CODE 48 I

Slaine lay on his bed, with the first volume beside him. He didn't have the courage to read it yet. He looked outside, at the dark sky.

"I want to go home," He looked at the clouds, "Home..."

"I too want a family and a place I could call home."

"I can't give you family but I think I can give you a place you could call home. Just rely on me."

"Look what you've done...You've made me rely on you,"
He remembered some memories with Asselyum, Lupin writing everything he wanted to speak, Jimmy training meticulously, Axel acting like the most mature among them, Lucifer's narcissistic talk, MiK fighting Jimmy and Norman acting like Lupin's translator. He closed his eyes, "What should I do... I'm not ready to lose anyone of you."

'You know what to do.' Jimmy's voice ran across his mind and he turned towards the book. He picked it up and opened it.

"I am Evelyn. And this is a warning."

"What the hell am I doing?" He looked at the picture of that graveyard.

"This is my home. It's been around five hundred years since I've been there, five hundred years since I've come to Earth."

"Oh no... No, Evelyn." Slaine closed his eyes and clenched his teeth. He felt icky and creeped out. Evelyn was not from Earth--So, he brought that Antex infection with him! And he had been staying with Slaine.

"Earth is not a planet I would recommend visiting. Humans are different from us Kastrians, even though we look similar. However, they have hair on their skin and they can't breathe underwater. Unlike us, they spend most of their lives on land and they are physically much weaker.

But that's not all that makes us different. Humans are ready to sell each other for money, are lustful, greedy, needy, ferocious beasts of the dead, who find power in others pain, and a human would fall to any limits to reach what he wants.

And the saddest part is that after all these years, I feel more human too.

I came from Kelgester, a blue planet that is 80% water and 20% land. We spend our lives predominantly in the sea and the time moves slowly there. So, if I live for 50 years there, I can live for 5000 years here. That's how big of a lifespan difference we have. I came here to study humans, who might have some connection with us. Maybe we could be friends? Could we?

No, we can't.

Kastrians are innocent and pure breed, humans are not. Ever since I've come here, I've felt uneasy. People have looked at me in a way I didn't want. I was touched in ways I didn't want and treated as a mere object by the supposedly mature and adult humans.

I wanted to go back, but the sea swallowed my space shuttle and I couldn't find it an ocean so vast. I was stuck on this planet, stuck among the people I hated. Lived in places I wouldn't have seen on my planet. The hatred here was excruciating.

But I had to breathe.

Because I believed someday a help would come which never did. Because a hundred years here was like one year there. Before coming here, I studied about humans. I was so excited to meet them and talk to them. Of all the dreams I had, I was left abandoned on the streets by my own nation. You know what, it hurts. It hurts when the only thing you ever loved turns into everything you hate.

"Hey, do you board?"
"No?"
"Then, why are you at a skatepark?"
"Can only those who ride a vehicle be here?"

"Yeah, and boomers, haha. But you seem like a young fellow."
"He's a fucking kid, Slaine."
"Here, take my skateboard. This is like a pass to come here."

"But what about you?"
"I have plenty of those. You can keep it. But I have a condition."
'You want to kill some time too?'
"What is it?"

"You have to skate every day and beat me! I'm the best here. Deal?"

I looked into his eyes. He literally just wanted that? But me being the best won't give him anything in return, then why? Why would he do it?

Why would a human do something that doesn't benefit him?

"Deal." I smiled and I remembered lily of the valley. How those grow in garbage but bloom the prettiest.

"Aye Slaine! Riley is barking 'gain!"
"Comin' Denis!" He smiled and turned his back. It was you, dad.

And I never saw you again till the other five years but it was all worth the wait. When we met again, you were taller, smoking cigarettes on a different board. You seemed calm and mature unlike five years back. You were still wearing worn-out jeans and a dirty hoodie. You had many marks and band-aids on your face but I could still find you in the crowd."

"Wait--It's me, isn't it? But I never did cigarettes--Oh! A parallel reality, I didn't meet Asselyum in this. Well, let's see how this goes." Slaine said and continued reading.

"I decided that I was never leaving your side again and followed you everywhere you went. I learned a lot about you. Like how you had just come out of the prison because of a drug-dealing charge and murder. You seemed burdened.

I knew I was being one of your burdens but I wanted to be an asset you were investing in. I wanted you to be happy just like you made me happy. I brought back the love of skateboarding into you and you seemed to love the thrill.

I learned that it's easier to hurt humans than to make them happy.

Many of them are afraid to be too happy while others have already given upon it. Your eyes had a sadness I couldn't remove, even though you smiled. Staying happy is difficult and staying sad is easier. That's why they prefer to stay sad rather than pushing themselves and be happy. It's human nature to avoid effort.

You would rather abandon the things that make you put in the effort.

And those things can be people too.

One morning, I woke up and you were gone. The house was empty just like my soul. You ruined both of them and disappeared because you got tired and found someone better. As the sunlight struck the curtains, I stood into them. I was looking nowhere. I had come nowhere--What was I doing? Because I was back to where I was. Abandoned and alone.

I waited for you too. I waited for a century but you never came. I was so sick of being alone!

Did I ask for too much?

I just wanted you to stay! I never did or said anything bad to you. I did everything to make you happy--Everything! I didn't have the people I loved, so I made sure you did.

But then I realised--I was the problem, wasn't I?

It had got nothing to do with the deeds but the person who was doing them.

You noticed I wasn't human and I noticed we were both falling from a cliff. And I hurt the most when I landed and realised it was over. You never landed, you jumped out midway and let me take the fall.

At my planet, we live in houses that look like graveyards. But you, you lived in graveyards. Hey, why are humans so weak?

Why do they die so easily? They shouldn't. They can't. I won't let this happen to me again. So, I decided to do a little test. My blood and yours, that's all I needed.

I used your name to create this world that I own now. But for the world, you are dead so I need to kill you from inside me too but I won't. I won't let you rest in peace, I won't give you death until you beg me for it. Because I just wanted to believe that I was not going to be alone.

I didn't care how many people I was about to sacrifice for revenge. You're so proud of your race that you couldn't even bear staying beside me?Fine than, I will bring humanity to its knees and show you who is more disgusting. Me or them. And I don't care if people die--Because,

I didn't have the people I loved, why should others?"
