Week Thirty {25-1/10}

Reminder of Rules:

<10: The book has less than 10 chapters, you can read up to a maximum of 5 chapters only.

>10: If the book you're reading has more than 10 chapters, you can read as many chapters as you like. This also applies to the Story of The Week (SoTW).

1. Read the chapter(s) and comment in accordance with the guidelines below**.

2. Add a comment on this page with how many chapters you've given feedback on (including Story of The Week).

3. You can leave a vote if you want to, but this is not required.

**You must comment on each chapter you read, focusing on the Theme of The Week, and tag your comments with the hashtag #CCBC (This also applies to Story of The Week).

Comment & Feedback Guidelines:

1. Quality over quantity – your comment should be detailed and helpful to the author, aim to write at least 3 sentences of solid, theme-focused feedback!

2. The devil is in the detail – taking the time to write grammatically correct comments improves your own writing skills too!

3. Treat others how you want to be treated – while constructive criticism is invaluable, it can be disheartening, so be nice :)

4. For any questions or issues you can always send a message to Sara () or Olleanna (), and we'll do our best to help you.

5. If you don't complete your assignment, I'm afraid you won't get any scores for the next week until you finish BOTH WEEKS ASSIGNMENTS, and if you miss the deadline two weeks in a row, unfortunately you'd leave the club.

6. Assignments are updated every Tuesday at 10 am in Cairo's timezone (GMT +2).

Let's get started for this week!

Weekly themes focus on different aspects of storytelling, this way if paired with a member more than once, you get to give feedback on something different.and this week's theme is: Showing vs. Telling.

❝In a nutshell, showing is about using description and action to help the reader experience the story. Telling is when the author summarizes or uses exposition to simply tell the reader what is happening.

For example:

Telling:

John was sad to see his girlfriend leave.

Showing:

John wiped tears down his face as he watched his girlfriend board the plane.❞ ــ AutoCrit.

What to look for in Showing vs. Telling?

- When in the POV of a character, did the author describe what his/her senses showed, e.g., sight, sound, smell, touch, taste? Or did the author just tell you the dinner was very good?
Did the author describe exactly how the people acted?

- Was there too much abstract language where specific details would have made a greater impact on the reader?

- Were there many words like "very", "much", "really", "great", or "nice" when a more detailed description would have been more colorful?

- Did we get the chance to interpret what the characters were feeling or did the author just tell us directly?

This week, CrownedMadness is our winner! 🎉🎉

Make sure you comment on at least one chapter of their story Words and Music according to the Theme of The Week, and the rules above, and don't forget to comment down here how many chapters you gave feedback on.

❝'Words and Music' is a book of compiled short stories inspired by songs. Some sad, some sweet, and some even a little dark. I hope my book will make you smile, tear up a little, laugh out loud, dream of love but mostly remind you of why you love to read.

Go ahead and enjoy.❞
