Enemies Divided; Daniel LaRusso (Part 9)

"Things are finally starting to look up again," thought Daniel as he pushed open the LaRussos' polished wooden front door. He hung his keys on the hook hanging next to a framed photograph of himself, his wife, Amanda, and their two children, Samantha and Anthony. Daniel and Amanda had matching shining silver key hooks which they had hung side by side when they first started their car company together, LaRusso Auto. Nowadays, they looked worn and rusty.

He walked into the kitchen where he found Amanda sitting at the kitchen table, scrolling on her laptop.

"I'm back," announced Daniel before kissing his wife on the cheek.

"How did the karate lessons with your second ex-enemy go?" Amanda asked jokingly as she closed her laptop.

"Good," Daniel answered, smiling.

Her sarcasm is one of my favorite things about her.

Amanda smirked knowingly as she poured them both glasses of sparkling water.

"Where are the kids?"

"Sam's still out with her friends and Anthony's in his bedroom, probably playing video games again."

Daniel sighed heavily. Sam had been a very active and intelligent kid from the moment she was born. She even gave Daniel himself a run for his money during their karate lessons when she was only eight years old! But Anthony on the other hand, he was a different story. He was always off playing video games or hanging at a friend's house. And more recently, he and Amanda learned that he was bullying a new kid in his class. Everything about the whole situation felt wrong, but he didn't know how to fix it.

"I'll go check on Anthony and you order the pizza?" offered Daniel, pushing his seat out from the table.

"Okay, but I get to choose the toppings," stated Amanda as she whipped out her phone.

Daniel smiled once more before walking towards his son's bedroom door and knocking lightly. There was loud music blaring from behind the closed door.

"You can come in!" yelled Anthony, trying to talk over the music.

Here goes round two.

When he opened the door, Daniel could not have been more surprised with what he found. Anthony was actually practicing the karate moves Daniel had tried to teach him a few weeks prior.

Maybe he cares more about karate than I thought.

"Yes?" asked Anthony, pausing his music agitatedly.

"Nothing, just checking on you," responded Daniel.

"Whatever," said Anthony, rolling his eyes.

"Oh, and by the way, it goes left, right," added Daniel before gently closing the door behind him.

If only he knew how much that meant to me.

"Daniel, you should come see this!" shouted Amanda from the kitchen.

Daniel rushed back into the kitchen, a confused look on his face.

"What's wrong?" questioned Daniel, but as the words left his mouth, he already knew the answer.

"In other news, retired veteran and karate instructor, John Kreese, has been arrested for the aggravated assault and attempted murder of Raymond Johnson mere days before the Valley's annual karate tournament," stated reporter, Frankie Arnaz on the TV as an image of Kreese in a police car was shown.

"This is good, right?" confirmed Amanda happily.

Daniel's expression meanwhile was much different.

If Kreese is gone, Terry must be planning something even worse than I imagined.

"Why do I get the feeling that you're about to do something really stupid?" wondered Amanda out loud as she intently watched Daniel's expression shift.

"I'm going to visit Kreese in prison," stated Daniel plainly.

"And there it is," sighed Amanda, dropping her hands down exasperatedly.

"I need to figure out what Terry's planning and if anyone knows what it is, it would be Kreese," explained Daniel.

"Are they even going to let you see him?" questioned Amanda, skeptically.

"I have to try," finished Daniel, determinedly.

Terry Silver fooled me once, he's not going to do it again.

"Fine, just promise me you won't hit a guy this time," yielded Amanda.

"I'll try," joked Daniel as he grabbed his keys from the hook once more.
