•THAT ACCENT, AND TWENTY-ONE WORDS

~H A N N I E L~

I walked closer and began hearing strangled sounds. Like sobs. Sniffs.

I was getting soaked by each second and I didn't mind. Not when I felt like I was getting close to finding out something about her.

It was just two of us, out under the rain while classes were ongoing, under dark skies, an already heavy rain, grey clouds and a cold atmosphere.

I had reached her. I was about to open my mouth and talk but she just had to be aware of my presence, turn around and glare at me with lifeless eyes. I took a step back unconsciously.

"What are you doing here?" I didn't know if it was the question but I actually noticed her accent for the first time.

It wasn't an accent which belonged to a certain group of persons or something... It wasn't a recognized accent.

It sounded like she owned it.

I probably sounded like I was saying rubbish but that was the truth. It was slow, careful and almost sounding like she calculated her words before speaking.

It did things to my head.

Things that I didn't expect.

Like making me smile while she was still glaring at me.

"Do I know you?"

My idiot self was still smiling.

"That's even impossible," she muttered to herself, the glare in her eyes immediately replaced with a distant look.

"Everything impossible is always possible," I found myself countering, still with that stupid smile on my face. "Just like now, I never thought you'd say 21 words to me in one day."

She appeared to be shocked, "What the..." she trailed off and looked away. I watched her as she stretched a hand out in the rain. It seemed to have calmed down.

"What's your name?" She asked without looking at me. That made my smile grow even wider, blowing into a full grin. She was curious enough to want to know my name.

Baby steps.

"You don't remember?" I teased.

"If I did... I wouldn't be asking." She finally turned to me. That brought me back to the way she savaged me in the Leisure Room and I brought a hand to my chest, nodding in acceptance.

"Hanniel," I said to her.

"Okay." She answered and began to walk back into the main building, the large one that had a huge CH embroidery on its roof. Even larger than the one you'd see on the school gate. Besides the main building, there were two other buildings each respectively by its left and right.

"Hey, wait for me!" I called out to her but she continued walking on, just ignored me and didn't bother to turn around once. "You haven't told me your name!" I added, still running after her.

"What do you want?" She asked as soon as we got back into the main building. Her voice colder than usual.

The look in her eyes scared me, even confusing me when she moved back from me as a result of me being at her front.

She turned around and began to walk down the hallway but I quickly grabbed ahold of her hand. Which I regretted because she was quick to swat my hand away. No, slap it away. Like, I had offended her in our past lives or something.

Like my hand was filth and it wasn't to be seen associated with hers. Like it was something unworthy.

"Don't. Touch. Me." Her voice was colder than I ever imagined it could be, extremely low, clipped and harsh.

She glanced down at her hand and swallowed, breathing deeply as she looked up at me.

She seemed paranoid.

Why was she acting paranoid about the whole thing?

All of a sudden, something from earlier struck me.

When I brought out my hand for a shake this morning, she didn't receive it. If anything, she seemed scared to. Frightened. Paranoid.

Who was this girl?

"I don't mean any harm," I assured her. Tried to calm her down.

"I don't care if you don't." She snapped. "Just stay away from me. You can't be seen with me, Hanniel-"

The way she said my name!

Fool, is that what you're meant to focus on? My subconscious mocked.

"-I don't want any problems in my life again, please."

She sounded heartbroken... So heartbroken that it hurt to hear her speak like that. Hurt so much that I took a step back, feeling the cold air swoosh against me in harsh reality.

She looked away and left me, started walking off down the hallway into the Leisure Room.

~K O M I S O L A~

I put my hands into the pockets of my hoodie. I was freezing yet my body was still as I sat down, staring into nothingness.

Maybe, I shouldn't have come to school today.

Maybe, I should've pretended to and skipped.

Classes were not ongoing and this so called Hanniel had been bothering me.

It felt like peace when the rain started.

I could hear the sound from where I sat, so gentle and calm. I had to go out and bask in the serenity of the rain.

The smell of fresh rain air filled my nostrils and cooled my senses.

The rain poured on me... Soaking my clothes and drenching my hair.

This and the clouds of grey.

I loved how the clouds changed their color whenever it rained.

Remember what I said about people running for their safety whenever there was heavy rain and clouds of grey?

I saw someone. A teacher.

A teacher who ran into the main building once the rain started, for fear of being drenched by the rain.

But I just stood there. So close to the fountain and so quiet.

Until he came.

And counted the amount of words I had said to him.

"Amir!" Someone yelled and I turned towards the cause of the noise. Behold, a short female senior, probably five feet two inches in height was squealing, and almost jumping.

What was her name, sef?

There was this bright smile on her face, her eyes were lit with happiness and she seemed like a ball of energy.

She was facing the door, arms folded in an expectant manner. And then said Amir walked in, clouding over her and legit looking down at her.

She shook her head at him and pouted, "I told you to walk fast. Sha come and help me carry these instruments to the Music Room. Lady Susan has asked me to help her with it since."

She began walking towards me. I was supposed to stand up, but I didn't. I remained on my seat.

"Wait, did she expect you to carry all these on your own?" Amir sounded surprised. "Inaya, mad! When did you start having strength?"

Inaya gasped and walked back to hit him on his chest, to which he didn't even budge. "Rubbish best friend," she hissed and turned around.

They didn't notice my presence.

They didn't notice I was here.

And I continued to watch them. Watch the two entertaining people who willingly gave me a free pass to their show.

And then the girl saw me.

And screamed.
