What inspired you to write this book?

Honestly, it was relentless boredom and homesickness that led to the creation of this idea. As an international student studying abroad at the time, I cooked up the mind map on this story in my junior year of college during the infamous pandemic before leaving it to rot in my hard drive for four years..

What was the inspiration behind the main character and their love interest?

The two idiots in love, Mindy and Chess, are based off of me in different phases in my life. Mindelyn is a sample of my overly-anxious but sassy self in my explorative and curious stage in my early college years and Chester is an embodiment of later years where I was the confidant go-getter during the day and a hyper-competitive troublemaker with a slick mouth when the sun set. I have always wanted to mix both eras in my life because I felt that they somewhat complemented one another — and my story was born!

What sparked your interest in writing, and how did you end up writing on Wattpad?

Bless the 'Just Write It' team and Wattpad HQ for the 8 Chapter Challenge, because it was only when I took interest in that competition that I remembered I had the dusty skeleton of this story in the basement. I had always been a reader, but I decided to take my chance at writing – and it's a fun challenge!

Do you have a favorite scene in your story? If so, what makes it special to you?

My favorite scene is Chester and Mindy's first intimate night. It was so imperfect and realistic but wholesome and sexy. My readers also really resonated with this scene as well and felt that and I feel like that was what made it.

How do you create and develop your characters? Do you base them on real people, or are they entirely fictional?

Just like the main lovers, the other characters are based on real people. However, no character is solely inspired by one individual; rather, they are created from a blend of different people.

Do you have any favorite romance authors, on or off Wattpad, who inspired you to write romance stories? Feel free to name up to three people and some of your favorite stories they authored.

Hands down, Me Before You, by Jojo Meyes gives me light. I love how well balanced her humor and quirks were in serious moments, and with the seamless and realistic chemistry and character interactions and dialogue, there was never a dull moment. It's an emotional masterpiece I love reading and losing my soul to once every two years.
