Chapter 6
WOW I AM SORRY I KEEP FORGETTING.
YOU KNOW YOU COULD JUST PESTER ME TO UPDATE AND I WOULD EVENTUALLY BUT I AM SURE NO ONE CARES
Lucifer and Clyde's lives earned a kind of routine from then on. They woke up early, had breakfast, helped around the town, had lunch, had dinner and then went to bed. It was the same thing every day. Weeks passed and nothing changed.
Lucifer and Clyde had also befriended some of the villagers- specifically a couple called Elliot and Audrey. Elliot was such a happy character who had wispy blonde hair that fell across his charming green eyes. He was barely ever seen apart from his beautiful girlfriend who had thin brown hair and always wore the prettiest clothes.
One day, they were all together, walking around the village as they talked about... everything. Clyde was just rambling on about about a weird dream he had had as his friends laughed at him. "Yeah, literally! Everyone was going crazy and I-" Clyde stopped as he heard a scream.
"Did you hear that..?" Lucifer mumbled, furrowing his eyebrows. Someone else screamed as they all exchanged worried looks.
"Let's go investigate!" Elliot yelled, grabbing Audrey's hand and pulling her forward.
More screams followed until the village lapsed into a dangerous silence. Even the birds had stopped their cheerful tunes. The group ran forward, concern running through all of their veins.
They reached the edge of the village to find a group of men, all in black suits. Audrey and Elliot immediately stepped back out of instinct, their whole bodies shivering. "Lucifer, Clyde, we need to get away..." Elliot mumbled, his voice trembling.
"What? Who are..."
A group of men in black suits invaded my town, all our towns..
"It's them." Clyde gasped, his fists clenching at his sides. "They're the ones that invaded the towns." Before anyone could argue against him, he ran forward.
"Clyde!" Lucifer yelled, following his friend out of sheer worry.
Cold fists clenched at his sides, he yelled at the men. "You better leave this village alone!" Clyde yelled, threateningly holding out his hands. The men just sighed, holding up a large weapon. It had a rounded end and, all in all, it looked pretty terrifying. One bullet from it and you'd probably be dead in seconds.
"What are you going to do about it?" The man's voice sounded almost.. robotic. All the men, in sync, turned to face Clyde, their guns all pointed at the poor boy.
Clyde looked a little perplexed as they all, in slow motion, pressed the triggers of their guns. A scream filled the air but, as soon as it was there, it was gone. Lucifer let out a cry as there was a click of each of their guns.
Time stopped as the bullets flew through the air, as quick as lightning. Clyde held up his hands in defence, both of them trembling out of fear. He clenched his eyes shut, awaiting the impact of the bullets but.. it never came.
Clyde forced open his eyes to see that the men had turned to ice, as had their bullets. Their eyes were frozen open, their stares still managing to look extremely menacing. Their hands were still wrapped around their guns but icicles were hanging off the edges.
Clyde was so frozen into place that, when Lucifer's arms wrapped around his body, he jumped. "I thought you were going to die..." Lucifer mumbled before pulling back with a blush on his face.
"I almost did." Clyde muttered, still completely in shock.
"Next time, we discuss before jumping straight into situations like that."
"We won't have time to discuss, Lucifer. People could have died."
"You could have died." Lucifer whispered. His voice was soft and it sounded like he was about to cry.
Clyde shrugged. "I would have died trying to save a whole village."
"I need you though."
Clyde looked up to meet Lucifer's eyes to find he had tears filling them. "No, you don't. We were never friends."
For some reason, it felt like Lucifer had taken a bullet to his heart. It seemed like they had been friends forever but, in reality, they hadn't. The only reason they had been brought together was because of their powers and the endangered world that they had been thrown into. "I need you because, without you, my powers would go out of control."
"Yeah.. they would." Clyde left it at that.
"Clyde! Lucifer!" Elliot yelled, running forward, his hand still linked to Audrey's. "We're so glad you're okay!" Elliot grinned before gesturing towards a large van in which the men had arrived in. "I think we should investigate further."
Everyone nodded before splitting up to look around. Clyde began to head towards the frozen men but he was soon joined by Lucifer. "We can't be apart." Lucifer mumbled, staying close to his friend.
Clyde reached into the men's pockets to find most of them were empty. Most. One contained a piece of paper but, once unfolded was useless.
-
"Lucifer seems to really like Clyde." Audrey giggled once her and Elliot were away from the pair of boys. Elliot nodded with a small smile.
"They seem to be really good friends. I wish I had a friend like that..." Elliot mumbled.
"You have me! I come as a package, best friend and girlfriend."
"Lucky me then!" Elliot pulled open the back of the van and climbed inside.
The van was completely empty. There wasn't even the slightest speck of miniscule dust.
-
Clyde leaned forward, noticing a small black plastic around one of the men's ears. Upon leaning even closer, he noticed it was a listening piece. Clyde clasped it between his fingers and pulled it back a little and realised it was actually connected to the man's ear. There was no way of pulling it out.
"That's.. odd?" Clyde mumbled, mostly to himself. Lucifer hummed a response.
"That must really hurt. It looks like it's been attached to them."
"It does.."
-
"Maybe we should look in the front?" Audrey suggested once she realised the van was empty of evidence. Elliot didn't reply, he just walked around to the front and opened the metal door.
There was no steering wheel but, in its place, was a large screen. It was off but there was a small switch which probably turned it on. Elliot leaned forward and flicked the switch upwards.
A robotic voice called out, loud enough to shake the van. "Starting engine."
The van then proceeded to come to life, the engine letting out a flat hum.
"Destination: Headquarters." The van began to roll forwards and Elliot turned to Audrey in shock.
"Get out!" Audrey screeched, flailing for the door handle. "I think the van drives itself!"
"You only just realised?" Elliot mumbled just as Audrey threw open the door. She quickly rolled out, followed by Elliot.
"Why do they need a van that drives itself," Audrey mumbled whilst breathing heavily. "They're plenty capable of driving it themselves?"
"They may just be really lazy." Elliot laughed, earning a light slap from his girlfriend.
"This isn't a joke." Audrey, however, stifled a giggle as they stood up, dusting themselves down.
-
Lucifer just wanted a closer look at the weird ear piece thing. He leaned forward, brushing his hand against the man's ear. It was literally the softest touch, the man would barely have felt it but the little icicle dangling from the man's lobe started to drip. Forming a puddle on the floor, it didn't stop until there was no icicle left. Then, the minute heat surged through the man's face and then his whole body like an electric current in a circuit.
And then the man was free. Just one of the men. He robotically moved a hand forward to reach out for Lucifer but Lucifer ducked away just in time. He couldn't help but notice the man's threatening stare, fixed on him as he moved his body in almost a rhythmic way.
Without blinking, the man thrust out his hand and grabbed Lucifer who was too busy staring into his eyes, awaiting the humane blink.
Still without blinking, the man clenched his hand, crushing Lucifer's shoulder like it was made of glass. Lucifer let out a fragile cry as the man (still without blinking once) let go and he fell to the floor, wincing in pain. His shoulder was in agony and he couldn't even lift his arm up. Something clicked inside Lucifer's brain and suddenly he had a completely insane idea. "Clyde.." He mumbled. "I think they're.. I think they're androids..."
Clyde's eyes widened as he held out both hands. He didn't say anything as he froze the man again. "Androids? Is that kind of science even real yet?"
"Clyde.. do I have to remind you that we have powers. I'm pretty sure anything can happen at this point in time..." Lucifer winced as he stood up.
"True." Lucifer didn't realise but tears were filling his eyes due to the immense amount of pain he was feeling in his shoulder. He brought his other hand upwards and merely touched the bone before jolting it back with a soft yelp.
"Do you know if there's a doctor in this village?" Lucifer mumbled, realising how pathetic he sounded.
"Probably.. ask Elliot or Audrey."
"Elliot! Audrey!" Lucifer yelled and, just a couple moments later, the two came running across the field.
"What's up?" Elliot asked, breathless from running.
"I've hurt my shoulder. Is there a doctor around?"
"We'll take you there."
"Thanks.. so did you find anything?"
"Not much. We found that their van drives itself which is strange." Audrey chipped in, feeling the need to participate in the conversation.
"I figured out that the men are androids... I hurt my shoulder horribly in the process."
"They're androids? Oh.. that explains their incapability to drive a van."
I swear this is my least favourite chapter. It's gets better.
