Chaeyoung angrily shoved a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth and ignored the dripping ones from the side of her mouth.
She was so excited that she was going to attend prom in two weeks and at the fact that she had a date, like, finally. But then a text message came in when she finally bought herself a beautiful dress and the next thing she did was weep on the floor inside her room, the new dress replaced the tissue she couldn't find to wipe her unstoppable tears and snot.
Chaeyoung, I'm sorry but I forgot to tell you that I can't attend the prom –Jimin
She wouldn't be that angry to Jimin if he hadn't lied to her. The next day when she went to school, Jennie, the girl who sat behind her was giggling with Jisoo, talking about how Jimin had finally asked her out to prom and that Jimin had sang the most romantic love song ever in front of her house although he was chased away by her father and other neighbors for causing disturbance at midnight.
Chaeyoung gritted her teeth. Jimin asked her out to prom by a text message. Well, Jimin might not be Chaeyoung's crush and she might have been eager to say yes because she was desperate since no one asked her but that didn't mean Jimin could take her for granted.
Her phone vibrated on her side and she sighed when she saw her best friend's face on the screen.
"What do you want?" she asked coldly.
"Whoa, what's up with you? I thought your period ended last week," Jungkook said.
"If you don't have nice things to say, just shut up."
There was a long silence before he asked, "Is something wrong, Rosie?"
"Nothing's wrong."
Jungkook snorted on the other line. "Quit lying. You're the worst liar ever alive."
Chaeyoung rolled her eyes and licked her sweetened lips. "If you know there's something wrong, then why do you need to ask that stupid question?"
Sigh answered her before he said, "I'll beat Jimin for you if you want."
Her eyes widened and she gritted her teeth. "You knew about that yet you asked!" she yelled to her phone and her brother yelled back at her from the next room telling her to shut up.
"Sorry," Jungkook said, anything but serious as he chuckled. "But yeah, it's not that you like him, right? Besides, you haven't bought your dress anyway."
Chaeyoung turned to the pitiful dress pooled at the foot of her bed. "I freaking bought one, Jungkook," she said flatly.
A moment later, she heard Jungkook's mom yelling his name and he told her not to hang up as he went to fulfill his mom's wish for him to wash the dishes he left behind. He went back five minutes or so later, and suddenly started a new topic.
It wasn't that new, he was still talking about prom. He was talking about Seokjin who boasted to everyone that he was going to wear his new expensive tuxedo to prom with his date, and Namjoon and Yoongi who opted for hip hop themed outfit along with their dates and Jungkook said that he had seen their outfits and that they were really cool. He talked about Hoseok's as well, that the latter along with Taehyung was going to wear something that would make them look like TV stars and that he envied them a lot.
Chaeyoung let out a groan and mumbled incoherent words to show her frustration. She really didn't need to hear everyone's outfit for prom because well, apparently, she couldn't wear hers.
Jungkook was either insensitive or he was just dumb when he continued talking about it, ignoring her attempt at asking him to stop talking.
"So, what do you think I should wear?" Jungkook asked. "I mean, what color?"
Chaeyoung gripped the spoon tighter as she put her phone on her desk, putting Jungkook on a loudspeaker.
"Park Chaeyoung. Rosie. Roseanne. Rosé. What color should I wear?"
Chaeyoung slammed the desk with her spoon and yelled at the phone. "I don't know!"
She heard Jungkook sighed from the other line before he said, "Rosie, it'll be weird if we don't match. So tell me, what color is your dress?"
Confused, Chaeyoung furrowed her brows as she stared at her phone. "What?"
"Dumb and deaf Rosie is here," Jungkook muttered. "We have to match so what color is your dress? Tell me now so I can bring my mom to find one for me to wear to prom."
"Hah." She slowly chuckled but the crease on her forehead did not disappear. "Since when am I going to prom with you?"
It was silent for a few moments. "So I haven't asked yet. I thought I asked just now before I went to wash the dish?"
Chaeyoung kept mum, the spoon left in her mouth.
"Looks like I forgot to ask," he chuckled. "So, yeah. Be my prom date, Rosie?"

Jungkook found Jimin in the changing room and he made sure that no one was around when he approached the shorter guy.
"Hey, Jimin," he greeted.
Jimin looked up and smiled, "Jeon Jungkook! What's up?"
"Good, great," Jungkook answered. "I was fine until you stole my chance."
Jimin's smile dropped and he raised his brows. "Chance?"
Jungkook's eyes wandered around the room again before he focused on Jimin. His hand was quick to wrap around Jimin's neck, pushing the shorter guy towards the locker. "Listen," he began. "I want you to dump Rosie and ask someone else to be your prom date, you get me?"
Jimin's small eyes widened at him, swallowing nervously and Jungkook could feel Jimin's Adam's apple moving up and down against his palm. "But, Chaeyoung – prom is in two weeks and I don't think –"
"Jennie from Rosie's class is in love with you. Ask her. She'll say yes."
Jimin blinked. "R –really?" A small smile slowly painted on his face.
Jungkook nodded. "Tell me, would you go out with someone that you like who likes you back or someone you barely know who doesn't like you at all? Hm?"
Jimin's smile grew wide as he nodded excitedly. "Okay, Jeon. Deal."
Jungkook's lips curved into a slow smile as he released Jimin from his hold. "Thanks," he said, offering a high five to Jimin and the shorter guy gladly high fived him and went away.
With a proud and relieved smile, Jungkook went out of the changing room. All he needed to do next was ask his best friend to be his prom date.
