Prologue
September 21, 2060
The sound of a baby's cry can be heard from all across the hospital. In a small, dimly lit room was a woman who had just given birth to a beautiful baby boy. She cried with joy as she held him in her arms. "My baby boy. I love you so much." the mother said happily as she hugged her baby in her arms.
"He's got your eyes." The woman's husband smiled, looking at his newborn son before looking back at his wife. Suddenly, the door opened, catching the attention of the young parents. As they looked up, they saw a government agent had walked in.
"Mrs. Jones, I am agent 2043." The man said emotionlessly as he noticed the look on the woman's face. Her eyes flooded with tears, lips quivering, and her brows curved downward in sadness. "I'm assuming you know why I'm here."
"Let me keep him. This isn't fair!" The woman hugged her baby closer. "He's my baby!"
"I'm sorry ma'am, but you know the rules." The agent sighed sympathetically. "You chose this for the child. This was your decision."
The woman was quiet for a little while as she seemed to be regretting her choice. The husband noticed the look on his wife's face and leaned in close
"Babe, he's going to be okay." He whispered, putting his hand on her shoulder. "He will come back to us. . . eventually. I know he will."
The woman nodded before looking up at the agent. "Can I have a few more minutes?" She sniffed as tears were slowly falling from her eyes. The agent nodded as he headed just outside the door.
Once he was out of the room, the woman looked at her crying baby with a sad smile. "I am so sorry for this, my baby." She sniffed. "Just remember that I love you. And please, come back to us one day. My Ray of sunlight."
Tears fell from both the husband and wife as they hugged their baby before the woman sang a special lullaby.
"My Ray of sunlight, little Ray of sunlight
I pray we'll meet again someday.
Even though it's scary now, you'll be okay.
Remember my lullaby as you sleep through the night
My Ray of sunlight, little Ray of sunlight.
No matter what becomes of you,
And no matter what you might do,
you will always be. . .
My little Ray. . . of. . . sunlight."
To be Continued. . .
