track 9 :: vegas skies | the cab
She was up early, as usual. It was only 6 am when she walked into the empty coffee shop so it was quite easy to choose a comfortable spot to where she could study comfortably. That was where she stayed, undisturbed for the next three hours.
Her caramel macchiato had gone cold in the time-being, not that she noticed much of a difference. Her eyes were glued to the highlighted words in her textbook, scanning each and every line repeatedly until they were carved into her brain. She had taken down notes already and she was in the process of revising them as well as committing them to memory.
At least, that had been what she was in the middle of when the familiar scent of coffee drifted towards her, strong enough that she realized that it was close. She looked up, not even surprised that Wonwoo had joined her.
"You seem rather busy. I was already sitting here while I waited for my coffee. You've only just noticed."
She shrugged. "Studying. Re-writing notes. Being productive," were her short answers as she shifted her attention back to her books. She was about to uncap her pen when it was ripped away from her fingers. Looking up, she frowned at Wonwoo. "Rude," she commented. "You should be studying, too, you know. Our majors might be different but it doesn't mean the effort put into studying should differ."
Wonwoo shrugged, setting the pen down but out of her reach. "You do know that studying two hours a day can have the same results as studying eight hours a day, right?"
"I don't see your point," she said, a little miffed as she reached out to take her pen. He kept rolling it out of her reach. She let out a huff and gave up after three attempts.
"Do you really want to spend the whole day here? What do you do for fun?"
"I don't have time for that," she answered with a sigh.
He raised an eyebrow. "You don't have time, or you don't want to make time for it?"
"Why does it matter? I have to study," she said, abandoning her pen and instead deciding to just read the textbook. The book was also pulled out of her line of sight and she shot him a glare.
"Wanna get out of here? Just for today, I swear," Wonwoo said, closing her book and setting it down on the table. She didn't try to take it from him so he continued his proposal. "Just one day. We'll do something fun. You study in advance already, so you have nothing to lose."
So-eun was surprised to find that she was actually contemplating on the idea. She was nodding before she even realized she had made a final decision. A smile crept onto Wonwoo's lips, and she couldn't help her own smile from forming.
"Where do you suggest we go?"
He sat quietly for a moment, thinking, before his features lit up in. "Are you alright with a KTX ride to Busan?"
"You're kidding, right?"
"What's wrong with Busan?" he asked, frowning.
"Nothing. It's just... too far," she said. She hoped her expression didn't give anything away. As much as she would have liked to forget some things, it was almost impossible to avoid some memories.
"But it'll be fun." He looked like a puppy with that look on his face. She just couldn't say no.
With a sigh, she gave in. "I'll just head home first and grab some money."
"Yes!" he cheered to himself and took a celebratory sip of his coffee. "I'll finish this first, then we can head out."
"You're going to follow me home?"
He shrugged. "Don't think of it like that. I'll just... walk with you. Yeah. That's it."
"You're not going to need to grab anything at your own house?" She looked at him incredulously. He couldn't have brought enough money to pay for a ticket.
"Already have everything I need," he announced proudly. It dawned on her that he had had all of it planned already. She wasn't sure if she should have been impressed with it, or annoyed that he assumed that he could get her to go to Busan with him.
After a quick stop to the empty house--her parents were at work and, as usual, her sister was nowhere in sight--they hopped into a cab to the train station. Despite the sporadic nature of their trip, the journey went on smoothly and soon enough they were outside with the cool breeze that blew across one of Busan's beaches. Seagulls flew by, looking comfortable especially when there was a lack of a large crowd in the area.
While Wonwoo was at ease, looking excited to run through the sand and rush to the water, So-eun frowned at the realization that she was not properly dressed for the occasion. She wore ripped skinny jeans and a camisole over her navy blue tank top. Her white converse were new, too. She hadn't really thought things through when she rushed out of the house earlier. He was dressed more casually, and she realized just how far he had planned for the day. Rather than the casual rubber shes he had paired with his khaki shorts and graphic tee, he had on a pair of slippers now. She figured he had a whole set of clothes in his backpack.
"You look so prepared," she finally commented, gesturing to his feet then to the backpack.
He shot her a smile and shrugged. "I was already planning on taking a trip today, but I saw you and thought I didn't want to be alone. That's why I asked." He dropped his backpack to their feet and kicked off his slippers. She frowned but dropped her own bag to the ground.
She could feel her cheeks heat up, but brushed it off as some sort of anomaly in the atmosphere or something. "Ahh. Is that so?" She watched his features, noticing the slight tint of red on his cheeks. She didn't bring it up.
"So, what do we do now?" she asked instead.
His eyes glinted with mischief, his mouth curved into a cheeky smile. Without another word, he lifted her up and carried her bridal style.
"Yah! Put me down!" she yelled, put her words fell on deaf ears as he ran to the water. Realizing his intentions, she screamed for him to put her down. He did, but not the way she wanted him to.
She closed her eyes just as she felt the cold rush of water surrounding her. It's wasn't too deep where he dropped her, the water only reaching her waist when she stood up, but she was completely soaked.
"Sorry," he tried to tell her, but was met with a splash of water directly to his face. She laughed at his surprise, feeling her anger drain as he retaliated.
Never mind that she had no change of clothes for later. This day had been the most fun she had had in a long time, and she was not going to ruin it for herself.

a/n: whoa! BTS at the BBMAs!!! wahhhh im so proud of them and for us armys who were able to get them there :)
I was going to make this chapter longer and add more details of them getting closer/having fun, but I just can't wait to get started on the next chapter. It might get a little heavy or serious or whatever, and I'm so excited to get writing. spoiler alert: i go into more detail on her relationship with her ex, and i try to justify why the description/blurb of this story is the "broken boy meets broken girl" kind of thing...
On another note, something more serious, a lot has happened this week. I can't put into words how scared, worried, and sad I am about the events. I'm not a fan of Ariana but I am a fan of music. Concerts are supposed to be the escape from the scary realities and difficulties. It's sad how one amazing night for many fans were ruined. And I'm from the Philippines, albeit I live far from where there terror is/was, and one of my friends live somewhere in Mindanao. Thankfully, she's not from the place. I can't imagine how I would react to have a loved one being caught in the crossfire.
It's a scary world we live in. Like Namjoon said, we need to love more and hate less. Maybe then all this madness would end. I may think the human race, as a species, is kinda shitty (especially with all the crap we make the earth go through) but it doesn't mean I want the human population to just go *poof*. I mean, there's still time to improve and find solutions for our mistakes and our ancestors' mistakes. I want to think positive and say we can change the world. (and yes, i just sang the lyrics to the RM x Wale collab in my head)
Sorry for the long a/n. I just needed to get this off my chest. I haven't really spoken to anyone about what I thought of these issues yet, so I hope you guys understand.
