Chapter 3: Birth of a Warrior

Luke stood up, arms and legs shaking. He had stopped crying by now. "Rest easy, father... '' Luke's eyes rested on a Katana in a case, gifted to Jaire by his close friend Orion Sureiya, a Trained Ninja from Japan. Luke used the AK to break the glass. He carefully lifted the Sword from the shelf, pulling the sword out of its sheath. Luke saw his reflection in the blade. "Okasa Mozgov... '' Luke looked at his father's blood on his paws. "...On my father's grave, I will kill you for what you've done." He drew two lines below his eyes with the blood. Luke put the katana back in the sheath, taking it with him. He went upstairs to his and Rico's room. His brother was looking out the window at the EMT's and Police arriving. "Hey. What's this about?" Rico asked. Luke didn't look at him. "Father's dead. We need to go."

It took a while for Rico to process this. "He's dead? Like Actually dead?" Luke nodded. "Uh... I'm not too sure how to react right now..." Rico picked up his things, ready to head out. "Easy. We live on our own and go find whoever sent these guys to kidnap us... the guys who killed our father... They must pay for what the fuck they've done." Luke said with a cold, angry tone. Rico glanced at Luke. "A-are you alright dude? This isn't like you..."

Their conversation was halted by the sound of First responders rushing in the house. Paramedics tended to Danilo's shoulder injury, EMT's tried to save Arthur, but he died a few minutes after they arrived, and Jaire was pronounced dead on arrival. Luke and Rico were taken to the hospital with Danilo. No one was suspecting that they were carrying weapons in their bags. At the hospital, they learned Danilo had been a soldier in the U.S. army before he was told by Paine that the Surren were fighting for a better cause.

"That's what he told me, boys." Danilo sighed. "I didn't sign up for kidnapping and murder. Tristan told me that he looked to cleanse our justice system and corrupt government, and I don't fucking know what part of me believed him, but I joined... I regret every second I've worn this damn uniform..." He looked down, clawing at the Surren logo on the uniform.

"It's Ok, Danny. We understand you were just following orders." Rico sighed. Luke just stood against the wall with his eyes shut.

A knock came on the door. A Braixen dressed like a businesswoman walked in. She adjusted her glasses before speaking to Rico. "Hello, little guy. I understand you might be a bit confused right now..." she talked down to Rico, who sharply responded to her. "My brother and I aren't dumb kids. You can talk to us like normal pokemon, ma'am." He smiled.

The Braixen laughed. "Well, then. I'll give it to you straight then." She cleared her throat and adjusted her glasses again. "I'm here from the CPS..."

Danilo gulped. With how Luke had been acting, He knew this wouldn't end well. He and Rico knew that acronym...

"Child Protective Services? What would you want with us?" Rico asked, giving an innocent smile. The CSP Braixen responded with A serious look. "You're a smart kid. Take your best guess."

"That Logo on your sleeve..." Luke pointed out. The Braixen quickly covered a flag-shape on her shoulder. "Nothing to worry about, hon..." Rico pulled her arm away, giving Danilo and Luke a clear view. "You're with the Surren!" Danni yelled accusingly. Luke stepped back, the veil feeling heavier in his bag.

"Unfortunately, yes. These children were our targets to begin with, Agent Russo. Ah, yes, we know you never really quit the CIA. We were aware that you were the one leaking our plans back to HQ! Now, sadly, I have to kill you and take the children, and there's..." She drew a handgun, but something Luke was holding caught her eye. "Are you after THIS?!" Luke held the empty veil, its contents now in a syringe that Luke was holding a few inches above his forearm.

The Braixen carefully set the gun down. "L-listen kid... if you do this, you could die!" Luke smiled hysterically. "Oh? You know the risks then? Please... Go on." The Braixen slowly stepped forward. With each step, Luke put the syringe ever so closer to making contact with his arm. The Surren agent was listing all of the risks that injection of the liquid could cause; "Increased hyperactivity, High risk of dementia, possibility of heart failure..." and more.

Luke plunged the needle into his arm. "It's a price I'll pay if it means I get to kick your ass!" He pressed down on the pump, injecting the liquid into his bloodstream. The Braixen quickly spoke into a communication device. "Target is potentially lethal! Proceed with..." Before she could finish, Luke's katana went in through her gut and came out through her back. Luke smiled sadistically as he pulled the blood-covered sword back through the body.
He picked up the communication device. "Send an army if you wish..." His eye color had changed from the friendly lime green everyone was used to, to a dark shade of gold. "...in my eyes you're sending anyone who has a death wish. And boy, I'm feeling generous enough today to grant them. Every. Last. One." He crushed the com and cleaned his katana on the Braixen's shirt. He turned his head to his brother. "Rico, stay with Agent Russo. And Danilo... watch my brother, Ok? I can't stay here, but I'll be in contact... Take care, brother." Luke held his arm out to Rico, who smiled and grabbed his Brother's paw. "I'll do what I can to help you, Luke. It's what brothers do." Rico's comment made Luke smile. "I appreciate it. Nice to know someone's not gonna ride my ass for this." Luke responded, which got a laugh out of Rico.

Luke grabbed his things and ran out of the room. He could hear his heart pounding as he ran. He saw a group of large pokemon blocking the exit.

"Great. Just fucking great..." Luke muttered. He looked around and saw an open surgery room. "There's my chance..." He ran for the door. Before Luke could fully be hidden by the door, one guard spotted his tail out of the corner of his eye. "Hey, what're you doing in there?" the guard signaled for his fellow troops to follow him. Luke counted five in all. He set his stuff down and looked around the room. All the surgery tools and equipment was there... morphine, syringes, scalpels, you name it.

Seeing this equipment, Luke closed his eyes, remembering something from about a year prior. He was training with his father, and in front of him was a butterknife, a piece of a lead pipe, and an empty bottle of champagne. "Luke, remember this; if you're ever surrounded, use your surroundings to your advantage. Anything can be a weapon. Use it to defend yourself." And the memory ended.

Luke opened his eyes and thought to himself, "you wanna try and take me in? You'll have to bring in my dead body!" He walked to the table and picked up some of the smaller things, readying himself for whatever the troops were going to do.

Meanwhile, outside the room, the troops were positioned outside the door, guns aimed at the doorway. "He can't stay in there forever!" One soldier said with a chuckle. The Soldier next to him smacked him on the head. "You Dumbass! We can't stay out here forever either!" The other three seemed to agree with the Second soldier. "I say we go in there and take him by force. We're soldiers in the strongest army in the world! Some kid can't stop the Surren!" Soldier #2 declared while walking through the door. As the three others followed, the first soldier was trying to plead his case. "Idiots! He's the son of Agent Jamison, He could be a trained assassin already! Ugh... why do I always think so negatively?... After all, it's not like he can kill all of us. He's only a kid!" The first soldier finally gave in and walked in the Surgery room. Little did they know that this was the dumbest mistake they could have ever made.
