CODE 74 Quit
It had been two days. All work, no sleep, and still Axel was working on Asselyum. The floor was covered with bolts and huge machines. Axel realised that Asselyum's body had a fourth-dimensional space inside it. They could fit a whole bed inside her if they wanted to. He recovered four huge computers out of her even though there were stencils of six computers.
The heat plates were gone, her CPU had no chips inside it anymore. Axel kept the screwdriver aside and washed his face in the bathroom.
"How is it going?" Slaine asked. Axel turned towards him,
"Someone touched her."
"What do you mean?" Jimmy asked.
"Many parts are missing, the others are damaged," Axel explained.
"So, you can't fix her?"
"I'm sorry," Axel said, "I'm just not good enough,"
"So, we only have Valorie with us now. And he can't even fight anymore," Jimmy said.
That night, Jimmy and Slaine sat in the living room, drinking and looking at the dark night clouds. Slaine rolled a cigarette,
"Yo, are you doing weed?" Jimmy laughed.
"I just don't wanna think about anything for a while," He said as he smoked the cigarette, "Its okay to lose yourself sometimes,"
Jimmy picked up his can between his thumb and middle finger, "You know, you gotta train your mind to be stronger than your emotions, otherwise you're gonna lose yourself everytime,"
"But I really liked her. And it all ended so abruptly," Slaine chuckled, "Oh damn, what is that sexuality again? When you're attracted to robots?"
"You're high, give that to me,"
"No, no, no, listen here, listen to me," Slaine rubbed his nose.
"Put that down first–"
Slaine threw away the cigarette and removed his sweater and sweatshirt.
"Yo, what the fuck are you doing–" Jimmy kept his can down and ran after Slaine who stood at the glass window and jumped unto the pool.
"IT'S JANUARY! WHAT THE FUCK–YOU'LL DIE FROM HYPOTHERMIA!" Jimmy shouted as he rolled his trousers up and tossed his shoes aside. He walked into the pool.
"Slaine,"
Slaine floated on the water like leisuring cattle in mid summer.
"Come out, you're high!" Jimmy held his hand. Slaine looked at the sky, "Can someone please realise that I'm not okay?"
Jimmy looked at him, "What the fuck are you saying?"
"I slap on a smile and try to act normal but I just don't feel right. Why can't I have a best friend that actually realises that I'm off? I feel like everyone has a best friend that they can go to when they aren't feeling good but me. When I reach out, noone is there. They are only my friend when I'm okay. They are not there when I need them to be. It sounds stupid but you know its true.
I am never okay anymore.
I thought I was over Asselyum but nah. I still like her, maybe even more than I like myself. And you know that, you know how I feel, I bet you've noticed it and you still have the audacity to take me for blind dates and act normal,"
"Well, what the fuck should I do then? Become as sad as you, giving you false hope about something that might never even happen?"
"I never asked you to do anything! Just let me be!"
"And then hear you cry that you're alone and have no friends?!"
"BECAUSE I AM!"
"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT ME TO DO THEN?! WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS?!"
"BECAUSE I HAVE NO TRUE FRIENDS!"
"Then, what am I?" Jimmy asked.
"Just a dumb, blonde, spoiled rich kid I met because of Asselyum,"
"YOU ARE FUCKING OBSESSED OVER SOMEOBE WHO DOESNT GIVE TWO FUCKS ABOUT YOU!"
The clouds rumbled and it began raining.
"...I'm so disappointed that I'm not even mad anymore," Jimmy said. Meanwhile, Evelyn sat in his room, cleaning his grip tape. He heard the raindrops hitting his window plane. At first, he didn't pay much attention to them, but slowly their intensity grew.
They began making a loud noise, as if a person was banging his window. He got up and moved away from the window. The window broke and the rainwater came towards him. He shrieked.
"What was that?" Jimmy turned back. Slaine got out of the pool and ran towards Evelyn's room.
"Wait–Weren't you high? And put some clothes on!" Jimmy shouted as he ran behind him with a towel. But before Slaine could reach Evelyn's room, the door broke down and water gushed out of his room.
Slaine and Jimmy were hit by the high pressure waves and went down with the water. They both landed on the first floor. Jimmy got up and held a wall followed by Slaine. Axel floated on the water, "What the hell is happening?!"
Jimmy got into another room and picked Valorie into his arms, "QUICK! TURN ON ALL THE DRAINS OF THE HOUSE!" He yelled. Axel picked up Asselyum on his back, all her screws and bolts got flushed down with the water.
"But what about Evelyn–"
"SHUT UP AND DO AS I SAY!"
Slaine ran towards the basement and pulled out the drain notch. A small whirlpool formed around the drain. Slaine quickly swam out of it while all the water began sinking. Jimmy walked out of the house with valorie on back while slaine ran inside to look for Evelyn.
"Evelyn–"
Evelyn was floating in the air, his eyes shining bright green, the water surrounding him and revolving around him like a huge wave. The roof breaking down.
Slaine held the wall as he looked at Evelyn. Evelyn pressed him palms together and the waves crashed into each other, finally it stopped raining and the water calmed down. But half of their house was gone.
Evelyn sat on his knees. Slaine, Axel and Jimmy stared at him. He turned towards slaine, "I did not do that, it happened itself. I swear to God I–..." Evelyn stopped as a small water wave began rising up to his knees.
"I'm a monster,"
"No, Evelyn," Slaine walked towards him. Evelyn looked at Slaine, "Stop right there, dad,"
Slaine stopped at once. Evelyn looked at him.
"You know what I think,
I think you regret choosing me. Because you obviously still like Asselyum."
'Damn, he hit the nail,' Jimmy thought.
"Filial love can never win over romance. You have been sad for a while now, you think I do not notice, I do. I know what's been going on but I decided to remain quiet, thinking that it would get better with time but it just doesn't.
Isn't it crazy? Isn't it crazy how we put so much effort into one person who doesn't show the same energy? It hurts, it really does. You just keep lying to yourself hoping it will get better but in reality, it's just getting worse. You're getting tired of it but you just keep trying knowing you're gonna hurt yourself more the day they leave." Evelyn's voice began to crack, but he was smiling like always.
"With you, I have realised that sometimes, sometimes you can just never be good enough. Relationships are worth fighting for, but sometimes you can't be the only one fighting. At times, people need to fight for you. And if they don't, you just move on and realise what you gave to them was more than what they were willing to give you.
Congratulations Slaine, you have Asselyum now. I am leaving,
You keep on hurting me and now the pain is seeping right through my heart. I hate you!
I quit"
"Evelyn-"
A huge water wall appeared in front of Eveyln which surrounded him and rose up in the sky. With the water, he flew like a true prince of water,
"EVELYN, EVEYN! NO! DON'T GO!" Slaine cried as he ran after Evelyn but the later just disappeared into the clouds, "EVELYN!"
'I'm sorry, dad. I lied. But I am only gonna hurt you from here. I do not know what is wrong with me, and before I find out what is, I can't risk your life with mine. I'm doing all this to myself.
You deserve happiness.
So I left.
