Chapter five: My fault
(Y/N) POV
I stared at the phone in my best friend's hand in shock.
"Tooth... a-are you sure about this? I mean you and Jack have been together practically since preschool, do you really want to end that all because of some stupid trash talk? I mean you know he didn't mean it right? I mean she's his lab partner in science, he knows her name." I rambled trying to process what was happening. She shook her head and said,
"It's not just that, we've been... drifting lately, it's like he's never really there even when we're right next to each other." I pursed my lips and sighed, I couldn't help but think This is my fault.... I mean if I hadn't told her then maybe..... I trailed off as guilt built up inside me.
"Still I can't believe you dumped him through text... I mean that's kinda low." I intoned feeling kinda bad for pointing it out as a sad expression painted itself on her face. I patted her back in an apology as she looked down at the floor of the locker room.
"If I had just gone to him and said it I don't think I'd have been able to keep my nerve. It's weird but even though we're not as close as we used to be, and maybe we don't love each other like we did I still care about him." She explained sad wistfulness filling her voice. I looked down feeling guilty and responsible for their breakup.
(Time skip)
I walked in the door only to be met by my parents. My mom had her arms crossed and my dad wore a neutral scowl on his face. Oh no.... What now? I groaned internally as I looked at their disapproving expressions.
"Well young lady, I believe you owe us an explanation as to why you turned down our neighbor's kind invitation without saying anything to us first?" My mother asked sternly. I sighed and explained to them,
"Jack seemed like he was expecting an immediate response and we're usually busy so I just thought it'd be safest to assume. Besides if his parents wanted to ask you then they shouldn't have had Jack ask me." They shared a look, one that I found incredibly worrying, before looking back at me and smiling. I gulped as my dad crossed his arms and shot me a reproachful scowl.
"Well you're right we," he gestured between himself and my mom. "are busy on Sunday. You however are officially grounded so you'll be free to go for us." Every drop of blood drained from my face. You have got to be kidding me...
