jackass, Dabi internally spits. You just wanna destroy heroes in general don't deny it...
"Don't care," (Y/n) spoke clearly. "Why would I join you?" She came out openly. "You killed my brother, left my boyfriend for dead, kidnapped me and next you'll kill my entire family. All you're doing is taking from me, and I see no gain. So tell me... Why should I join?" (Y/n) remained as calm as ever, yet everyone could hear the pain in her wavering voice. Her point was clear as day, there's no way in hell she'll join them, and she said it without an ounce of hope in her being.
"I can see that you and your brother are nothing alike," Shigaraki came to said conclusion with ease. "He was quite easy to persuade but you're holding out strong."
"I mean you don't see me fighting back," (Y/n) shrugged.
"Snarky aren't we," Shigaraki's crimson orbs narrowed in on her. "Fine. Work with us and you won't be treated like a prisoner. Don't and well yeah you know the drill."
"Yeah... I'm not joining," (Y/n) sighed. "Next time... Don't try to hire someone of whom you've slaughtered everyone they love."
Shigaraki shook his head and faced Nyah with a glare. "Why is she like this? Who's her boyfriend and why was he killed?" Nyah wasn't answering him. It was as if the words went in through one ear and out the other. Shigaraki approached her and wrapped his hand around her throat. "You did it again didn't you?" Shiggy hissed. "First you kill our spy and now... Watch it you murdered a student we had our eyes on."
"You knew?" Nyah was left in utter disbelief.
"We ALL know you took his life," Shigaraki released her throat. "I didn't like how he was joining the heroes either, but at least we were still getting information out of him. Shun was one of the last people I wanted dead. Nobody here would lie a hand on him cause once you cross me, you'll be lucky to see tomorrow."
"Yet I'm miraculously here?" Nyah tuts.
"You're just lucky I need you for this plan," Shigaraki shared one last heated gaze and turned back to a hopeless (Y/n). "So who was he?"
In any other situation, )Y/n) wouldn't be so cooperative, but she was playing her cards carefully. "A Todoroki... That's all you need to know," (Y/n) saw flames behind Shigaraki's eyes. He had his eyes on Shoto no doubt and Dabi took that away from him. (Y/n) knew better than to say Dabi was responsible for most likely killing Shoto. If this confession is enough to persuade Shigaraki to kill Nyah on the spot then that's one less obstacle for (Y/n) and Dabi both.
It took everything Shigaraki had to not lash out at Nyah. "You're not gonna fight back huh?"
"I'd die if I use my quirk so there's no point," (Y/n) stares back at the man.
"How similar is it to your brother's?"
Not really... "Every time I use my quirk I risk freezing to death and I WAS dating someone who counteracted that weakness but YEAH NOT LIKE HE CAN HELP ME NOW!!!" Nyah lunged out at (Y/n) but Dabi and Toga made sure to hold her back.
Shigaraki smirked, "hmph... Useful."
"Huh?" (Y/n) tilted her head slightly.
"Dabi," Shigaraki called.
"Yeah?" Dabi sighed.
"Kurogiri will send you and our guest to one of father's facilities. His doctor will know what to do," Shigaraki rested a hand upon (Y/n)'s shoulder and guided her over to the boy riddled in scars. "Considering your little stunt a few weeks ago, you'll be responsible for her. Anything happens to her... You know what'll happen-"
"What's happening?" (Y/n) began to freak and she instinctively clutched onto Dabi's arm for dear life.
Shigaraki lowered himself down to (Y/n)'s level and grimaced, "We're gonna figure out what makes your body tick."
"I thought you needed me alive," she grits her teeth.
"Who said we were gonna kill you? It's not too late to join us Birdie."
Dabi pulled (Y/n) away and walked towards Kurogiri who stood in a dark corner of the warehouse. "Forget him," Dabi wretched. "You're not getting hurt under my watch."
"But you JUST killed your brother..." (Y/n)'s eyes began to water. "How do I know I can trust you?"
"He is not dead," Dabi rolled his eyes. "Far from it."
"We left him for dead-"
Dabi smacked her upside the head, "Considering dad and myself... The worst I did was burn him. He'll be fine in a few days, week tops. I promised him I'd bring you back to him alive."
"Touya..." (Y/n)'s heart fluttered with hope. "Then... Why don't we run now? It'd be the perfect time."
"Not while the devil's here," Dabi shared one last glare at Nyah, the purple haired demon, before leading (Y/n) and himself into the belly of the beast.
The weekend went by within the blink of an eye and soon enough when school came back on Monday, everything was different. Hitoshi's new desk neighbor happened to be his 'twin brother' Hide but weirdly enough, the appearance of a new student wasn't peculiar but the disappearance instead.
"Okay... No," Hitoshi shook his head. "Did (Y/n) and Todoroki sleep in or something?" Why else is the happy couple not in class.
"They were gone all weekend," Hide shrugged with a devilish snicker.
"Bet they booked a hotel," Bakugou suggested.
"My man getting laid before me," Kaminari admits with a pained heart.
"Ew gross bro," Kirishima wretched. "They wouldn't do that."
"They wouldn't," Aizawa stepped in with a tired groan. The class whipped their heads back up to the front and awkwardness settled in like a thick fog as their teacher walked head first into a pervert fest.
"Um..." Midoriya spoke up uneasily. "Do you happen to know where (Y/n) and Todoroki are at Mr. Aizawa sir?"
"According to Endeavor, Todoroki is out for personal matters as some of you figured from the news," Aizawa knew to just settle into his sleeping bag since the class was gonna talk all hog wild about Todoroki's unfortunate turn of events.
"I'm confused..." Midoriya tilted his head.
"I think someone burnt his house down. I also don't want to assume since I'm not very sure..." Tsu frowns yet the class was all ears and she knew she had to continue. "There was a segment on the news about it. I only saw the tail end of it."
"You sure about that?" Denki waved his cell phone around. "I'm finding nothing about a fire-"
"Probably because Endeavor didn't want the public knowing someone targeted his family," Iida came to that conclusion on the fly given how quickly his Stain incident was covered up months prior. If a pro wants news coverage made OR taken down, it'll happen at the snap of a finger... Most of the time.
"Imagine if it stayed on the news," Momo muttered.
"More people would target them."
I'm sure Touya had something to do with it... Hide was deep in thought. I too saw something about the news the froggy girl was talking about but didn't care to remember anything. I just remember that blue flames were involved. Family matters my ass. Shoto and (Y/n) aren't here because they got kidnapped or something. The date for the murder is close... They need (Y/n) and knowing her dingbat of a boyfriend he went along with her or Nyah killed him. Hide sat forward in his seat as something hit him. Hospital... If anyone's at the hospital, it's Shoto. Nyah knows who Touya and Shoto are to each other, and although she lacked to give me mercy, she probably blackmailed Touya into doing her bidding. That's if she figured out Touya was betraying the League. I'm sure she did... Gotta go to the hospital then. Someone's bound to be there.
After class, Hide suggested to Midoriya that the 'Family Matters' excuse Endeavor made to excuse Shoto from school is just a cover up. Shoto and (Y/n) MUST be in danger because unless they did the dirty, there's no reason for them to be missing. So, Midoriya called up a few hospitals until he got a hit! Indeed, Shoto Todoroki had been checked into the hospital as of yesterday morning and now they're visiting him to hopefully get some answers.
However, when Hide and Midoriya tried to enter his room, a nurse was quick to provide a roadblock. "Mr. Todoroki made it clear that he doesn't want visitors," the nurse tuts giving the boys, especially Hide, a look over. "Nice to see you back Mr. Renora... But I still can't let you in."
A tinge of pink tickled Hide's cheeks. He's only ever been referred as Mr. Renora a select few times. "I don't go by that name anymore," he regrets to inform the nurse who knew him from his previous stays. "He's our friend... You know me... I wouldn't hurt him."
The nurse softened up a little bit, but she hadn't fled from the doorway. "I still can't let you in," She sighed. "I know you mean well, but he doesn't want visitors."
"Is he okay?" Midoriya frowned.
"I can't release any medical information," she too frowned.
"He just wants to know if he's okay," Hide backed up the green haired wonder. "Is he dead, dying or none of the above?"
The nurse gave in, these boys are only looking out for their friend. "Far from it... But I really shouldn't say more without consent."
"Can you please ask him if we can see him?" Midoriya was adamant. "I need to know if there's anything I can do to help."
"You're just lucky he's awake," the nurse sighed as she scribbled something down on her clipboard. "He's been going in and out... A lot... We can't keep him awake for longer than a few minutes at a time so if he tells you to leave then please, leave."
"Understood," Midoriya nods his head as the girl went ahead inside the hospital room.
There was quiet chatter and she came back with a shy smile. "Only you," she points at Midoriya. "I'm sorry Mr. Renora but you were asked to leave."
"Not my name..." Hide shook his head, then it hit him. "Wait... Are you serious?" Hide was offended. "He wants me to leave?" I haven't even went into his room!!!
"Unfortunately," the nurse earned herself an explanation from Shoto as to why he doesn't want Hide around but she can't bring her heart to tell him.
"You heard her," Midoriya gently pushed Hide away. "Todoroki can't stay awake for that long. I'll be in and out."
"Fine," Hide growled and stomped away.
Midoriya shook it off and entered the room. The boy was lying upon a slightly elevated hospital bed shirtless within a blanket draped over his lower half. Todoroki's stomach, up until his chest, was a deep purple in color with a few staples here and there. A dry erase board on one side of the room explained skin graft procedures, in which that must be what's going on with Shoto's stomach, and that there wasn't much for the nurses to do since Shoto's quirk allowed him to recover from burns easily. Much to Midoriya's surprise, Todoroki was doing much better than expected. Not that Todoroki's condition wasn't bad but, Midoriya thought he was on his deathbed there for a hot second. Although, the purpled skin and staples reminded Midoriya of someone and it wasn't good...
"The whole class is worried sick about you," Midoriya began. "We heard your house caught on fire... Is it true?"
"Why would I lie?" Todoroki refused to make eye contact. His voice was weak and tired.
"So it DID happen?" Midoriya craved confirmation but not a response came. "Todoroki... What happened? Hide's afraid that (Y/n)'s in trouble... And I don't wanna believe tha-" Despite how Todoroki had his head faced away from him, Midoriya could see his grey eye grow glossy. "Todoroki..." Midoriya's eyes too were welling up. "The League of Villains burnt down your house and took (Y/n)... Didn't they?"
Todoroki inhaled a great amount of air. The inflation of his stomach pulled on his staples greatly leaving a pained groan upon exhaling. "Can you just leave?" He began to beg.
"Admit it..." Midoriya has never seen Todoroki in so much pain. "I know how bad you must feel! You couldn't save her but you tried! Don't just lie there and avoid your problems as if you've lost Todoroki. Once you're recovered, we can get her back together," Midoriya balled his hand up into a fist.
"No..." Todoroki sighed once more and finally faced Midoriya. "Do you know that one villain? The one with the blue flames?"
A bit off topic but okay. "Dabi?"
"He's my brother," Todoroki opened up. Oddly enough, Midoriya sort of already assumed they were related to some degree. "It was either I die and the villains take (Y/n) or Dabi hurts me and they take (Y/n). Either way... They were gonna take her. My brother just wasn't ready to see me go..."
"And?" Midoriya found the story to be touching and all, but he's still in the wrong. "You're just gonna let (Y/n) go because that villain is your brother?"
"I love (Y/n)," Todoroki's voice wavered as he tried to hold back a cry. "But I can't help her right now and he promised to save her for me."
"The big question here is," Midoriya knelt down. "Can you trust that he'll do that?"
"I wish I was dead right now," Todoroki admits. "I should be the one to save her... But I can't... But I want to see her again too... I can only trust him to bring her back home to me for now... Until I can save her myself."
