Chapter Eight: Deep In The Mines
In the elevator, Saori tuned in her tablet to the H.Q., to connect to General Bradley. It connected instantly.
"We made it, "said Saori, her face grey from the dust blown during the gunfight
"Good work, now listen up, Get through there and access the ladder leading up to the surface. Expect some resistance covering the tunnel, nothing like you guys can't handle I'm sure. There are two mini railways out there, use it to reach the ladder. watch out for cameras, they'll blow your cover. Our comms link won't work much deeper than this so you'll be on your own for a while. Just had some intel update, you'll need some special equipment in the mountains so I'm organizing an airdrop, hope you make it."
"wait, mountains?"Niki said, surprised but till then the connection had disconnected.
The entrance to the mine loomed ahead, its entrance daring the team to move forward. They exchanged determined glances, knowing that the challenges awaiting them within would test their strength.
As they ventured deeper into the abyss, the oppressive darkness enveloped them. The only source of light came from their headlamps, casting eerie shadows along the rough-hewn walls. Their mission was to infiltrate the mine's underground complex, where a rogue faction sought to use the abandoned facility for nefarious purposes.
Navigating the maze-like tunnels, Niki's instincts guided their path. They encountered several obstacles along the way—trapped corridors, crumbling infrastructure, and treacherous crevices—but they pressed on undeterred. Each step brought them closer to their objective.
Suddenly, the dim glow of their headlamps illuminated a group of armed guards up ahead. The enemy caught off guard, reacted with aggression. Gunfire erupted, echoing through the icy tunnels. Flenn, Niki, and Saori swiftly took cover, returning fire with calculated precision.
Niki's knife glinted in the pale light as she dispatched enemies in close-quarter combat, her agile movements a deadly dance. Mark's accurate sniper shots rang out, one after another, eliminating threats with efficiency. , Saori using her technical prowess, hacked into the enemy's communication systems, causing chaos and confusion.
The fight raged on, the adversaries attempting to protect the mine's secrets at all costs. Explosions rocked the tunnels as the team strategically placed charges, creating diversions and buying them precious seconds to advance.
As they fought their way deeper into the mine, a discovery awaited them. The enemy had rigged certain sections with tripwires and booby traps, desperate to defend their stronghold. Niki's sharp instincts saved them from triggering a deadly explosion, defusing the traps with steady hands and quick thinking.
Finally, they reached a massive steel door, guarded by heavily armed enemies. The tension hung in the air as Niki assessed the situation. With a silent nod, the team sprang into action. Niki unleashed a flurry of knife strikes, dispatching enemies with unmatched precision. Flenn's sniper rifle thundered, providing fire as they pushed forward. Saori, utilizing her technical expertise, hacked into the door's security system, bypassing its defenses.
The door swung open, revealing a vast underground railway system that looked never-ending. The ground quickly jumped into the electric carts, rushing before the enemy chased them, but they couldn't get too far as the enemy pursued the chase, not giving up easily. They soon came into the level as gun firing thundered in the once quiet shafts. Pistols and knives became lethal in combat. The Pursuers had begun losing the fight, with only one left. when he made a desperate move, one of the enemies jumped onto the Trio's cart. He made it.
He took out his knife and almost slashed Flenn's Neck and slash Niki's arm, but Niki was quick to end the combat and slashed his head, dividing his body into two.
They finally came to a halt in front of a ladder that looked like it went on forever, however, they had been trained for things like this. After climbing the entire ladder they jumped off the big chimney-like structure separating the ladder and the snow. They took a moment to catch their breath and looked around them the world looked like covered in white. It was a beautiful and pristine view that they wish they could keep adoring but they had no option but to go on.
