Chapter 10: So We Meet Again. . . Sorta
Natsu's POV
Gray and I had woke up like normal people today. We got dress, ate breakfast, and went out to the beach. When we got there, everyone was there, except for Erza, Lucy, Juvia, Wendy, Carla, Happy, and Levy.
We ran over to Jett and Droy. "Where did Erza, Lucy, Juvia, Wendy, Carla, Happy, and Levy go?" asked Gray when we got there. Jett answered, "I don't know. One of Lucy's spirits came and said their world was about to be destroyed. After that they were taken to the spirit world." I asked, "When will they be back?" "We don't know," answered Droy. "They just left. No good bye or anything."
Gray and I nodded. "Well I guess we'll just have to watch for when they come back," said Gray. "Yeah. I guess we'll go do something while we wait. See ya later," I said as we left the other two.
*Time Skip 3 Months*
Gray and I were having a race when I caught a familiar scent. "Natsu! Gray!" We turned around and saw the people who disappeared three months ago. "Guys!" yelled Gray as we raced towards the group.
"What happened?" asked Gray. "The Celestial Spirit King had us brought there so we could celebrate," answered Lucy. "How much longer till the Grand Magic Games?" asked Erza. "We leave for Crocus in five day," I said. "Then we must train! It will be like Hell on Earthland, but it will be worth it!" yelled Erza.
She began going through different exercises when a bird landed on her head. "Look!" said Wendy. "There's a note." "What does it say?" I asked. Happy read the note, "Hey Fairy Tail! You better come to the broken suspension bridge." Lucy and Levy said it sounded like a trap. "I say we check it out. A strong opponent is just what we need for training," said Erza. "I was hoping you'd say that!" I yelled.
We walked through the forest until we found the broken bridge. A white light surrounded it and the bridge fixed itself. I got pushed out onto the bridge to see if it would fall. I made it across, but wasn't happy to hear that I was a guinea pig.
The others crossed after I made sure it was safe. We weren't even a feew steps away when three figures approached us. "You came," said the one in the middle. "Who are you?" yelled Gray and I simultaneously. The three people began lowering their hoods.
"It's nice to see you again Erza," said the guy in the middle. "Jellal? What are you doing here?" Erza and Jellal began talking.
One of the girls said, "Long time no see Gray." "Ultear?" asked Gray. "Yup." What are you doing here?" "We came to ask if you'd do something since you're competing in the GMG. For the past few years we've been sensing a strange power there, and it's similar to Zeref." She paused while we took in the Zeref part. "We were wondering if you'd help us. You get a reward like any other job."
Jellal had stopped talking to Erza when Ultear explained. Erza said, "So you need our help since you can't get in without suspicion?" The three nodded. "We'll pay up front too," said the third person. "Front money!" Yelled Happy and Lucy. "Kinda. Not something as materialistic though."
The two gave her a confused look. "As Meredy said, we will pay upfront. I've been practicing with my Arc of Time and I can give you a 'power up' if you will. There is a reservoir of power that's inaccessible. It's called the second origin. With my Arc of Time I can increase your magic power and give you access to your second origin."
When she finished, Erza had a worried look on her face. She glanced at Gray and I before her expression went back to normal. She said, "We'll help you guys." "Great. We will head back to the beach and have Ultear unlock your second origin."
By the time we got back to the beach, the sun had already started setting. "Who's first?" asked Ultear when we stopped walking. Erza stepped forward. "I'll go," she said. Ultear nodded and began opening Erza's second origin. When nothing happened to Erza, the others released a breath they didn't know they were holding. One by one everyone had gone except for Gray and I. There were red lines on their bodies and they were all screaming in pain.
"Ultear, can we talk to you for a moment?" Gray asked. She nodded and we walked a bit away from everyone. "So is this about wanting to unlock your second origin in private so you don't seem weak or what?" asked Ultear. "No. I was just wondering if there was a way to tell if it was already unlocked," answered Gray. "I assume there is, but why would you need to know?" Gray and I stayed quiet, not knowing if we should answer or not. "Well?"
"I think I can help here," said Jellal as he walked up to us. "You can?" asked Ultear. "Of course. As you three know I was once Siegrain, the tenth strongest Wizard Saint. When Fuyu and Kasai came I was kicked from the Wizard Saints," started Jellal. "Yes I know, and so do they apparently. WHat does this have to do with them though?" interrupted Ultear. "Do you want me to finish?" asked Jellal. Gray and I looked at each other. I nodded and he nodded back. We turned to Jellal and nodded, giving him the 'ok' to continue.
"These two are the reason I am no longer a Wizard Saint. I say that with no hate behind these words. I just couldn't word that sentence better." "It's fine buddy!" I sad while waving my hand at him dismissively. Ultear's eyes widened in realization. "Y-you're-" "Yes. I'm Kasai. He's Fuyu," I said cutting her off.
"The I guess it makes sense you would ask about seeing if your second origin was unlocked or not," she said. She paused for a moment to think. "The only way I can think of is to try and unlock it. If it doesn't work then you've already accessed it." "The let's give it a shot I guess," I said. 'If we haven't opened it yet, then things will either be really safe or really not safe.' 'No duh Flame-for-Brains. And 'really not safe' is that the best your dumb head could come up with?' 'What was that!?' 'You heard me!'
I would have continued but a tingly feeling went through my body. I saw Gray move a little, so I assume it happened to him too. "You haven't unlocked it yet, but you're close. I can finish unlocking it if you want. It's up to you." 'Well?' 'Why not. If we don't do it now and it happens later,we might not be able to control it immediately.' 'But what if it come already controlled?' 'I don't think we should risk it.' 'Alright.'
"Go ahead and do it Ultear," said Gray while I nodded my head. "Alright. Here goes nothing." As she began unlocking it, the tingly feeling turned into a burning sensation. It wasn't painful though, just uncomfortable. "There. Let's get back to the others before they get suspicious." We nodded and went back to everyone else.
Erza, Gray, and I said good bye to the three in cloaks since everyone else was still screaming in pain. We got them back to the resort before heading our separate ways to our own rooms. Gray and I fell asleep before our heads hit the mattress.
*Time Skip to Last Day at Beach*
Gray's POV
I woke up the next morning before Natsu. I got out of bed and began packing everything up. Natsu woke up soon after a started and helped me finish. We got some food and headed to the train to leave for Crocus. Gramps and the ones who weren't competing left a few days ago, so we were meeting them at the capital.
Everyone else was already there when we arrived. "What took you so long?" questioned Erza. She had an aura that said 'answer carefully because your lives depend on it' around her. "We slept in a little late and had to pack. Now lets get on the train," I said. We all boarded the train and left for Crocus.
It wasn't a long ride so we got there around one in the afternoon. The two teams split up when we got to the train station. Our group wandered around for a few minutes and ran into Gramps, Levy, Jett, and Droy. "Hello brats!" called Gramps. "Hello Master," said Erza. "I assume you've read the rules," said Gramps while eyeing Natsu and I. "The girls read through the rules. These two however," Erza stopped talking and looked at us. "Didn't."
Levy had the rule book and read them to us. "Great! Now that we know the rules, let's look around. It's our first time in the capital so let's explore!" said a very enthusiastic Natsu. Happy, Natsu and I ran off. "Do you even know where the inn is?" yelled Erza. "Yeah. The Honeybone Inn!" I called back. "Alright. But be back before midnight!" she yelled once more. "Aye Sir!" said Happy.
We explored the city for a while before Natsu and Happy saw something in a store they thought was interesting, so they went to check it out. Just after they left, Juvia ran towards me. "Hello Gray!" "Hi Juvia," I responded. "I was wondering if you'd want to get some lunch?" "I am pretty hungry. Sure why not. But can-" I was cut off from my answer. "I know the perfect place for lunch!" "Lyon!" He completely ignored me and walked away with his arm around Juvia. "It's very romantic and there's a fish tank too." "You can't leave with a member of our guild!" I yelled.Sure I'm not close with her, but she's in the guild, so she's family.
He turned around and said, "You're in the Grand Magic Games this year right?" I nodded. "Well it's no use. Lamia Scale will win." "Last I heard your guild loses to Sabertooth every year," I said. "Well your guild is always in last place!" he retorted. "Besides, Jura and I will be competeing this year so our team will be stronger than ever before." "Well we have a few aces in the hole too! Natsu and I, along with our S-class mages are competing this year."
Lyon and I were in each other's faces the whole time. He backed up before saying, "Let's make a bet. If Lamia Scale wins the lovely Juvia comes with us." 'Is he crazy.' I thought "And what if we win?" I asked. "Then you can have her back." replied Captain Crazy. "But she was never in your guild! Not a fair bet if you ask me." "Sounds like the words of someone who's scared to lose." "I'm not scared we're going to lose. I accept your dumb bet."
Lyon left without a word. 'So Jura is competing. This just got a bit more interesting.' Natsu and Happy came back just before Juvia could ask me about lunch again. "What was that about?" asked Happy. "Lyon decided to make a bet with me. He said Jura was competing this year." I said. "Really! Alright! I hope one of us gets to fight him. Just imagine, punching him into the ground an wiping Lyon's smug smile of his face," said Natsu. "I can see it now." He spaced out after that. "Natsu, Happy, you guys hungry?" Natsu's stomach answered for him. "Aye Sir!" yelled Happy. We walked off but I felt like I forgot something. We ate lunch and continued to look around.
It was getting closer to midnight, so we headed to the inn. Natsu started sniffing the air. "It smells like dragons over there." We ran to where he said the smell was coming from and we saw a crowd of people. We pushed our way through and saw more than six people unconscious on the ground. Sting and Rogue were standing between the knocked out bodies.
Sting looked at Natsu and his eyes went wide. "So the rumors are true. You're competing in the Grand Magic Games." "This is Natsu Dragneel?" asked Rogue. "Yup," replied Sting. Happy and their cats started arguing while we continued talking. "How the hell do you know me?" yelled Natsu. "I idolized you for a while. My partner here admired Gajeel," said Sting. Rouge said," It was a mere interest since he was a dragon slayer too." Natsu decided to play the stupid card. "You're dragon slayers too! And who the heck are you?" yelled Natsu.
People around us began whispering about how we didn't know them. "We're Sting and Rogue. And we prefer to be called true dragon slayers." Lector, Sting's cat explained how they were third generation dragon slayers. They had lacrimas implanted and were raised by dragons. Natsu asked, "Did your dragons disappear in the year 777?" Sting ad Rogue laughed. "You could say that," said Sting. "More like they died," said Rogue immediately after Sting finished. He continued, "We killed them with our own hands." I was shocked and it was quite obvious. Happy was too. Natsu on the other hand looked pissed. "They were your parents! How could you!?" Sting and Rouge never answered, they simply walked away with their cats.
We got to the inn and were met with an angry Erza and a scared Lucy and Elfman. "What took you two so long. It's almost midnight!" We told them what happened with Sting and Rouge. By the time we were done, it was midnight.
