Breathless
I'm still in awe of what I just heard as the lights on the stage come up some. Thad moves further towards the back of the stage, handing off the microphone along the way to another Warbler.
I can hear Blaine flipping through his program at my side. His voice soft as he squeezes my hand, causing me to glance his way. "Looks like this is the last song they're doing before intermission."
I hum in response, whispering back a soft reply. "Which song and who's singing it??"
All I can hear is a soft you'll see before speaking on stage draws my attention away from Blaine again.
"Hey everyone."
My eyes go wide as I look to the stage, seeing a very familiar pair of moss green eyes looking back at me. And once he realizes that he has my attention, because I'm basically sitting in the front row, he smiles down at me and then looks directly out at the rest of the audience.
Crap.... It can't be time for his solo. I am so not ready to hear him sing that Ed Sheeran song.
"Well, hello again everyone out there. Some of you may know me, or of me. My name is Hunter Clarington, and I was the most recent addition to this years graduating class here at Dalton. Transferred here in early October but quickly found my footing with all the guys it seems."
I am finally able to focus on the fact that there is more than just Hunter on the stage when I hear Jeff calling out from the background, his blonde hair practically glittering under the stage lights.
"Clarington get on with it already."
Light laughter erupts in the audience as Hunter turns back to them with a shrug and an almost imperceptible blush on his cheeks. Once again it isn't something he can hide from me, not because of my seat placement this time. But because of how finely attuned I am to his body language. I tilt my head to the side and give him a smirk as he continues with whatever speech they had planned for him.
And my movements are instantly returned with a smile of his own, aimed at the audience but his eyes meet mine momentarily before he looks out at the crowd again.
"Thank you so much Jeffrey, for helping to reiterate my point. You see, they love to hate me."
That does it, Blaine actually snorts out in laughter beside me, whispering softly. He does have balls, I'll give him that... I miss much of what Hunter is saying on the stage as I turn to my cousin with wide eyes. Blaine just looks at me, motioning to the stage and whispers softly again, "I still don't like him. But the song they're going to do now, it's daring. Direct. Even I have to respect him for trying this."
Shaking my head I turn back utterly confused as I try to thumb through the program on my lap, just in time to hear Hunter speaking again.
"So they gave me the honor of closing out the first half of the concert this afternoon. Well with at least part of the lead on this next song. So I hope you guys enjoy. Hit it Beats."
Treat You Better
(Originally by Shawn Mendes)
I won't lie to you
I know he's just not right for you
And you can tell me if I'm off
But I see it on your face
When you say that he's the one that you want
And you're spending all your time
In this wrong situation
And anytime you want it to stop
I know I can treat you better
Than he can
And any girl like you deserves a gentleman
Tell me why are we wasting time
On all on your wasted crying
When you should be with me instead
I know I can treat you better
Better than he can
I'll stop time for you
The second you say you'd like me too
I just wanna give you the loving that you're missing
Baby, just to wake up with you
Would be everything I need and this could be so different
Tell me what you want to do
Cause I know I can treat you better
Than he can
And any girl like you deserves a gentleman
Tell me why are we wasting time
On all on your wasted crying
When you should be with me instead
I know I can treat you better
Better than he can
Better than he can
Give me a sign
Take my hand, we'll be fine
Promise I won't let you down
Just know that you don't
Have to do this alone
Promise I'll never let you down
Cause I know I can treat you better
Than he can
And any girl like you deserves a gentleman
Tell me why are we wasting time
And all on your wasted crying
When you should be with me instead
I know I can treat you better...
Better than he can(oh)
Better than he can
Better than he can
The boys sing and dance around the stage and I notice one member of their group noticeably absent for this last song before intermission.
Sebastian.
And I can imagine why.
Hunter occasionally locks eyes with me while he is singing. Moss green eyes sparkling playfully.
My cheeks are getting uncomfortably warm.
My head is spinning.
I'm barely breathing as the song comes to an end. The lights going dark on the stage as the curtain lowers once again.
I'm in deep.
So very deep.
