Chapter 6

On the other side of the city stood a man who was not really a man at all. If he were a man, he'd be a completely different person. Least that's what he thinks. What a man was is something he may never comprehend. Exactly how he might never understand how a place so beautiful and unique could be tampered with and war stricken by humans. That's what makes it confusing. Why were the Rangers fighting for a planet that can destroy itself in no time? It's like backing up a situation with facts that contradicts itself.

"Hmm," the villain hummed, "such a marvelous place."

He took the time to walk around. Since others were turning in, this was perfect for him...to have a little fun.

"But they waste such an amazing night," he realized as his head went from left to right, "oh well, guess I can't be blamed for whatever happens next."

Not feeling any regret what so ever, he almost immediately brought out a pack of foton balls. Tiny, miniscule spheres that pack a lot of power. He hadn't known when to use such a tool. That is, until everyone and everything was asleep.

"Now," he pondered, "what should go down first?"

His eyes wandered from building to building in hopes of nailing something worth millions. Stopping in the middle of the street, he saw a skyscraper like structure standing. A smirk reached his face.

"Target spotted." Kent spoke.

Grabbing a ball, he aimed and let the object hurl into the sky. His feet carried him away from the scene, trying to not be hit. A smart move indeed. That tiny little beed had the building collapsing down. After being at a good distance away from it, the alien could watch it crumble. Be reduced to ash and glass. The noise was uncanny, due to people around the area witnessing the action.

"What in the world!" A person yelled.

"I worked there!" Another voice chimed in, "now I don't have a job!"

"Wow," the alien reacted in amazement, "these are very useful. Time for a little bit of mischief."

The terrorist decided to go incognito. He traveled around the entire city, throwing those destructive spheres left, right, and center. One, two, three! Each bomb went off one after the other. It was a firework show on the ground. The night became entertainment for this guy. Daylight was far from coming, making it incredible that this was a chance for this place to be checked off the list.

Sleep was not something this teenage girl needed. No matter what the circumstances were. A night person was what she was. During the day was good and all, but the stars and moonlight suited better. Snores could be heard from upstairs. Her guess was that it came from the green and silver ranger. The girls stayed in the nearby room, not wanting to share with the boys. That was completely understandable. As much as she was warming up to the team, they are boys at the end of the day, all rules still apply.
Her place was on the balcony, peaceful and had a great view of the city. Her butt was on the edge of the handle top while her feet dangled, watching the night sky and just enjoying the atmosphere in general. The way that owls cooed and crickets chirped had her relaxed. Why people prefer to not be out at night had her puzzled. Besides the obvious chance of wild animals and occasional bats, what was so scary about it? It nearly felt like home, which was a place she hoped she would never have to go back to unless it was business. However, this was a good part about her childhood. A part she prayed would stay forever.

"Daytime not your thing?" The redhead didn't need to turn her head to know who was speaking. He was leaning in the doorway, his elbow supporting his body. He had a smile on his face, "I didn't expect you to be a night person," the teenage boy told her, "But then again, people can be full of surprises. I never thought I would be a hero, and yet, here we are."

The new girl pressed her lips together and nodded, "Here we are, and everything else is gone."

"What do you mean?" Her companion asked as he walked onto the balcony.

The warrior glanced at him, "Right now, everything and everyone are gone or inside. No one appreciates the night like they should." She explained to him, "I mean what, just because it's dark it's evil? There's something to...admire about the night. People should take it in and be out having fun rather than staying inside. Nobody gives it a chance."

The red ranger nodded., "I see your point." He replied, "I've never been a night person but, I do like it from time to time. Only reason why I don't party outside in the dark is because I had a run in with bear."

"A bear?" His associate chuckled a little, "Camping I'm guessing?"

"With my uncle Cameron yeah." Troy confirmed, "Back when I had at least a week with him. We both went camping with my other cousins and one of them led me into the woods. We thought it would be fun to see if we could get a snapshot of an animal and post it on Instagram. I didn't think we would actually find one."

The teenage girl giggled and inquires, "How'd you get out of that one?"

"Well my cousin JJ took the photo while the bear wasn't looking." Troy responded, "The flash caught its attention. We ran for our lives. I looked back and saw that it was chasing us. Thank god there were two trails. We cut the bear off and never went back."

Savannah nodded, "Lesson to be learned." She told him, "Never go camping with cousin JJ."

"Oh hell no, never again, unless he wants a stick up his ass." Troy joked. They both shared a chuckle at this, "Anyway, I never see my uncle anymore."

"Why not?" Savannah quizzed.

Sighing, the leader let his arms rest on the handle top. The redhead finally decided to look at him, "He's busy commanding soldiers who knows where." Troy says, "People think he only left two years ago because I told them that."

"Well when did he leave?" Savannah wondered.

"Before I was born." Troy answered, "First time I saw him was when I was four. His wife, Aunt Cadence, went with him. My parents weren't around a lot, so I was shifted to so many of my relatives places."

The fearless young lady bit her lip and processed what he was saying.

"I got used to it after I turned ten." Troy finishes, "That's when I knew I wasn't going to have a steady family."

Silence arose between them both. The blue eyed female did not react. Instead, she turned her body around and hopped off of the balcony handle top silently. Imitating his position, the two were now side by side. The introverted hero watched her.

"Well," The redhead pointed out, "at least you have more of a family now."

Troy shrugged, "True, but..."

"But what?" Savannah questioned.

The leader of the team shook his head, "I don't know. I've always known when something is too good to be true, it usually is and...I don't want it to be one of those times."

"I doubt it." His companion disagreed, "It seems like you're all close, but I see your point, it's not easy to just fit in when you're not as open." Troy gave her a look of surprise, to which she shrugs, "I pay attention to details. You're not exactly easy though."

Troy slightly chuckled, "Neither are you Vanni."

"Vanni?" Savannah catechized.

"If we're going to be friends, I have to have a nickname for you." Troy says, "Otherwise it won't be as fun."

Savannah turned her head away from him and looked back at the sky, "I..." She trailed off a little.

The red ranger became curious, "What?"

Vanni sighs and reveals to him, "I...don't make friends very well...or at all really. I stopped trying a long time ago. It just doesn't seem like it's worth it anymore."

The lone wolf started to smile again and he scoots closer to her. Both of their arms were touching lightly, making Savannah return his stare. His next few words resonate with her, "Maybe that's because you haven't met the right people."

Silence brews deeply afterwards. Your eyes are the windows into your soul as they say, but to be proven true is another story. Right or wrong, the moment could resemble as such. Neither one of them broke the gaze they shared. The wind blew softly, as did the new girl's hair, and passed by her face. Troy moves it away, which she was grateful for, and his hand rests on her cheek. Glancing back at it, Savannah removes it and heads the opposite way back up to the balcony handle. The leader watches her lean against the edge carefully and remains quiet, feeling somewhat disappointed.
Her back was to him and it had no intention of turning back. A noise ruins his chances of apologizing or saying anything else. Looking down, he saw that it was his morpher on high alert. Troy sighs as he gives Savannah one last look. He disappears to go and assist his teammates. An eyebrow goes up in suspicion. The exit is followed by a beeping sound filling her ears. She raises her wrist watch, or so it seems to the naked eye, to her eyes. Knowing what this meant, Savannah ran back into the house to grab her set of weapons.
