He isn't normally like this. No, Jeon Jungkook has never been the type to daydream. Yet here he is in the midst of his usual choreo session with BigHit's latest rookies and he can't focus. Every thought swirling in his brain is clouded.

Clouded by Kim Taehyung, and it's infuriating. Infuriating because as much fun as Jungkook has been having teasing and playing around with his boss that's all that it is... teasing..fun.

So why can't he get the man out of his mind? Coincidentally, just whenever he needs a distraction is whenever she makes an appearance--fucking, fantastic. Except this distraction?? is much worse than the thoughts he already had.

"Awww bun, what's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost?" Jia coos as she enters the dance space. All of the rookies immediately stopping and clearing out.

"Why are you here? Shouldn't you be in America somewhere?" he rolls his eyes, making over towards his bag when he hears foot steps behind him and a soft hand on his neck.

"C'mon, don't act like you haven't missed me. What's it been almost two years? I've missed you, bun" she winks and he feels shivers take over his body but not the good kind. The kind that make your skin crawl and itch and you desperately feel the need to shower.

"Honestly, I liked you much better over there, then I'm not forced to remember what a raging bitch you are." he removes her hands from his shoulders and steps away, pulling out his phone as she continues telling him all kinds of things he doesn't care about.

Having stopped listening the moment he picked up his phone, he didn't hear her mention her new job. Far too busy in his phone, because Taehyung texted him.

Asking for him.

In the office.

At 7 p.m. on a Thursday night.

"Sorry, Jia. Gotta go, see ya around I guess" he shrugs and hurries to his car.

Taehyung is a mess, an absolute cluster fuck of all things messy--okay, maybe that's an exaggeration but that's how he feels right now. Twirling in his office chair, having asked Jungkook to visit. Why? Doesn't have a damn clue.

No good reason for doing so, wasn't expecting him to say yes but he did. He's on his way and now? Taehyung is sure to make an absolute fool of himself. He hears a few knocks on the door and knows the only other person present in the building wouldn't knock so he straightens up.

"Good evening Taehyungie" Jungkook squeaks playfully and Taehyung already regrets his decision.

"So this is a thing now I guess?" the man smirks and Jungkook shrugs "What do you need boss? Some late night reporting or a late night coffee run?"

Taehyung sits for a second, "how about some late night company?? I know, I'm sorry it was weird of me to ask but I have to finish these revisions for the special edition that drops Monday morning and normally Jimin would stay to keep me from being alone here late at night bu--" stops his rambling when he feels Jungkook slide a chair up next to his.

"Y'don't gotta explain yourself, my class finished up anyway. Let's get it! What are we revising?" he smiles and Taehyung thinks maybe, just maybe, he won't be such a horrible assistant after all.

~

Surprisingly enough to both of them, the hours flew by quite easily. The revisions took all of two hours if that yet here they are, nearly 5 hours later in the midst of a very intense discussion over the upcoming season of Boku No Hero.

"Can't believe the Editor in Chief of the Bangtan Bomb is a fucking weeb" Jungkook cracks out through his laughter and Taehyung pouts

"How rude to disrespect our kind like that--as if you aren't one yourself" sliding out from behind his desk and reaching for his jacket, trying not to make eye contact with Jungkook who is staring at him...some type of way

"Thanks again, Jungkook-ah, for coming. It gets eerie in this big ole building by yourself at night, so I appreciate the company and sorry for keeping you so long." he smiles and Jungkook uses both hands to straighten out the wrinkled sleeves of Taehyung's jacket.

"No worries, Taehyungie. Anytime you need these muscles to protect you, I'm here" he winks, playfully flexing his arms and Taehyung has to look away to keep from laughing ridiculously. The walk to the car is just as playful, Jungkook teasing Taehyung about his tough boss persona and the said tough-guy defending himself to the best of his ability.

Though Taehyung can't seem to put up a good argument when he keeps getting lost in bright brown eyes.

"If you're late tomorrow, I won't be upset" he smiles shyly, but Jungkook just raises a thumb with a bright grin "wouldn't dream of it, chief"

and Taehyung is even more of a mess than he was to begin with.

Jungkook is attentive. Always has been in life. His attentiveness has earned him many things and he's about to put it to good use again. Seeing as he knows, for a fact, Taehyung got little sleep last night.

He can only imagine how much of a rampage the man is going to be on if anyone fucks up anything today. With the special edition, award season special, of Bangtan Bomb releasing Monday--Jungkook already has a feeling how today is going to go.

Which is exactly why he is at Starbucks forty minutes before his shift starts...simply being a diligent employee. Picks up the coffee that's more sugar than anything else--he heads straight for BB's headquarters, hoping he beats Taehyung there.

Luckily for him and his plans he does. Slides into the editing department and one by one visits each desk, placing a post-it note that reads

Mr. Kim will be unavailable for the entirety of the day. All questions, concerns or complaints should be directed to Assistant Jeon.

Fighting!

Proud of himself for being ahead of the game and still ten minutes before Taehyung and the employees arrive--he goes to visit his best friend who's car he noticed out front.

"Joooooooon!" He shouts as soon as he sees the man standing over the Kieurig in the break room.

"Kooks, what are you doing here so early?" he quirks a questioning brow but Jungkook just waves a hand, nonchalantly "trying to save the staff from getting their asses handed to them today"

"What do you mean?"

"Just have a strong incling that Taehyungie is going to be more than irritable today--trying to avoid any screaming matches or unnecessary firings"

Namjoon smirks, for more reasons than one, "and how do you intend to do that?"

"left all of editing notes to contact me with any problems or questions, that way I can decide if it's worth getting Taehyung worked up or not"

and the way he speaks so casually, as if it's the most normal thing in the world for an assistant to the Editor in Chief to arrive to work early on a Friday just for the sake of fielding all of his bosses work to himself is normal, what any assistant would do.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you actually give a shit about your boss" he smiles, knowingly but Jungkook, the ever cool and collected guy that he is, just shakes his head

"Nah, but it's a Friday and I'd like to start my weekend off without a raging migraine--catch ya later Joonie!" he fist bumps his best friend and heads towards Taehyung's office, extra large coffee in hand.

~

Call him crazy but if Taehyung didn't know any better, he'd think that his office was empty. Hasn't had a single person approach him yet for the day and he's so thankful. So thankful because he's just not in the fucking mood.

Jungkook hasn't even decided to pick on him today, which he is ever grateful for, even if he finds himself missing the other's presence lingering over his shoulder. Finally a soft knock is heard and he straightens up immediately, expected his noisy assistant to come in but is instead met with a tall brunette, wearing a shit eating grin.

"Kim Taehyung, it's such a pleasure to finally meet you" she asks and he raises a brow "and you are? how did you get in my office?"

"Ah, you have really shitty reception staff--should probably get that fixed, sir." she walks over to extend a hand "Park Jia, newly hired assistant to the Editor in Chief of The Seoul Harold"

He felt his teeth grit the moment she spoke the tabloids name, but quickly composes himself whenever he see's a familiar body approaching from behind her. "Jia, what the fuck are you doing here?!" Jungkook scolds and her eyes widen when she see's him

"Bun, what are YOU doing here?" she retorts and he rolls his eyes, continuing his walk to Taehyung's desk until he places the takeout box down, "Seeing as this is my boss's office, I think you're in no place to ask me any questions"

"Oh, this is marvelous." she cackles, "always thought you'd do well in this field Bun, maybe if you decided sooner it would've been us that went to America together, hmm?" she purred and Taehyung noticed the way Jungkook's hands balled up into fists.

"Get the fuck out, you have no business here. We have enough shit to handle today without your nonsense" he bites. Taehyung watching in amazement as Jungkook completely takes over the conversation.

"Down doggie, I'm not here to attack your big boss don't worry--just came to introduce myself. you guys will be hearing of me" she smiles, twisting on her heels to walk away.

As soon as she does, Jungkook turns around to look at Taehyung with a sorry expression written all over his face "I did my best to keep you from getting worked up today, I'm sorry I didn't see her come in" he says, voice laced with disappointment and Taehyung's eyes widen

"What do you mean, did your best, what did you do?" he asks causing Jungkook to sputter over his words, but quickly recovering with a smug grin "the fact that you don't know means I did it right, Taehyungie. Don't worry I'll let reception know that Park Jia has no privileges inside this building for the entirety of ever." Taehyung giggles, tried his best not to but Jungkook's somewhat protective??? nature is so endearing and it's the last thing he needs to add to the pile of reasons why he wants to marry him what? no--ha that's crazy.

Taehyung is about to speak again, whenever he feels Jungkook strolling behind him just like he did the other day--just like he's been doing often, and start massaging his shoulders. The guy's hyungs were right, he really does give the best damn massages and it's so unfair. Unfair the way Taehyung is complete putty in this man's hands and he's not even know him for a month.

"What's with the nickname she gave you?" Taehyung asks, quietly--nervously, "you guys know each other well?" he feels Jungkook pause for a moment before coughing and continuing

"If dating someone for 3 years and living together is considered knowing each other well than yeah--but we broke up two years ago, her and one of my close friends ran off to join some magazine in the states. Left me in the dust" he spoke bitterly, didn't notice the way Taehyung leaned his head back to watch his facial expressions as he spoke

"Well she's a fucking moron" Taehyung spoke without hesitation and caused Jungkook to laugh "that's for damn sure, who would walk away from these magic hands?" squeezes Taehyung's shoulders a few times playfully before patting the sleeves of his suit again and walking over to the couch.

"I'm well over it though, honestly--she fucking sucked as a girlfriend anyway, I was more hurt by losing my friend than I was her." he smiled and Taehyung, for some reason, actually believed him.

"Call me selfish, but I'm glad it was him and not you. Because I'd have an assistant who doesn't give good massages and I'd have been all by myself last night" watches as Jungkook's face lights up and the man throws his head back in laughter

"I feel so used, luckily you pay me well Taehyungie!" he shouts

and Taehyung realizes that the mess in his head isn't getting cleaned up anytime soon.
