Building Anger; Tory Nichols (Part 7)
Bam! Was the sound that echoed across the room as Tory's fist slammed against the training dummy.
The one time I thought I actually won something!
Her fists hit into the dummy again, harder and faster.
I didn't even use illegal moves!
The dummy wobbled on its plastic stand, almost as if trying to keep balance.
And then, she remembered Amanda LaRusso's face during her fight with Sam. She had accidentally elbowed her too hard in the eye and she had gone temporarily blind in her left eye.
I'm sure everyone thought I did that on purpose too, right?
She pulled her fist back, anger coursing through her veins and she punched the dummy's face in so hard that the foam head sank into its neck.
But Amanda had looked so shocked. Almost surprised. Did she believe it was an accident?
Wham! Suddenly, Tory found herself lying on the floor, sprawled out. The dummy had bounced back and knocked into her. She huffed angrily as she pushed herself to her feet.
Clap, clap, clap, she heard coming from the training room doorway.
"Well done, Ms. Nichols," smiled Terry Silver, one of her senseis as he stood in the doorway.
To sum up what Tory thought of Terry was to say that she believed his ponytail to be too small for his overly large head.
Tory avoided making eye contact with her sensei as she stood up.
He's the one who sabotaged the match.
But she knew she couldn't tell him off. She'd risk everything she had been working towards.
"I don't know if Sensei Kreese ever told you this, but you truly are the shining example of what Cobra Kai stands for," expressed Terry proudly as he finally met her eyes.
His face held a complex expression that she couldn't quite read.
"Thanks," she said as she grabbed a towel and wiped the sweat from her forehead.
"Anytime."
"And in case you didn't know, I have a big announcement to make, I'm just trying to wait for Mr. Keene to arrive," explained Terry.
Robby. She hadn't even begun to untangle that web.
"Can't wait," lied Tory before she joined the other Cobras in the sparring room.
They usually started training immediately but due to the special news, everyone was waiting for Sensei Silver and Sensei Kreese to start. Most of her fellow Cobras were sitting down on the mat of the new dojo (or at least new to them), discussing the most likely ideas for the Senseis' news.
"Maybe we're being transferred to a higher level dojo," suggested Piper.
"Yeah!" smirked Kyler and his friends.
Tory just rolled her eyes as she sat down next to Piper.
Idiots.
Ding the soft bell rang as the glass front door was opened and Robby stepped through.
He tossed his backpack down and stood there for a minute, a distant look on his face.
"I know how that feels," thought Tory as her eyes lingered on Robby for a split second before she snapped her attention back to the group.
"And finally, Mr. Keene arrives," declared Terry sarcastically though, he held no true contempt.
"Sorry, Sensei Silver, got distracted," apologized Robby.
Terry nodded before gesturing for him to take a seat next to Kenny Payne.
"Now, I know some of you must be wondering where Sensei Kreese is-" paused Terry mid-sentence to let his students exchange looks of confusion.
"Unfortunately, Sensei Kreese will not be joining us anymore due to his recent jailing for aggravated assault and attempted murder," finished Terry sadly.
Everyone looked around, almost expecting to see Kreese lurking in the shadows or something, except for Tory and Robby.
I've seen this happen to him before so, he'll probably just come back in a few days.
"So, will you be running the dojo alone?" asked Kenny.
"Good question, Mr. Payne, but the answer is no," informed Terry, plainly.
Kenny smirked at the encouragement from his Sensei. The Cobra Kai Senseis didn't often encourage their students at least, in the typical sense of the word.
"Then who'll be running it?" questioned Robby, the smallest sense of dread dripping into his voice.
"You, Mr. Keene," stated Terry, gesturing for Robby to stand next to him.
There was small applause from the students (namely, Kenny) as Robby stood to the right of Sensei Silver. Some of them still blamed him for losing to Eli in the tournament.
"And you, Mz. Nichols," added Terry.
Me? What is he playing at?
Tory nodded gratefully at her sensei as she took her spot, standing up straight on the left side of Terry.
"Oh, and don't worry, in time all of you will earn your rightful places amongst Cobra Kai's finest!" Terry stated modestly, addressing his crowd of excited students.
"Now, fighting stances!" ordered Terry.
