22. As I Lay Dying

Aria laid in her and Caroline's shared bed and stared at the ceiling above, after John's funeral Aria had officially moved in with Caroline and Liz, staying at the Gilbert house bought Aria nothing but pain, and she was tried of being in pain, now that Klaus had broken his curse, Aria really hopes things will turn back to normal, well what was considered normal in this world full of supernatural creatures.

"Get out" Aria heard Caroline.

"Caroline please, I need to speak to Aria, it's important" Aria heard Stefan.

"No, after everything you did, you have some guts thinking I'm going to let you near Aria" Caroline snapped.

Aria sighed and got out of bed, though Aria had no desire to talk to Stefan, she needed to make sure Caroline didn't stake him in her anger.

"What are you doing her Stefan?" Aria asked, walking over to the duo.

"Probably here to hurt you again" Caroline snapped, glaring at Stefan.

Stefan sighed, "I'm here to apologise Aria".

"I don't want to hear it Stefan" Aria said.

"Aria please" Stefan pleaded, "I know feeding you my blood was wrong".

"Yes it was" Caroline snapped.

"I know after everything I did I don't deserve your forgiveness, but I still need to ask for it" Stefan said.

"You have to give me some time Stefan" Aria said, "You can't just screw up every time and except me to just forgive you, it doesn't work like that".

"Right, I understand" Stefan whispered, "Take all the time you need".

"Right, now that's clear please leave" Caroline said.

"Actually, there's something else, I need to tell you both" Stefan said, "Damon told me not to tell you Aria, but you deserve to know".

"What?" Aria asked confused, suddenly feeling scared, it had to be something serious otherwise Damon would never hide something from Aria.

"When Damon rescued Tyler and Caroline from Klaus, Tyler ended up biting him" Stefan revealed, shocking both the girls.

"No" Caroline said, shaking her head, while Aria stood there in shock, "Damon said he was fine, he said that Tyler missed him".

"He lied to you Caroline" Stefan said, "He didn't want you or Aria to worry".

"No" Aria whispered, tears pooling in her eyes, "No this can't be happening, he can't die, he promised he won't leave me, no, no, no".

Stefan looked at Aria in sympathy, "I'm sorry Aria, but don't worry we will find a way, we always find a way".

Aria wiped that tears that spilled, "I need to see him, I need to be with him".

Caroline nodded, "Let's go".

Caroline and Aria ran into the Boarding House to see Damon standing infront of the window, with his daylight ring off, killing himself through sunlight.

"Damon!" Aria yelled, she quickly used her magic and threw Damon on to the floor while Caroline quickly closed the curtains.

Aria ran over to Damon and helped him stand, "What were you doing Damon?!".

"Let me guess, Stefan told you both" Damon said, seeing both the girls look at him with extremely worried looks.

"Yes he did" Aria cried, "I can't believe you weren't going to tell me".

"You've already lost so many people Aria, I didn't want you to suffer anymore" Damon said.

"You're not dying Damon" Aria snapped, "I'm not going to let you die".

"We both know what happened to Rose, Ria" Damon said.

"I couldn't save Rose, but I'm going to save you" Aria said, determination shown clearly in her voice.

"Thank you" Damon whispered, cupping Aria's face, "Thank you for loving me, thank you for being the best part of me, I'm glad I get to die loving an incredible women like you".

"No" Aria cried, hugging Damon, "I can't lose you Damon, not you, there has to be a way, there's always a way, and I'm going to find it, I'm going to save you, I promise I will".

Damon didn't say anything, just tightened his grip around Aria, if he was going to die today, he was glad his last moments were with the girl he loves.

"What are we going to do Aria?" Caroline asked, both the girls staring at a weak Damon, who was now laying on his bed, asleep.

"I don't know" Aria whispered, "But I do know where I can find my answers".

"Where?" Caroline asked confused.

"The witches house" Aria replied.

"No" Caroline said, "Aria, Amelia Mom told you to never return there again, the witches will hurt you".

"I don't care" Aria said, "Care, I can't let him die".

"Yeah I get that Aria, but how are you sure the witches will give you the answers?" Caroline asked.

"Care, there are about a hundred witches there, someone needs to know something" Aria said.

"Fine, but I'm coming with you" Caroline said.

"You can't" Aria said, "You need to stay here with Damon, make sure he doesn't do anything stupid".

"Aria I'm not letting you go there alone" Caroline snapped.

"You have to Care" Aria snapped back, "Please, Damon needs someone to stay with him, and I need you to be here while I go find a way to save his life".

"What if you get hurt?" Caroline asked.

"I will be fine Care, I will come back, I promise" Aria replied.

"This doesn't feel right, I have this very bad feeling in my heart Aria" Caroline said.

"I will return Caroline" Aria promised, "I have to come back to the guy I love and my sister".

"Aria and Caroline promise?" Caroline asked, still very apprehensive of letting Aria go alone.

"Aria and Caroline promise" Aria assured.

Aria stood outside the witches house, the last time she came her, she had lost her mother once again, she just hoped somehow or the other maybe her mother was still in there, maybe she will help her save the guy she loves.

"Aria".

Aria looked behind her to see Stefan walking towards her, "What are you doing here?".

"Caroline didn't want you to be alone, and as much as she didn't want to call me, she had to as she couldn't call anyone else" Stefan explained.

"I'll be fine Stefan, you don't need to babysit me" Aria said.

"Caroline didn't say much about the last time you guys were here, but she did say the witches wanted to harm you Aria, are you sure you want to go in there?" Stefan asked.

"This is the only way I can think of to save Damon's life" Aria replied,

Stefan sighed, "Fine, then me and you both are going in there".

"Stefan--".

"Aria, either you let me go in with you, or none of us go, choice is yours" Stefan interrupted.

Aria sigh, she knew the more time she wasted in arguing with Stefan, the more closer Damon got to death, so Aria just nodded, and with that the duo entered the witches house.

As soon as Aria entered the witches house, she felt a chill run down her spine, this wasn't like the last time she came here, something was different, but Aria didn't know what.

"Mom!?" Aria called out, making Stefan look at her in confusion, "Mom? Mom, if your still here then please talk to me, your daughter needs your help, I need your help to save the guy I love, you said that me and Damon are each other's happy ending, but his dying Mom and I need you to help me, please help me save him".

Aria looked around and waited for something to happen, but nothing happened, there was no sign of her Mom anywhere.

Suddenly, Aria fell to the floor, clutching her head in pain, "Aah!" Aria yelled.

"Aria!" Stefan yelled, kneeling down to Aria, "Aria, what's happening?!".

"The witches don't want me here" Aria cried.

"Then we need to leave, now" Stefan said.

"No" Aria cried, "I need to know how to save Damon's life".

"Aria--".

"Please!" Aria yelled, the pain increasing, "Please just tell me how to save Damon, please just help me!".

Instead of giving Aria getting her answers, her pain increased, and black veins started forming on her hand and started travelling up her arm.

"Aria, we need to get out of here!" Stefan yelled, worried out of his mind for the girl infront of her.

"Please!" Aria begged, tears streaming down her face, "Please help me!".

Suddenly the veins around Aria's arms disappeared along with the pain in her head.

"You should have listened to your mother Aria, you should have never returned".

"Grams?" Aria asked shocked.

"Hello, my child" Sheila Bennet said, giving Aria a small smile.

"Grams" Aria cried in happiness, "Your here".

"You didn't think I was going to let these witches kill my favorite student, did you?" Sheila asked.

"Kill?" Stefan asked shocked, "Why do these witches want to kill Aria?".

"That's a story for another day Stefan, right now you need to take Aria and get out of here, I won't be able to hold these witches for long" Sheila said.

"Grams, Damon is dying, I need to know how to save him" Aria said, "Please, if you know how to save Damon, then please tell me, please Grams".

"Klaus" Sheila said, shocking Aria and Stefan, "Go to Klaus, you will find your answers there".

Aria smiled at Sheila, "Thank you so much".

"Go save the guy you love Aria" Sheila said, "And don't come back, next time I won't be able to save you".

Aria nodded, "I understand, but it was good to see you again Grams".

"It was good to see you too Aria" Sheila said, giving Aria a small smile, "Now go!".

Aria nodded, and with that both Stefan and Aria ran out of the witches house.

"Klaus?" Caroline asked Aria through the phone, as Aria and Stefan climbed up the stairs towards Alaric's apartment.

"Yeah, Grams told me Klaus is the answer to saving Damon" Aria explained.

"You actually saw Grams?" Caroline asked.

"Yeah" Aria whispered, "She saved my life".

"I told you not to go there Aria" Caroline said, the thought of her best friend nearly dying, hurting her.

"If I didn't go there then I would have never found out about Klaus being the answer to Damon staying alive" Aria said.

Caroline sighed, "Yeah, yeah".

"How is he?" Aria asked suddenly.

"His getting worse Aria" Caroline whispered, looking at Damon in worry.

"I'll be there soon" Aria promised, "Just take care of him".

"Hurry back" Caroline said.

"You ready?" Stefan asked Aria after she had hanged up.

Aria nodded, "I'm not the one who should be ready Stefan, you tried to kill him, not me".

Without hearing Stefan's reply, Aria used her magic to slam open Alaric's door, shocking Katherine who was still compelled by Klaus to stay trapped in the apartment.

"Hello, Katherine" Stefan greeted.

"Two days, I've been waiting" Katherine snapped, "I'm supposed to be free of Klaus' compulsion by now, he's supposed to be dead".

Stefan glanced at Aria, knowing her deal with Elijah ended up saving Klaus's life, "We ran into complications".

"What he means is that, I didn't let them kill Klaus" Aria said, giving Katherine a mock smile, "Now, where's Klaus and Elijah?".

Suddenly Katherine grabbed Stefan and shoved him to the wall, confusing both Stefan and Aria but before they could say anything, the front door opened, and in came Klaus and Elijah.

"Klaus, you're back" Katherine said, "Look who decided to come for a visit".

Klaus and Elijah looked at Aria, and both men gave her a smile.

"You just keep popping up, don't you?" Klaus asked Stefan.

"Klaus, I need you help" Aria said, before Stefan could say anything.

"With what?" Klaus asked, frowning seeing Aria's worried face.

"Damon got bit by a werewolf, I went to the witches house and they said that you can help me, please help me" Aria pleaded.

"You don't need to plead with me Ari, I will always help you" Klaus said, giving the young witch a small smile, "But before that, I have an obligation to my brother, that requires my immediate attention".

"You understand how important family is or you wouldn't be here" Elijah told Stefan, "My brother gave me his word that he would reunite me with my own".

"And so I shall" Klaus said, before Elijah could realise what was happening, Klaus had daggered him.

"No!" Aria yelled, running towards Elijah but before she could reach him, Klaus grabbed her, "Let go of me Klaus! Why would you dagger him!".

"It was necessary Ari" Klaus said, regret forming in his hear for daggering Elijah infront of Aria.

"Please explain to me how daggering your family, your own blood is necessary, you dickhead!" Aria snapped.

Katherine looked between Aria and Klaus, she fully excepted Klaus to hurt Aria for speaking to him like that, what she didn't know was that hurting Aria, is the last thing any of the Mikaelson's will do.

Klaus sighed, he really wanted to explain to Aria why he did what he did, but he couldn't with Katherine and Stefan in the same room as them.

"Ari, I need you trust me on this, okay?" Klaus said, "I will tell you everything, I just need you to trust me".

"Klaus, I went against everyone to make sure you were kept alive, but if you do stuff like this, then how can you ask me to trust you?" Aria asked.

"I don't except you to understand right now" Klaus replied, "But you will, and till then, all I ask is for you to know that what I'm doing is necessary, but I promise when the times right I will undagger him, I will undagger all of them and reunite you with your real family".

Aria sighed, "Promise me, you will undagger them before this year ends".

"Ari--".

"Klaus, promise me, or I can't trust you" Aria said.

Klaus sighed, "Fine, I promise to undagger my family before this year ends, happy?".

Aria simply nodded, making Klaus smile.

Klaus then turned to Stefan, who was shocked seeing the amount of hold Aria had on Klaus, hold even she didn't realise she had.

Klaus speeded over to Stefan and shoved him against the wall, "Now, what am I gonna do with you?", Klaus shoved a stake into Stefan's stomach, "Do you feel that? It's scraping against your heart, the slightest little movement and you're dead".

"Klaus, just wait" Aria said, "His here with me, we both just want to save Damon".

"After what he did to you, you still want him alive?" Klaus asked, confusing Aria, "Elijah told me how he forced you to drink his blood, something you didn't tell me".

"I didn't think it was important" Aria whispered.

"Of course it was important" Klaus snapped, "If your boyfriend hadn't found another way, you were going to come back as a vampire, a life none of us want for you".

"But I'm not" Aria said, "I'm human, you don't need to hurt him for me".

"The witches said you had a cure" Stefan breathed out, "Make me a deal, just give me the cure and I'll do whatever you want".

Klaus removed the stake from Stefan's chest and walked over to the counter, pouring himself a blood bag, "Trouble is I don't know if you'd be any good to me, the way you are now, you're just shy of useless".

"Then make me a deal" Aria said, "I'll do whatever you want, I'll go wherever you want, just please save Damon Klaus, please".

Klaus looked at Aria and smiled.

Klaus kneeled infront of Stefan, a cup of blood in his hand, "I heard about this one vampire, crazy bloke, always on and off the wagon for decades, when he was off, he was magnificent, 1977, he went into Monterey and wiped out an entire migrant village, a true ripper, sound familiar?".

"I haven't been that way in a very long time" Stefan said.

"Well, that's the vampire I can make a deal with" Klaus said, "That is the kind of talent, that I can use when I leave this town".

"You're leaving town?" Aria asked shocked.

"Don't worry Ari, I would have never left without saying goodbye" Klaus said, "Now, Katerina come here".

Katherine walked over to Klaus, and placed her hand into his, and suddenly Klaus bit her.

"No" Katherine cried, looking at the bite in shock, "No, no, no", Aria smirked, Katherine deserved this, she deserved much worse.

Klaus then bit into his own wrist and fed Katherine his blood, both Aria and Stefan watched in shock as Klaus's blood healed Katherine's bite.

"You want your cure?" Klaus asked, "There it is".

"Your blood is the cure" Aria whispered shocked.

"Gotta love Mother Nature" Klaus said, "Now, let's talk, us three".

Klaus sliced his hand and let his blood spill into the bottle.

"There it is" Klaus said, "You both wanna save your brother and lover? How about a decade-long bender?".

"You want me to leave Mystic Falls with you?" Aria asked shocked, her heart hurting with the thought of leaving Damon and Caroline.

"I waited a thousand years for you Ari, and I just want to spend a few months with you" Klaus said, "While Stefan does a decade long bender, you just need to stay with me for three months, after three months, you can come back to your friends here in Mystic Falls".

Aria looked at the cure in Klaus's hand, then at Klaus, if saving Damon's life meant she had to leave Mystic Falls with Klaus, then she would gladly do that.

"Fine" Aria said, "I'll leave town with you, just give me the cure for Damon".

Klaus smiled hearing Aria, he then turned to Stefan, "What about you? You know I have big plans for you, when we leave this town".

"I'm not like that anymore" Stefan replied.

"Well, that's too bad" Klaus said, "You would have made a hell of a wingman".

Klaus started to spill his blood into the sink, making Aria panic, "No Klaus, please" Aria pleaded.

"Wait" Stefan said, stopping Klaus.

"Now, that's more like it" Klaus said, "I want you to join me for a drink", Klaus slid a blood bag over to Stefan.

Stefan glared at Klaus, then took a sip out of the blood bag.

"Finish it, all of it" Klaus said, "You do everything I say and I save your brother, that's the deal".

After much hesitation, Stefan drank the blood bag, Klaus sild another one to him.

"Again" Klaus said, making Aria look at Stefan in worry, knowing all to well what human blood did to him last time.

Once again Stefan finished the blood bag in seconds, making Klaus smirk.

Caroline placed another wet towel over Damon's head.

"Get out of here Caroline, I could hurt you" Damon breathed out.

"I'm a vampire Damon, I can take care of myself" Caroline said, wiping the sweat from Damon's face.

"Where's Ria?" Damon asked, wanting to see the girl he loves one last time.

"She's making sure you survive" Caroline replied, worry rising in her heart for Aria, who she hadn't heard from in a few hours.

"Make sure she doesn't do anything stupid" Damon whispered.

"That's your job Damon" Caroline said, tears welling in her eyes, "Me and Aria do stupid things and your the one who bails us out".

"Why are you here Caroline?" Damon asked.

"Many reasons" Caroline replied, "One of them being that I promised Aria, the other one being, you've kind of grown on me Damon Salvatore, and if you die, I know Aria would be devastated, but I think I would be too".

"Why?" Damon asked, "After everything I did, why would you be upset?".

"Because that was in the past Damon, and you even apologised for it" Caroline replied, "I don't have any reason to be mad at you".

"Take care of Aria and yourself Caroline" Damon whispered.

"No" Caroline cried, "Have faith in your love, she will save you, just like you always save her".

Aria looked at Stefan with tears in her eyes, Aria had lost count over how many blood bags Klaus had made Stefan drank, and with every blood bag he drank, Aria could see the Stefan she knew disappear and being replaced with a Stefan that scared her immensely.

"You're very cooperative" Klaus told Stefan, "It's almost as if you're enjoying it".

"Stop" Aria said, "He won't drink anymore until you give us the cure for Damon".

"Not until we make a deal, it's both of your choice" Klaus said.

"I already told you, I accept your deal" Aria snapped.

"You did, but Stefan didn't" Klaus said, turning to the younger Salvatore, who was sitting on the floor surrounded by empty blood bags, "You can either remain here living your life in Mystic Falls, or you can embrace what you truly are, leave town with me and Ari and save you brother's life".

Stefan snatched the blood bag from Klaus's hand and drank it in a almost animalistic way, agreeing with Klaus's deal.

"That's the spirit" Klaus said smirking, he turned to Katherine, who was watching Stefan with a concerned look on her face, "Sweetheart, take this over to Damon and come right back".

"You want me to leave?" Katherine asked.

"No!" Stefan and Aria yelled simultaneously, both knowing that Katherine was on vervain, that Stefan had given her.

"Yes" Klaus replied, "And if I were you--", before Klaus could finish his sentence, Katherine grabbed the bottle of blood and speeded out of the apartment, "--I'd hurry".

"She'll never take it to him" Stefan said, looking at Klaus in shock.

"She will" Aria said, refusing to believe Damon was going to die because of Katherine, "She has to".

"This is even more pitiful than I thought" Damon whispered.

"Aria's coming Damon, just hold on" Caroline said.

"I really want to see her one last time, I want to tell how much I love her, one last time" Damon said, "Can you tell her? Tell her, that I love her, that I will always love her".

"You're going to tell her that yourself Damon" Caroline cried, who would have ever thought that one day Caroline Forbes would cry over Damon Salvatore dying.

"You know, I've made a lot of choices that have gotten me here" Damon said, "I deserve this, I deserve to die".

"No" Caroline said, "Yeah, you've done horrible things Damon, but you've also done good things".

"It's okay Blondie" Damon whispered, "Because if I'd have chosen differently, I wouldn't have met Aria, the love of my life, and I wouldn't have met you, my favorite blonde frenemy".

Caroline let a out a laugh, tears still steaming down her face, "If it helps, you are also my favorite frenemy".

"I'm your only frenemy" Damon said, in an attempt to lighten the mood.

"Yeah" Caroline cried, "You are, so don't you dare die on me Salvatore".

"Be happy Caroline, you deserve to be happy" Damon said, "And make sure Aria gets the happiness she deserves".

"I will" Caroline whispered.

"If I could go back in time, I would make sure not to hurt you" Damon said.

"It's okay Damon, I forgave you a long time ago" Caroline said.

"Thank you" Damon whispered.

"You're welcome" Caroline whispered.

"Well, it's me you should be thanking" Katherine said, entering Damon's room, "I mean, I'm the one who brought the cure".

"Where's Aria?" Caroline asked, as Katherine walked over to Damon, but she ignored her.

"You got free" Damon realised.

"Yep, finally" Katherine said, helping Damon drink Klaus's blood.

"And you still came here?" Damon asked.

Katherine hesitated, "This is my way of saying I'm sorry for Natalie".

"You didn't answer my question" Caroline snapped, "Where's Aria?".

"She's paying for this, her and Stefan gave themselves over to Klaus" Katherine revealed, shocking Damon and Caroline, "I wouldn't except them anytime soon".

"What the hell do you mean gave themselves over?" Caroline asked.

"They just scarified everything to save Damon" Katherine replied.

Caroline and Damon looked at each other in shock, both of them shocked with Katherine's information.

"I suppose brother, you've been reunited with our family" Klaus told Elijah, closing his casket, "Put him with the others, we're leaving town tonight".

Aria stopped writing her letters when her phone vibrated, it was a message from Caroline, informing her that Damon was okay, and asking where she was. Aria breathed a sigh of relief when she realised Katherine had reached Damon on time.

"Did Katerina make it in time?" Klaus asked.

"Yeah" Aria whispered, "She did".

"What are you writing?" Klaus asked, picking up one of Aria's letters.

"Goodbye letters" Aria replied, "Figured it would be rude to leave without a goodbye".

"Do you want someone to deliver the letters for you?" Klaus asked.

"No it's okay, I'll just use my magic to deliver them" Aria replied, making Klaus nod.

"You realise, you won't be seeing Katherine again" Stefan said, interrupting Klaus and Aria.

"Because she's on vervain?" Klaus said, shocking Stefan and Aria.

"You knew?" Aria asked.

"I've been around a long time Ari, I rarely get played for a fool" Klaus replied, "Besides, she won't get far, Stefan will help me see to that".

"What is it you really want from me and Aria?" Stefan asked.

"I waited for Ari for a long time Stefan, I just want to spend some time with her before I undagger my family and they take her away, specially Kol" Klaus said, "And you? That will be explained in time, once we leave this tragic little town".

"Then are we done here?" Stefan asked, "Can we go?".

"Not quite" Klaus replied, "You see, I have a gift for you, come here sweetheart, don't be afraid", Aria and Stefan turned around to see a terrified girl walking towards them, "See, I wanna make sure you honor our deal, that you'll be of use to me", Klaus bit into the girl's neck, causing Aria to look away, she knew exactly what was coming and she'd rather not see it, "I could have compelled her to behave, but a real ripper, enjoys the hunt", Klaus let go of the girl, she ran as fast as she could.

Before the girl could get anywhere, Stefan speeded over to her, and sunk his teeth into her neck.

"Now we can go" Klaus said.

Please don't be mad at me for leaving you, I know I promised to be there, and I will keep up to that promise, I needed to leave for now Jer, but no matter what, I will return, till then try not to die, okay?

Take care of yourself and take care of Elena, tell her I won't let Stefan let go of his humanity, I will make sure the guy she loves returns to her.

If you couldn't tell, I've left town with Klaus and Stefan, I had to, but it would have been rude to leave without a goodbye, so this is my way of saying goodbye, but don't worry it's not forever, I will return, Mystic Falls is my home, and you always have to come back home.

God, I didn't realise how hard it is to say goodbye to you. In my whole life, you were the one person I knew I would never have to say goodbye to, but here we are, me writing this goodbye letter to you.

Dear Vampy,

First things first, don't blame yourself for me leaving this town with Klaus, it wasn't your fault, it was my decision and if I had to do it again, I would do it in a heartbeat, want to know why? Because it would mean you would be alive. I refuse to live in a world where Damon Salvatore doesn't live in, you are my everything, and I would die just to make sure you live, so leaving town was nothing.

Damon walked down the stairs and into the Salvatore's living room, to see Caroline, Jeremy and Alaric sitting there, with the letters Aria wrote them in each of their hand.

"So, whose ready to bring Ria back home?" Damon asked.

"No matter what happens, I'm bringing my sister home" Caroline replied.

"And I'm bringing my daughter home" Alaric said.

"Aria's the only one who really understood me, I need to bring her home" Jeremy said.

"Great" Damon said, determination shown clearly in his eyes, "Let's bring Ria home then".

Holy shit..., I'm officially done with Season 2, can you believe it? Cause I can't.

Before I start on season 3, I wanted to know what did you guys think about this season? Did you guys like it or not? What would you change about this season? What would you add?

For season 3, what are you guys excepting? What are you guys not excepting?

Also, as you saw Elena wasn't in this chapter, her and Damon never kissed, because screw that! Instead we got a emotional scene between Caroline and Damon, that is foreshadowing on the type of relationship Caroline and Damon are going to have in season 3, I am so excited for that!

Also, Liz didn't shot Jeremy, he didn't die, yet.
