School has resumed again and everybody is back. Even Rhoda’s mum has been back weeks before.
Rhoda tried going to contact Bessie but frequently and consistently met a brick wall.
“Rhoda’s POV”
Since school has resumed, I think Bessie should consider the fact that it’s long distance between her school and mine and at least talk to me if not join back the severed line of our friendship. In minutes I’m on my way out of the hostel as on Tuesdays I have only one lecture and I can forfeit that for the sake of our friendship.
As I get to the entrance of her hostel, I’m really scared to knock as I know that Bessie can and undo.
I know she can’t shout at me in public but the things she has been doing nowadays, I never can tell she might have changed already.
“Hey Bessie” I call out as I gather courage simultaneously knocking the door.
“Who’s that?” she replies from side and as soon as she sees me, she just slams the door in my face.
Immediately, I wished that I hadn’t come here in the first place “we were probably not meant to be friends any way” I thought as I made to leave but intend to see Richard before leaving.
At the same time, I see Kira passing in front of Bessie’s hostel.
“Hey Rhoda, it’s been a very long time” she says as she runs to hug me”
“Hey Kira, you haven’t really changed that much” I say to her “sure, why would I change? So what are you doing here?”
“Well Bessie resides here, so I came to visit her”.
“Wow Rhodie, that’s nice, I never knew though, let me say hi to her then.
“I don’t think that’s the best option actually, let’s just leave, you will see her some other time. So what are you doing here?”
“This is my school”
“Oh, that’s really great”
“Thanks Rhoda, I heard you are in Crystal University, we really do have things to talk about”
“Oh, like what then?”
“Plenty things, dearie”
“Where were you going to before?”
“To the school canteen”
“Is it a date or what? If I may ask”
“Not really, I eat there every time as I don’t cook by myself”
“That amazing, so you go there every time?”
“Sure, if you don’t mind, we can go there together”
“No problem”
We move to the school canteen together and settle down for a meal.
“So what’s up with you and Bessie now”
“Nothing really” I quickly said without a second thought but really what’s there to hide, it’s not like I was really having set with her boyfriend. So I don’t really think I need to hide things here. Moreover, I and Kira used to be friends earlier”
“Actually we are fighting, like a quarrel”
“What could have caused the “quarrel” “it’s a long story Kira”
“Explain Rhoda, we’ve got the whole time in the world or are you going somewhere?”
“Actually I’m free today so I’m not going anywhere and even if I leave here late, I can always stay overnight at Richard’s house” I see her wince as I say that. It’s like she’s still got feelings for Richard, I hope it’s safe for the both of them to be in the same school.
“Oh, I almost forgot that your boyfriend stays here as well”
“So go on, I’m listening” she adds again.
I explained everything to her starting from where I was lonely at home during the holidays to when I called Bessie and she told me that she was busy to when I called Collins and he told me that he was on his way.
I also didn’t leave out the part where Bessie later called that she was on her way and I decided to surprise her by not telling her about her boyfriend’s presence at my abode. I saw her face squeeze at that time though obviously in disapproval of my action. It’s not like it can be reversed anyway.
I continue telling her about how I was dressing up when Collins was in the sitting room and probably out of impatience, he decided to come and join me. I really couldn’t explain to her what made him do what he did because I myself had no idea, she then looked at me like she pitied me, she looked frightened when I told her that he came to join me one the bed, she probably thought that she succeeded already but when I told her that Bessie came in and met him on the of me.
She looked relieved and at the same time, said that Bessie didn’t trust me enough to believe that I couldn’t do something like that when I finished explaining everything to her, I was already near to tears.
“You know what Rhoda, your only fault in this situation on ground is you not telling Bessie that her boyfriend Collins was at your house at that time. I really think that’s your only fault”.
“Yes Kira, I know that not I’m wrong in that aspect but I was just over trusting. Moreover, I did not expect Col to attempt that kind of things. Please don’t make me look more guilty than I already feel”
“But Rhoda, we really have to face the fact here, no matter what so as to know the solution to the matter”
“But Kira, what exactly do you think I can do”
“I think you should just give her little time to calm down at least to listen toyour explanation.
“Thank you Kira”
“You are welcome buddy, I’ll always be here for you, anytime, any day”
“Thanks so much Kira” I say as I hug her with tears glistening in my eyes.

“Hey sweetheart” I say to Richard as I barge into his room, I wonder why he always forgets to lock his door. He was only in boxer briefs backing the door.
“What the………” he said in shock but couldn’t complete the statement as he turned and the shock on his face turned into happiness as he pulled me into a warm embrace.
“Why didn’t you tell me that you were coming?”
“I knew that you were gonna be free today so I decided to take that opportunity to surprise you”
“Wow, I’m so flattered”
“Actually, the main reason for coming is to meet with Bessie to apologize” I say and his face falls a bit”
“So you can’t surprise me or what?” I laugh before replying “of course not, it’s just that for now that’s not it”.
“Okay then have you two settled you disputes then?” my face falls in sadness as I reply “No, she slammed the door in my face again, but I guess it’s getting better now as before she used to abuse me before shutting the door in my face”
“I guess I’ll need to intervene now, I’ll need to go and face Collins”
“No Richard, don’t do that, if you do that, it might result in a fight”
“It’s really annoying, if I can’t defend you then who will” His saying this made me smile a little.
I look into his eyes before answering
“It’s okay Richie, I’ll deal with it myself. Thanks a lot dear, I really appropriate your efforts”
“If you say so then but if you need any help, I’ll always be there for you”
“Thanks dear” I say as I hug him.
“And I’m staying overnight” I whisper into his ears
“No problem sweetheart, you are always welcome here” he whispered back.
“I love you Richard”
“I love you more Rhodie”
