Chapter Three

Lionkit wadded through the white powder, her head barely above the sea of snow. She was shivering, her teeth chattered. Her eyes were glazed over, and she seemed to be controlled by some otherworldly force.
Her paws moved slowly and unwillingly. She didn't want to be our here, she wanted to be with her mother in the nursery. But she had no choice.
Struggling though the night, she made her way through the snow, death surely awaiting her.

Cloverpaw's heart lurched. She felt like she was going to be sick. Oakpaw's mouth fell open, gasping at what he just heard.
The other apprentices were just as in shock. Peachpaw was shaking, Olivepaw had her tail over her mouth. Hollypaw looked calm, but her eyes told another story. Foxpaw and Thunderpaw looked solemn, hardly showing any emotion.
"We don't know what happened," Meowed Shadestep. "Lightstar is organizing a search party now."
Cloverpaw glanced at the cream and brown tabby through the falling snow. Her leaders brow was wrinkled as her mouth moved in a hurry.
"I'm going with them." She whispered.
"What did you say?" Quickwater asked.
Cloverpaw stood a little straighter. "I'm going with them!" She announced and spun on her heels, meows of protest following her.
The outburst made Lightstar lift her head. Her eyes narrowed at the apprentice. "Yes Cloverpaw? What could you possible want at a time like this?" Lightstar hissed.
Cloverpaw was intimidated, but held her ground. She lifted her chin, in the corner of her eye she could see Oakpaw, Olivepaw and Peachpaw standing behind her. Knowing that her friends had her back only made her more confident.
"We are going to help look for Lionpaw."
Lightstar scoffed "And why in the name of StarClan would I let you do that?" Cloverpaw froze for a second. She looked back at her friends. Oakpaw nodded, showing his support.
Cloverpaw took a deep breath. "Olivepaw and I are the fastest in the clan. We can cover more ground than an entire party. Peachpaw is the best tracker I know, and Oakpaw is strong and capable." Cloverpaw meowed, unsure if she could convince the bristling leader.
"If you were smart, you'd let us help." Olivepaw meowed smugly. Cloverpaw swallowed, hoping they hadn't taken it too far.
Brambletooth was fuming. "How dare you address you leader in such a-" He was cut off by a rare sound. Laughter. From Lightstar.
The old she-cat's raspy laugh echoed through camp, a rare spectacle indeed.
Cloverpaw was confused. Did Lightstar think this was funny?
The leader cleared her throat, her gaze cold once more, but she offered a surprisingly warm smile.
"I can respect cats that can stand up for themselves." She turned to Brambletooth, who looked at her with astonishment. "Well let's not just stand here!" She hissed
Brambletooth nodded, his jaw set with determination. "Alright! Crowbriar, Shadestep, and Stonedust will patrol the WindClan boarder and along the lake. Lilyspots, Sunnybelly, Puddlepoppy, will patrol the ShadowClan Boarder and along the lake. Quickwater, Shiningfern, Pricklethorn, Oakpaw, Olivepaw, Peachpaw, and Cloverpaw will patrol in between the WindClan and ShadowClan boarder patrols. Report back at moon high!" He yowled, flicking his tail, signaling the cats to go.
Cloverpaw nodded, reeling on her heels. She pelted through the snow, practically leaping to move through the waist deep snow.
Now that she was out of the gorge, she could really feel the chill of the storm. The wind nearly knocked her off her paws. The whirlwind picked up the snow, causing a sort of fog to appear.
As she bounded through the snow, she peeked back to check on her friends. Olivepaw was on her heels, Peachpaw and Oakpaw not far behind.
Cloverpaw's eyes glittered with determination. She would do anything to make sure Lionkit got back safely, even if it cost her life.

A small golden figure could be seen in the snow, her body convulsing from the cold.
A small splatter of blood could be seen next to the tiny cat, a vibrant vermillion that was like a beacon.
Standing over the kit was a shadowy figure, a sickening grin on its repulsive face.
"Ahh tiny kit." It rasped, barley audible over the roaring winds. "You don't even know how powerful you are to become, yet here you are, in my grasp, under my spell."
Lionkit looked up, her gaze clouded and seemingly in a trance.
"But I won't snuff you yet, oh no. I'll let you grow, make you feel safe..." The inky figure relinquished a wicked laugh, a sickly scream for one out of ears to hear.
"I'll kill you! I swear I will! Just like I did the rest of your kind!"

Sorry if this was short! I think I actually might start making them a little longer XD
