"Fuck you, Cass! I'm getting back in bed!" He yelled, unable to keep the grin off his face as the other three laughed.
Only a few hours later, he was sitting in darkness, staring at where he knew the door was. There was nothing to distract him, nothing to stop him from letting his mind drift. And so... it drifted. He saw things in darkness.
They started out as little glowing orbs that flitted about, occasionally bumping into each other and making little chirping sounds. He liked those best.
After a while, they started to transform. Each an image of his own self, but with traits altered. They still glowed, bright and happy and innocent.
He hated the next stage, where they grew again. They were suspicious, angry, fighting with each other. Sometimes, he tried to talk to them, stop them. He was ignored.
The last stage, his least favorite. The tiny orbs were gone, leaving six people who glowed enough to be seen in the darkness. They watched him, as if he could do anything about their pain and anger.
Today, one stepped toward him. They no longer looked like him, evident by her blond hair and orange eyes. Her steps clicked on the floor, despite the carpet beneath her feet. He sat there in his bed, watching her, too exhausted to do anything. He was completely helpless as she lifted him by the neck, staring into his silver eyes with a small sneer.
"You stole this from us."
Her voice was powerful, harsh as fire and smooth as honey.
"Some of us were here first."
A few of those behind her faded away.
"You know the rightful host, parasite."
He let out a hoarse laugh, not stopping as she squeezed, gripping his neck like her life depended on it. He knew, of course he knew. How could he not?
"Is that it? You want the real one back? After all they've been through..."
He paused, watching her expression. His voice was taunting, with a faint hint of an Irish accent.
"On the other side?"
She grimaced, orange eyes glowing bright. That light used to mean something, a magic that she had treasured for so long.
"You belong there, in that realm. Not here, changeling."
He laughed again, wheezing through her grip.
"You can't kill me, not without trapping your friend in the Unseelie Court. Don't you know that?"
The changeling kept staring into her eyes, glowing like pure fire. He was playing with his demise, he knew that for sure.
"Oh, you idiot, the original host hasn't been my friend in a long time. You can go join them there for all I care."
She grinned, flames rushing down her arm toward the changeling. There was no scream, no grand finale. He burned quietly, and if no one had seen him before, one would think he had been dead the whole time. She chuckled, watching as the skin roasted.
"This body is rightfully mine."
She- Ciara- snapped her fingers, moving to sit in the place of where the changeling had been. The pile of charred bones disappeared, and everything went dark.
