Bustin Wood and Corn Whiskey

Back in Wayland, Colt and Loretta picked up Ammo and Colt told Mrs. Birdie where he was gonna be.

They headed back up the mountain to the run down cabin Loretta's daddy had built.

"I need to bust wood and check the still," Loretta said.

"I'll bust wood, and your still runnin your papaw's still," Colt laughed.

"Some traditions never die," Loretta smiled.

Colt got the axe and took off his flannel shirt, revealing his gray tank top under shirt. Loretta couldn't help but stare for a moment before heading into the woods where the family moonshine still was. Over 20 gallons had been made since the night before. Loretta put it in jars and jugs. She turned the still off and took the liquor back to the house.

Loretta got some glasses and poured some cold sweet tea. She brought it out to the front porch. Colt was hot and sweaty. Loretta was gettin awful hot herself looking at him. She pulled her hoodie off and left it in the living on the couch. This exposed the side of her breast and her black bra. You could see the silhouette of her nipple bars.

"Want som to drank?" Loretta asked.

"Hot damn... I mean yeah I'll take some," Colt said almost drooling.

The two sat on the porch swing and listened to the radio. The song Coal by Tyler Childers was playing.

Tyler Childers was a boy from Hazard Kentucky, south of Wayland. It was another mining town so other people from Appalachian connected with him.

"So umm, damn it, I gotta calm my nerves," Loretta said pulling out a jar of moonshine.

"What about your dad's rule?" Colt laughed.

"It'll be ok," Loretta said broke the seal.

"What's got you all tore up?" Colt said taking the jar from Loretta and taking a swallow.

"Thinking bout Momma and Daddy," Loretta let a couple tears fall. "I'm gonna loose this place if I'on't drop out, Colt. I'm a minor, they'll through me in a foster home away from Waylon or make me go with one of my siblings."

"Why don't you go to college for welding or veterinary stuff. You were always real smart and the prettiest woman in school. Get outta this place make somein of ya self."

"Did you just call me pretty?" Loretta said confused.

"Well... I mean yeah," Colt blushed and took a hard shot.

Loretta took the jar and finished it off. She looked over at Colt and grabbed his flannel from the back of the porch swing. She thought to herself, Fuck it I've waited to long. She leaned over and kissed Colt's lips. The taste of moonshine and Skoal was delicious to her. She expected Colt to pull away but instead he pulled her closer and deepened the kiss. He parted her lips with his tongue and they explored each other's mouths.

Loretta pulled away and said, "it's gettin awful cold out ere. Wanna take some wood inside and light a fire?"

Colt almost whimpered and nodded his head. Both got up and Colt wrapped his flannel around Loretta and kissed her forehead. "Anything for you, darin."

Loretta went into the kitchen while Colt carried wood. Loretta made them some fried spam sandwiches and brought it out to the living room. Colt had a good fire going in the wood stove that heated the whole house. Ammo lied in the floor by Colt's feet. She gave Colt his and a hunk of spam to Ammo.

"Thank you ma'am, umm Lori?" Colt said.

"Yeah Colt," Loretta said getting closer on the couch.

He put his arm around her and finished his sandwich. "Lori, I... I... I love you. And have for a long time."

"I've wanted to hear you say that since I met you," Loretta blushed finishing her food.

Colt pulled her closer and put his hand on her exposed side as they felt the warmth from the fire and each other.
