Summary:
When Chaeyoung was told that Jungkook fell sick, she swore that she would do anything just to avoid to be sent to his room because she would have to pray that she wouldn't have to face Jungkook being such a clingy baby.

Chaeyoung scrubbed the kitchen counter aggressively as she listened to her mother telling her every single kindness the Jeon had given to their small family of two. Ever since her father's death when she was only a year old, Jungkook's parents brought her mother and her to live with them and that her mother's salary was given a raise. Not only that, Chaeyoung was treated as their own child, and she had almost everything the real child of the Jeons had.
"So don't make that face, put the rag away, take that tray to Jungkook and feed him."
She huffed out loud, earning a smack on the back of her shoulder as she threw the rag onto the counter and the wet cloth slid a few centimeters.
"Mom, Jungkook is not a child. We're both 20 years old. Why should I feed him?" she asked with a frustrated tone.
Her mother crossed her arms over her chest and stared at her long. "You do know that Jungkook will not eat anything if you're not around," she stated and Chaeyoung rolled her eyes.
"If that's the case then why can't he –"
The tray with a bowl of hot porridge was shoved towards her by her mother and she held it with panic, afraid that it would spill as she gasped softly. Frowning heavily at her mother, she pouted as she walked away, not forgetting to let her grunt be heard by the older woman.
Chaeyoung rolled her eyes and sighed when she stood in front of his room. Even without the barrier opened, she could see Jungkook lying on the bed with the thick duvet covering his body completely and she could imagine him whining, refusing to eat like a child being forced to eat greens. Chaeyoung knocked on the door and waited for his response.
"Who's that?" Jungkook said from inside. His voice was weak and seemed annoyed by the tone he was using.
"It's me," Chaeyoung said with a sigh, her foot tapping the floor impatiently. "Open this now."
She heard a thud and a curse followed suit and a few moments after, the door opened and she was met with Jungkook in a hairstyle suit to be a bird's nest and just by looking at his face, she could confirm it that he was really sick and that she should expect the worse coming from him.
"You look terrible," she commented flatly.
Jungkook's lips curved into a smile slowly before he furrowed his brows and pouted at her before he looked down. "Chae, the table's leg hit my toes. Please blow them to rid the pain away."
The flat expression she had a few seconds ago morphed into a disgusted one before she rolled her eyes in an exaggerated way, pushing the door wider with her body as she entered the room while ignoring Jungkook who followed her like a lost boy.
"You need to eat," she said after placing the tray on the table.
"No," Jungkook said, shaking his head as he plopped on the bed.
"You have to."
"I don't want to."
"But you have to," she groaned. "Come on, eat. I'll be here until you finish it."
Jungkook shook his head again and let his body collapse on the bed slowly. Chaeyoung grunted while walking towards him, pulling his heavy arm upwards.
"Jungkook, you need to eat or I'll get in trouble with my mom."
"No," he whined and curled on the bed. "I don't have any appetite to eat."
"Don't make this difficult, please?"
Jungkook exhaled sharply through his nose before he looked up at her. "Feed me."
"Are you kidding me right now?" she asked with her hands on her waist. "You're 20 years old! Why do I need to feed you? You're not handicapped!"
"Then I'm not going to eat," he said, his tone reflecting finality and it was as if her mother could sense it, she shouted from downstairs; "Is Jungkook eating?!"
Gritting her teeth, she glared down at him before eventually giving in. "Fine!" She stepped towards the table to get the porridge angrily while saying, "Sit!"
When she turned around with the hot bowl in her hands, he wasn't sitting up yet. He was just adjusting his position on the bed, eyes trying so hard to open to stare at her with a small grin.
"I said sit, Jungkook. Sit," she told him but he refused and kept on lying down, positioned himself once more so he lied flat on his back. "Jungkook," she sighed with a little bit of whine. "Stop being such a baby."
With a deep sigh, Chaeyoung placed the bowl carefully on the bedside table before crawling on the bed next to his lying figure to get him to sit. When she placed both hands on his shoulder to pull him up, Jungkook's hands slid around her waist and pulled her down, locked her in his arms as both her hands were now dipped on the bed on either side of his head.
"You look so beautiful today," he said with a lazy grin, their faces were so close that if she went down just a little bit more, she could kiss him.
"I look like this every day. What do you mean I look beautiful only today," she said with a flat tone.
"I know," he said, rubbing her back with his big palm. "And I wanted to tell you that every day."
"Yeah, yeah," she said with a boring tone as she tucked the strands of her hair that fell to behind her ear. "We shouldn't be doing this, you know. My mom could walk in on us. And in any moment, your parents could come home."
She held in her gasp when Jungkook flipped their position. A few of her hairs splayed on her face before she took her hand off his shoulder and pushed them away from her face to get a perfect view of the guy hovering over her. Jungkook removed the arm that was being squished by her body and the mattress as he used it to prop himself on the bed while his other hand cupped her cheek, thumb grazing on her skin softly.
When he leaned down to meet his lips with hers, she pressed her palm against his face. "No."
He looked at her with sad eyes, giving her a look that almost resembled a sad bunny before he let out his pout and Chaeyoung had to roll her eyes for the millionth time on that day. With a little groan, she lifted her head a little and pecked his lips quickly. "Satisfied?" she asked, her own lips forming a pout as she glared at him.
Jungkook looked at her long as a slow grin decorated his face. "That's not enough, Chae."
Chaeyoung tried to push him off her body but even when he was sick, he was still strong enough to hold himself above her, her pushes did nothing to his stance.
"I'll give you a kiss as long as an hour once you recovered, okay?" she sighed.
Jungkook ignored her as he quickly leaned down and closed the gap between them, pressing his lips against hers and she hated this part of her that would give in to him when he commanded her to open her mouth with his tongue, swiping across her lips before pushing in gently. Chaeyoung sighed into his mouth and even though she could feel the heat coming from him when her tongue danced with his, it was stupid of her to refuse any attempt of her brain telling her to stop. Her hands worked together with her stupid heart, sliding across his shoulder, cupping his neck while the other tugged on his hair, pulling him down even more.
Jungkook pulled away to take a breather with furrowed brows before he put his head down next to hers, face buried into the mattress. He mumbled something and even though his words were muffled, she could hear them clearly.
"My head hurts," he complained.
Taking a deep breath while biting on her lower lip, Chaeyoung spoke, "You haven't eaten yet. That's why you need to eat and get a rest."
The next two to three minutes were spent on her trying to tell him to move but he made her promise to feed him or else he would weigh on her until her mom or his parents walked in on them. Eventually, she agreed and she couldn't help but shoot him a glare when he patted a space next to him once he got up, sitting with his back leaned against the headboard.
"You only treat me this way when you're sick," she muttered under her breath as she climbed the bed carefully to avoid from spilling the porridge.
It wasn't that Jungkook treated her badly when he wasn't sick. They had quarreled a week before when Jungkook saw her hanging out with their neighbor, Taehyung without him. But that was only because she was Taehyung's partner for an assignment, and Jungkook wasn't even in the same class. If he was, surely she would know with whom she should partner herself with. She didn't know anyone else in the class, and she would want to work with someone she knew and was comfortable with and that was the reason why she partnered with the said guy.
One thing about Jungkook that was sometimes cute and sometimes annoying to her was that he was quite a forgetful person. She was a hundred percent sure that she had told him about that and he was okay with it. But when he stumbled upon her and Taehyung in the library while they were in the middle of a discussion, he attacked her with words full of jealousy once they were both home.
As a result of that, they didn't talk nor did they look at each other for days. When Chaeyoung was told that Jungkook fell sick, she swore that she would do anything just to avoid to be sent to his room because she would have to pray that she wouldn't have to face Jungkook being such a clingy baby.
And she was right.
He was being one right at the moment.
"You're not a baby, so can you please eat properly?" she sighed. "Look at your – ugh." She put down the spoon and tried to wipe his porridge-covered lips with a tissue but he stopped her and she looked away when she noticed him smirking.
"Lick your lips, Jungkook."
"Do it for me."
She turned to him, face scrunched with a deep glare. "You're acting as if you didn't do anything wrong last week. I hate you."
"Well, you're acting as if last week didn't happen as well," he said with a low chuckle as he leaned his head against the headboard, closing his eyes with a smile on his face. "I haven't gotten a kiss like that from you for a while."
"Shut up," she grunted and used the tissue to wipe on his lips aggressively. "I still hate you."
He opened his eyes in a slow motion and stared at her with that sad bunny look again and she pressed her lips into a thin line, tossing the tissue onto the tray before scooping the porridge with the spoon harshly and asked him to open his mouth and he surprisingly complied without looking away.
Once she was done feeding him the porridge, Chaeyoung slid off from the bed to put the bowl onto the tray and take them back to the kitchen but she was stopped when she felt a light grip around the hem of her shirt.
"Don't go, Chae."
She flicked his hand with her finger. "I need to wash these."
"Do that later. Stay here until I fall asleep," he said groggily as he slowly wrapped his fingers around her wrist, his thumb stroking her skin softly. "Please?"
"I'll come back later, Jungkook."
"No, I don't want you to go," he whined, slowly pulling her hand but she forced it to stay still next to her side.
"Oh my god, I said I'll be back. I won't be long." She pulled her hand in an instant when she felt his grip on her weakened by seconds, her feet quickly stepped away towards the door and she wanted to groan and laugh at the same time when Jungkook's whine got louder, calling her name in such a desperate tone.
"Chaeyoungie... Chaeng..." he called her weakly while trying to get off the bed when she closed the door.
A few steps away, she heard the door to his room opened and she closed her eyes in annoyance before turning around. "Get back in there. You said your head –"
"I don't want you to leave me alone in there."
"Don't be such a baby. Quit it already. You're going to make me puke," she said while turning on her heel.
Jungkook wrapped his arms around her body and placed his chin on her shoulder, locking her in her spot. "Please..."
"Stop being so dramatic, Jungkook. Gosh. I will not be long. Do you understand that? It won't take me a year to clean all this and walk back to your room, so can you just please wait for me in your room? I'm begging you."
It took him a moment to respond to that as he pressed his nose against her neck, sniffing and pecking it. "Promise me you will come back quickly."
"Yes," she groaned. "I promise."
And with that, he let her go and before he could change his mind if he planned to, she quickly walked away without looking back while trying to balance the bowl in the tray.
She came back with a clean towel a small basin filled with water and saw Jungkook sprawled on the bed with some books around him. Placing the basin on the table next to his bed, she gave a quick glance towards the books on his bed and recognized them as hers. The books she used to read when she was a child.
"Chaeyoung, read me book please."
She narrowed her eyes at him while she sat on the bed and wiped his face using the towel she had soaked in the water she brought in. "What's gotten into you," she muttered, her hand was busy in an effort to cool down his temperature as she wiped his face and his neck gently.
"Read me Alice in Wonderland."
"You hated that story," she replied. "You liked Peter Pan more."
"But you loved Alice in Wonderland," he said as she slipped her hand with the towel under his shirt to wipe on his chest and abdomen. "I want to learn to love the things that you love."
Upon hearing that, she felt her heart skipped a beat because she could see the seriousness in what he told her when she looked at him in the eyes. Nevertheless, she responded to him with a flat tone, "Very funny."
"I'm serious."
"Tell me when you're done with your drama, alright?" she muttered. "Turn around."
"Chaeyoung, I'm serious," he sighed and obeyed as he rolled on the bed so he lay flat on his stomach while she wiped on his back. "I feel like we've been fighting a lot because of how different we are."
She stayed silent for a moment and her hand seemed to reflect the silence as it stayed still on his back.
"I don't want to fight with you anymore, Chae. One week of silence was such a torture to me. So if I have to change to be someone else to better our relationship, I will do that."
She removed her hand from under his shirt, smoothed down his shirt and patted his back, signaling him that she was done with that. Jungkook turned around and faced her. She breathed in softly and said, "I don't want you to change and be someone else. If you're going to do that, it's better if I date someone else instead."
He frowned at that.
"We don't need to change ourselves, Jungkook," she said, placing the towel into the basin. "Maybe what we need to learn is how to tolerate because both of us are lacking in that. Maybe we should learn how to give in, even though we are not on the wrong side."
Jungkook stared at her long before he got up and pulled her by the neck gently to capture her lips briefly. She whined softly, mumbling to his lips that she would inherit his fever soon if he kept on kissing her. Chaeyoung pouted a little and told him to lie down and get a rest but he handed her the storybook instead.
"Jungkook, you don't have to love every single thing that I love. Of course, it's going to be great to know if you end up loving the same thing but –"
"I know," he breathed and placed his head on her lap while hugging one of his pillows. "But I love seeing you enjoying the things that you love."
She stared at him for a long while and smiled a little, just admiring the way he breathed softly as he closed his eyes, his chest rising and falling on a steady rhythm.
"So, would you mind reading me that?" he said, cracking his eyes open slowly.
Chaeyoung nodded and started reading the book for him before he chuckled and asked her to read it cheerily as though she was reading it to a child because apparently, she sounded like a news anchor.
She looked down and knitted her brows. "You know, you're pretty demanding for a sick person."
Jungkook smiled a slow smile at her and even after years and years of knowing him, growing up with him, she still couldn't look at him smiling that way without having her cheeks burning and her heartbeat speeding up. And when she had to remind herself of the fact that Jungkook reserved that smile and that kind of look only for her, it would only make the butterflies in her tummy dance.
"Has someone ever told you how cute you are when you blushed?" Jungkook asked, taking one of her hands that were holding the book and she quickly snatched her hand away, blushing even more.
"I'm not blushing," she said lowly, placing the book on his face and tried to continue where she left off.
"I didn't say that you're blushing right now," he chuckled and she gritted her teeth, pressing the book against his face. Jungkook winced but made no effort to remove the book from his face. He kept quiet and stayed still and Chaeyoung knew that it was nothing serious at all, she didn't even press the book so hard against his face that it would cause serious injury on him or stop him from breathing but there was a part of her that was worried sick when he didn't give any other respond after she heard him wince.
Chaeyoung quickly removed the book from his face and jerked one of her thighs upward. "Jungkook," she muttered, trying so hard to hide her panic. When he didn't respond, and that his head weakly tilted to the side after she jerked her thigh, her eyes widened and she quickly placed her palm on his chest, shaking his body.
"Jungkook. Are you asleep? Jungkook. Jungkook."
There was no respond and she let the book fall from her hand and a thud was created when it fell to the floor next to the bed. She cupped his face and brushed his hair away, pressing the back of her hand against his forehead and felt the temperature was just the same like earlier. "Jungkook, can you hear me?" she asked, ignoring the panic that was obvious in her voice.
"Jungkook, wake up please," she said as she patted his face softly, not realizing how her voice had changed and it almost sounded as if she was about to cry in panic. "Please wake up. Please wake up. Please wake up. Please, please, please."
When she was busy looking around, trying to remember where she placed her cell phone or where Jungkook's cell phone was located because her mother had left to the market when she went to wash the dishes and Jungkook's parents were still on their business trip, she felt the body under her fingers shook and when she looked down, Jungkook's lips were curving upwards.
He opened his eyes slowly and grinned at her before laughing softly. "And you're even cuter when you're in panic."
Her mouth fell open as she stared down at him. "I hate you," she said through gritted teeth, slapping his shoulder.
Jungkook laughed softly and she crossed her arms over her chest, chewing on her lower lip to suppress her anger. He only stopped for a few seconds before resuming back on laughing at her and she jerked both her thighs to remove his head off her but even after all that, he still tried to place his head on her lap to the point she was too tired to even do anything and eventually letting him do what he wanted. He called her name a few times but she ignored and looked out the window.
"Chaeyoung," he called her softly and tickled his tummy. She flicked his finger with an annoyed expression on her face before looking away again.
"Chaeyoung..." This time, he tried to take her hand but she moved it away from his touch until it eventually landed on his chest and he held her hand firmly against his chest, not letting it go.
"Chaeyoung..." he called again and kissed her hand.
Annoyed, she glared down at him. "What?!"
Jungkook's lips stretched against the skin of her hand. He pulled her hand away from his face and placed it back on top of his chest. "I love you. So much."
She rolled her eyes and muttered. "I hate you."
"You mean, you love me?" he smirked.
"No. I hate you means I hate you."
"Okay," he chuckled. "I love you."
She didn't reply and looked away again.
"I love you," Jungkook said again.
"Rest. Close your eyes and close your mouth. Shut up and sleep."
"I love you, Chaeyoung."
"Yeah, I get it," she muttered and bit the inner side of her cheeks because a smile was threatening to break.
"Chaeyoung?"
"What?"
"I love you."
"Stop it."
"Yeah but, I love you."
"Stop throwing that word around like it means nothing."
"Okay, but, Chaeyoung?" When she only hummed as a response, he repeated, "Chaeyoung?"
"What is it, Jeon Jungkook?"
"I really love you so much."
She sighed and looked at him and softened when all the teasing expressions on his face earlier had gone, replaced with a really serious yet tender look as he stared into her eyes. "I mean it," he said softly. "I'm sorry for being such an asshole last week and for pretending to be dead just now. I just want you to know that I love you so much, okay?"
Chaeyoung furrowed her brows and gulped, staring at him long before she asked, "Why are you like this? Are you going to die?"
Jungkook chuckled before he lifted his brow. "Do you want me to die?"
Her eyes widened and she slapped his chest. "No! Are you going to die?"
"No, I'm not," he said, laughing. "I just wanted to tell you how much I love you."
She slightly pouted, her fingers slowly curled around on the fabric on his chest, clutching on his shirt. "Well, I love you too," she said softly.
Jungkook grinned and teased her again for a few more times before he finally fell asleep. While he was sleeping soundly, she took that chance to play with his hair, brushing them off his forehead, caressing his face softly and carefully as to not wake him up. Chaeyoung took the wet towel and folded it before placing it on his forehead and smiled at him warmly when his lips parted a little, a tiny sound of snore rolled out of him. She tapped on the tip of his nose softly and whispered, "I love you so much, you annoying idiot."
*
Chaeyoung felt her bed dipped and without opening her eyes, she whined silently in her heart as she curled herself under the thick blanket, pulling it over her face. She heard chuckles and she exhaled through her nose, feeling the burning heat from the air coming out brushing against her philtrum.
When the blanket was pulled down to reveal her face, she cracked one eye open and groaned when she saw the smiling face hovering over hers.
Jungkook had his arm above her head and stroked her hair softly as he said, "Wake up. I brought you porridge."
She breathed softly before opening both eyes and it felt like her head was pricked with hundreds of needles when Jungkook let the sunlight in from her windows. He helped her to sit and she rested her head against the headboard but the heaviness of her head was getting worse that she ended up resting her head on his shoulder as soon as he seated himself next to her.
"This is all your fault," she muttered.
"I'll take care of you in return since I am fully recovered," he chuckled.
Chaeyoung smiled weakly and tried to lift her head off his shoulder and turned to face him. "Didn't I promise to give you a kiss as long as one hour once you recovered?"
Jungkook raised his brow and smirked at her. "I don't mind, you know. But I'm pretty sure from all your complaints a few days ago, you don't want to face me while I'm sick. Or... are you willing to take care of me again?"
She wrinkled her nose with a small pout and let her head fall to his shoulder again while muttering, "You're the worse."
"Be more grateful, princess. Where can you find a boyfriend like this?"
"Yeah, still. You're the worst."
"If you look at it on the positive side, don't you think that it's kind of like we're practicing fairness in our relationship?"
"Shut up and feed me," she said in a half whiny tone, burying her face into the crook of his neck.
Jungkook laughed and she felt his arm moved to wrap around her waist. "Look at you being clingy now."
