Felcrid Societies
The Felcrids, known for simplicities sake in this book as "cats", have been around for centuries, possibly even milleniums. With such an abundance of them, they began to form groups and Alliences, some travelling, others in place.
There are a number of different variants of Felcrid Society. This book focuses on Coalitions.
Colonies:
The smallest group on the spectrum of Felcrid Society are the Colonies. They typically range to around the size of two to six families, and often have no more than 20 cats. Unless they have a stable territory, Colonies tend to migrate in order to hunt for better prey. They are usually lead by two cats - The oldest, wisest cat in the Colony and the strongest, most noble.
Coalitions:
Coalitions, which this series focus on, are the second on the Scale. They have a thorough ranking-system and can have at least 30 members. Coalitions tend to border one another in "treaties", often consisting of three to five Coalitions. Coalitions are named after their founders, and have three leaders- The General, who is the topmost ranking, the Colonel, who is their second-in-command, and the Major, who leads the Coalition in battle and organises squadrons. The Medic also has the power to remove a General, Colonel or Major from power if they feel they are corrupt, and are able to appoint a new one.
Hoardes:
Hoardes are the ever-growing, ever expanding groups of war-mongerers with a taste for blood. They are easily able to outnumber a whole Treaty and take over any territory they wish. Hoardes are rare, but not unheard of. There are four leaders of a Hoarde - The Warlord/chief, who is only ever adressed as such, The second, who is often their mate or closest, most trusted soldier, The Executioner, who is the Hoardes most vicious, least controllable and therefore most terrifying asset, and the strategist, who plays a similar role to a Major.
Kingdoms:
Kingdoms are, by far, the largest on the scale. It is said that they are the size of nearly four Treaties, and span hundreds of miles of territory. Only one has ever been recorded - The Mountain-Pass Kingdom, deep in the tunnels of the distant Flakerock Mountains. It is speculated that the Treaty which this story focuses on originated from a different Kingdom, and had to split into Coalitions due to a shortage of resources. Kingdoms are lead by a massive number of cats - The Royal Family, The Oracle (A cat who canspeak to The Forseer), and the Elected Council, made up of at least forty-to-eighty cats. Often times, Kingdoms are split into Districts, each with an Elected Mayor and Council.
