Week Twenty-Eight {11-17/9}

Reminder of Rules:

<10: The book has less than 10 chapters, you can read up to a maximum of 5 chapters only.

>10: If the book you're reading has more than 10 chapters, you can read as many chapters as you like. This also applies to the Story of The Week (SoTW).

1. Read the chapter(s) and comment in accordance with the guidelines below**.

2. Add a comment on this page with how many chapters you've given feedback on (including Story of The Week).

3. You can leave a vote if you want to, but this is not required.

**You must comment on each chapter you read, focusing on the Theme of The Week, and tag your comments with the hashtag #CCBC (This also applies to Story of The Week).

Comment & Feedback Guidelines:

1. Quality over quantity – your comment should be detailed and helpful to the author, aim to write at least 3 sentences of solid, theme-focused feedback!

2. The devil is in the detail – taking the time to write grammatically correct comments improves your own writing skills too!

3. Treat others how you want to be treated – while constructive criticism is invaluable, it can be disheartening, so be nice :)

4. For any questions or issues you can always send a message to Sara () or Olleanna (), and we'll do our best to help you.

5. If you don't complete your assignment, I'm afraid you won't get any scores for the next week until you finish BOTH WEEKS ASSIGNMENTS, and if you miss the deadline two weeks in a row, unfortunately you'd leave the club.

6. Assignments are updated every Tuesday at 10 am in Cairo's timezone (GMT +2).

Let's get started for this week!

Weekly themes focus on different aspects of storytelling, this way if paired with a member more than once, you get to give feedback on something different.and this week's theme is: Sentence Structure.

❝A writer will have the essential elements of formal sentence correctness under control and will want to find the best ways of making sentences convey meaning effectively: how to phrase statements definitely, place coordinate thoughts in coordinate structures, subordinate to sharpen the relation between main assertions and modifying elements, eliminate unnecessary words, vary sentence structure, maintain consistency of tone, and smooth the general flow of words. Seemingly minor improvements—the moving of a clause from one position to another, a shift from the passive to the active voice, even a slight change in rhythm—can make the difference between drab sentences and pointed ones.❞ ــ Wikipedia.

What to look for in Sentence Structure?

Did the author use relevant sentences?

Was active voice prominent, or did the author rely on passive voice?

Were sentences monotonous and dull, or vibrating with life? Did the sentences have varying lengths and complexities?

Were sentences sharp and to the point? Or were they too vague, too short, or too unnecessarily long?

This week, Granny_momo is AGAIN our winner! 🎉🎉

Make sure you comment on at least one chapter of their story The Endangered according to the Theme of The Week, and the rules above, and don't forget to comment down here how many chapters you gave feedback on.

❝Everything started with a black out.

During the Enhancement Era, there was an outbreak. A virus that turned people into powerful creatures with corrupted minds, killing everything in their sight.

Nations have died because of the outbreak, and in order to prevent the extinction of mankind, they kept us in glass domes and bombed the infected cities so we can no longer be harmed by these creatures, and the virus itself.

But when a black out shut down our dome and left us exposed to the outside world, that's when I discovered that everything doesn't end with the bomb, it only begins with it.❞
