Chapter 6 - First Day Above

The sunlight was harsh.

"So that's the sun." Rico noted. It was a lot harsher than they all had originally thought. Upon the elevator reaching the full surface, the whole group was surprised to be surrounded by a lush, thick forrest. "I thought it was all wasteland..." Cairo, who always liked the idea of wildlife, was getting excited. After all, she'd always wondered what the pre-fallout world was like. "So the radioactive surface thing is a load of crap. Who knows how long it's been like this?" Jax used his claws to cut away some vines nearby. "Wait, Rico! If it's been like this all day today, that means... Luke's gotta be alive!" AJ (quite literally) jumped for joy, but his brother wasn't so outwardly optimistic. "I know Luke. And do you know what they called him when he fought all those mons down there? They called him the 'Ultimate Opportunist' for a reason. He does whatever it takes to survive and be the top dog. To the mons who Luke's never met, Luke's a viper waiting to strike. It's best if we don't search him out. That's not a suggestion, AJ. That's an order." Rico's demand made AJ groan, but the Bubbly Riolu didn't let that keep him down. He forgot about the less than happy feelings and went onto the next question he had.

"So, what did they call us again?" AJ asked, noting the strange symbol on the bags of the others. "Omega. Last letter in the Greek alphabet. They named the seven groups after greek letters." Justin noted. The Grovyle was particularily good at history and weapon making, no matter the material. "How long have you, Y'know, made weapons 'n shit?" AJ asked, his little cuss word at the end forcing a chuckle from Justin. "Aren't you like, 15?" "16!" AJ stamped his foot in the ground, which nonetheless looked kind of adorable. He had that kind of demenor that could change from Pouty Pre-teen to Combat master in the blink of an eye. Yes, he's kind of a goof, but he's also a badass who can back up his talk and thus, he chooses to be more carefree. That's what makes AJ Rhodes so hard to hate.

Evan was tinkering with some things that looked like earpieces. "Wait, how did you...?" Sasha looked shocked. Rico concluded that Evan took them from everyone's bag. "Communication devices. They thought that these would survive up here. I think I can fix them, but I won't
be able to keep all 20 functioning. Fixing just one of them might come at the cost of the parts of another one. So in essence, it's a risk we may need to take. But..." The Jolteon was good with electronics. Made sense, since he's an Electric type and all. He also just enjoyed tinkering. He's very A.D.D. Anywho, He was interuppted when Jax yelled "NEEEEEEEERD!". "Raymond! Show a little respect, He's trying to..." Justin snapped. The Scyther flew up to him. "Or else what, O'Reilly? What're you gonna do? I have type advantage, and I'm a better fighter than you anyways. If Bolt Breath over there wants to be a nerd, Let 'em! Besides, You're in no position to make threats. Up here, Weakness means death. In light of that, I'll say some nice words at your funeral." Jax was full-on in his face, and Jayce walked into the conversation, siding with the Scyther. "Yeah, I'm with Bug Boy. Ya ain't good f'r much, O'Reilly. Ya make quality shit and all ye ever did in de Underground was build yer shit and study history of th' pre-fallout world. I dunno if you realize this. We're in the real world here. Jax said he'd say nice things when you die. I'll be right there when he does, cause if you don't straighten out your shit, More of us're gonna die.

Justin grumbled, Pushing the Scyther, who attempted retaliaton, but Jayce held him back. "Le'it go, Raymond." Jax wasn't having any of it. "Why?! You should hate him too! The guy cares for no one but..." Jacye interjected. "I don't hate him. I respect his choice he made. I offered him to join and supply my rebel group, and he didn't. He made the smart choice. I repsect that." Jayce shrugged and let him go. "Kill him, and those of us who don't have the skill to use moves or have claws for hands, we're unarmed and thus, we're screwed." Jax scoffed and flew above the treeline. The group had found a circular opening in the trees, Perfect for "Setting up camp". "If we want to live, we need, and I mean, we NEED to have shelter of some sort." Rico announced to the group. No one bothered argue this. "First thing, We need someone to act as a leader. Not to control the Omega team, but to make sure we all can survive. Any volunteers?" Rico asked, expecting someone to step up. "You. Morrison. You led that Rebel group, right?" The Midnight Lycanroc nodded, asking why he was being asked. "Because you're the only one with any kind of Leadership experience." Rico grinned slightly. "You really want some criminal leader to..." Jayce began, but he was cut off. "You came closer to stopping the Council than anyone before. No one ever dared as to storm the main hall. You did. I have full confidence, and if anyone wants to survive, They'll follow you." Justin spoke up. Jayce stood puzzled by the statement. "You... Trust me?" Logan stepped in. The Midday Lycanroc, who had a slight british accent, voiced his opinion as well. "I didn't join the rebellion - Notice I said Rebellion, not Insurrection - because I didn't want the violence, but I Agreed with the ideals." Balor shrugged. "So it's settled. Jayce, You're the leader of Omega Team. So what're the ground rules?" Rico asked. Natalie spewed a little flame at Rico's feet. "We don't need 'Ground rules', Ricardo! How many of the other 6 groups do you think will make and abide by any kind of Rules? They're probably doing whatever the Hell they want! They survive off of whatever the hell they want to do! They will not, I repeat, WILL NOT care for any rules you make! Besides, you just appointed Jayce the 'Leader'. Alexis is my only leader." She snarled. "Ouch. Brutal Honesty." Jayce shrugged and smirked. "Cruz, stand down." Alexis said sternly. The Charizard grumbled as she lowered her head. "I follow whoever the appointed leader is. So I'll take orders from Jayce Morrison. If you five don't listen to him, I'll just repeat the orders for you so that you follow them." Alexis was definately unhappy with needing to be given orders, but moreso with Natalie's stubbornness. "You're not going to survive without being a part of this group." Alexis continued. Natalie snarled, "I don't need to hear this shit. I'm out!" she declared before spreading her wings and taking off. Rico sighed. "Great. Now the Winged Giant Lizard left." AJ sets down the big log he was carrying to make a barricade. "Isn't she a dragon?" Rico shook his head. "Technically, Charizards aren't dragons. Don't ask why, I'm not sure either." Rico shrugs.

"She can't go too far. One of her wings is still damaged. She won't make it more than a few miles." Sasha yawned, having just woken up when Morrison, O'Reilly, and Raymond had been fighting amongst each other. "Bloody idiots." Logan rolled his eyes, his slight accent becomming more apparent. Yes, Logan has a slight British accent. He just knows how to hide it if needed. "We're all gonna die if this is gonna be happening on the daily." Rico got back to moving logs with AJ. "Which is why We're building barricades." Justin glanced at the work the two had started, dismissing it at first, but then, doing a doubletake, he stared in shock at what they had started. The two had taken smaller, yet thicker fallen trees in the area and managed to tie some together, making about a 8 foot wall. "How the hell...?" Justin gawked. Rico smiled and laughed a little. "Bulk up does wonders when building things out of heavy materials. If there's anything I've been taught, It's how to use moves of the pre-destruction world. Our father made sure of that."

"We'll keep it up. You guys find something to do. Cara, take Brad and Kyrie. We were all given tents according to size, but obviously that won't work for someone like Natalie, due to her larger size. We'll need all those set up, maybe fix them up a bit so that more than one of us can fit, if needed. Some smaller shelters over them would be nice, because a little extra could mean avoiding soggy shelters. Plus, I think any tent-like structure should be able to have standing room, so I'm thinking..." Rico was trailing on before the Persian interrupted. "How about you leave that to me and keep muscling up that wall? Good housing is nothing without a good wall." Rico nods, going back to what he was previously doing. Jayce turned to the remainder of the group. "We need some of you to scout the territory, look for food & water sources, and we need at least one mon on nightshift if not more." He glared at Logan, who was obviously disposed to his counterpart. "Sorry, but some of us need to help here. We can't let three make shelters and a wall be built by two crazy strong, but still only 2 pokemon!" Jacye growled at him. "Last time I checked, You're not in charge here, Balor." Logan didn't flinch. "You always need to be told to take charge. Same for the revolt, same up on the surface. You never take the lead yourself. Word is you surrendured to the guards despite saying you'd rather be killed than be captured for rioting." Jayce tensed up, then turned and stormed off. "Got em." Logan smirked. "Raymond, Blair, Shane, Suriya, Leone, hunt for food or water sources. Em, stay and help Cara and the other two. Logan, O'Reilly, come help us with the barricade wall. Justin can cut down trees, and if you guys can, make some fallen objects in the way to the wall, so it's hard to get a numbers advantage on us without tripping and falling like idiots first. Cairo, you went to medical training school. Find anything you can that you could use for healing, we might need it. Maya, Nora, as the only other electric types, we need you to help Evan try to fix those comms. It's our only chance of splitting and knowing what's going on." Rico, sick of Morrison's lack of control, decided to dish out the orders.

After this, Rico marched over to find Jayce, who was facing a tree deep in the woods. "What's your deal, Morrison?!" Rico exclaimed, but was grossed out when Jayce suddenly turned his body slightly and yellow liquid sprayed to the side of the tree, barely missing Rico. "Fuck off, I'm busy!" Jayce said, infuriated. Rico took a few steps away and looked the other way while Jayce finished and zipped up his pants. "You ever heard of knocking?" Rico facepawed. "There's no door, dumbass." Jayce paused. "Coulda stepped on a twig or something!" Rico rolled his eyes. "Listen, if you think you can lead by fear or intimidation, you're damn wrong. These are not just willing rebels who will obey your every order. Leone, Davison, Blair, Cruz, Rios, and Martinez have all been together for at least 18 years. They knew each other since Childhood, and every one of them but Alexis was a foster child. They're not scared of you. Jaxson was the Leader of a Prison Mafia. He sure as hell doesn't fear you. Cairo, Shane, Em, Kiro, Logan... All of us who got sent up last minute? We don't fear you, hell we were only 13 when the riot happened. You're not feared by ANYONE. You wanna lead? You wanna survive? Lead by example!" Rico turned and walked off, leaving Jayce to ponder what he had said.

Rico returned to building the wall with the others. And while it may miss character development opportunities, Time passed where there was not many important things happening, aside from the wall being built and finished, complete with a gate. By the time the whole group was back together, it was now sunset. The Hunting group had found sources of food, mostly stuff grown on trees and plants for now, plus a few rivers nearby for water sources. Cairo managed to find some herbs that were once used to heal, although they tasted horrible, so she was going to try to find a way to fix that, with a little help from the two resident cooks, Kyrie and Brad. Emily and Cara, along with the two cooks, had set up some extra overhead shelter-like structures in case of rain. "Well, the bad news is, we might've needed to use one of the tents as collateral for making the overhead shelter, meaning there's only 19 available sleeping places... So either one of us doesn't sleep or two sleep in the same space." Cara told Rico and the others. "I mean... Is there any way to make this decision fairly?" Brad looked a bit worried. "I usually don't sleep. I can guard Emily if needed." Shane pitched in. "Or... I could share with someone?" Cairo sheepishly chimed in. "Oh. Oh... OOOOOOH, I see now!" AJ snickered, knowing what she meant. Rico gave AJ a cold glare to quiet his laughter. "Either way, it's probably a good idea to sleep the first night." Rico says. "We need guard duty at night." Jayce, returning to the fire (after all, it's easy to have a campfire with 4 fire types around!) and sitting at one of the logs used as seats. "We need... OW, BLOODY HELL!" Jayce had accidentally sat one side of his rear right on a barely sharp nub where a branch had been sliced off by Justin. "I think I believe in Karma now." Logan chuckled at their Leader's misfortune. "Don't laugh at me!" Jayce grunted. "Yes, Cap'n!" Logan said with loads of sarcasm. "This right here is what will be the death of my sanity. Either way, We need someone on Patrol at night. Any volunteers?" After a long silence, a voice broke the quiet. "I'll do it!" The voice belonged to Shane's sister, Emily. "You're insane! You can barely fight for yourself, Em!" Shane was attempting to get her to agree to let him do it instead. "I just choose not to fight, Shane. Besides, I saw Rico kick your ass many times in training, so how hard can it be?" She smiled softly, and most of those hearing this tried to hold in their laughter. "We can have 2 shifts. Emily takes watch while Shane sleeps, and when he wakes up, he takes over for her. And it can't be right away. That's an order." Jayce said calmly. "You're giving orders now? How ad..." Logan was cut off in the midst of another sarcastic comment. "Yes, Balor, I am giving orders. You all made it clear I can't lead by just reputation and intimidation, so I'm telling you now, If you want to survive, it's best to follow what I say unless you have better plans. Any objections?" Jayce declared. Rico shook his head. "None here!" Shane bit his lower lip. "C'mon, bro. I'll be fine. Trust me." She skipped off to the outer parts of the wall to start the nightwatch. After all, How hard could it really be?

Sorry for the wait. I accidentally wrote chapters 8 and 9 before I wrote 7 and 8 😅😅😅 My bad. They'll all be out once I write ch. 7
