Chapter 1
Arya moves around the people, weaving her way through the busy streets of New York, her blonde hair swinging behind her. A college graduate from NYC, lucky to get there of course, she was walking to her usual café haunt.
Arya slipped into a coffee shop called Mocha Michelles and went to the counter. After getting a coffee infused with hazelnut and 1 sugar, she sat at a table by the wall. Pulling out her laptop, she laid it in the table, sipping the brew, connecting to the WiFi. The door opening let in the cool autumn air and she was grateful for the coffee to warm her. Arya opened her search engine and started searching for available jobs in her area. With her mom and her barely able to scrape by, she had to find something. Her speech and debate scholarship was the only thing that had even gotten her two years of college.
Suddenly she had the feeling of being watched. Her greenish gray eyes roamed the Café and landed on a young man. He looked to be in his early twenties, short black hair, gray business suit, phone to his ear as he sipped his coffee in the corner. But his eyes were on her. Arya looked away from the intimidating green eyes, back to the screen. Her dirty blonde hair covered her slightly pointed face, making a curtain between them.
Peeking through the curtain, she saw that the man had vanished. But her view was blocked by gray. She looked up, and saw the man that had been staring at her.
"Hello." He said, his voice revealing a British lilt.
"Um, hey." She said, scrunching her nose to push up her black framed glasses, accent betraying her southern heritage. The man tilted his head.
"Do you, perhaps, want a job?" He asked. She looked back at her computer.
"How did you-?" She started.
"I saw the screen."
"Oh."
"Here." He said, handing her a card. She looked at it, bewildered for a moment before taking it. She looked at it closer then. It was black, uniform, containing a demanding white text.
Graham inc.
1-800-245-776
Luke Graham, CEO
"Um, what-?"
"Come to the address on the back if you want the job. Just tell the lady upfront you are looking for Luke. Show her the card. She will understand." He said, then left, typing away on his smartphone. Arya was very surprised at this turn of events.
"OK then." She muttered, getting up finishing her coffee. She walked out, examining the card.
