Blueberry Muffin
"Your lipstick stains on the front lobe of my left side brains
I knew I wouldn't forget you
And so I went and let you blow my mind
Your sweet moonbeam
The smell of you in every single dream I dream
I knew when we collided you're the one I have decided
Who's one of my kind"
One year later...
Yoongi was excited about his first day of work at Jin's café. He was grateful that Jin had hired him without having any past experiences. So far Yoongi's decision to move to Seoul had been going well. He was lucky enough to find a studio apartment in the heart of the city. The apartment was small and managing a budget in Seoul was very difficult but Yoongi did not feel demotivated. After all he was one step closer to fulfilling his dream of becoming a music producer.
Yoongi had realized two truths about himself at a young age. The first one was that he could compose songs which had the potential of becoming big hits and the second which was perhaps the most important to him was that he was gay. Yoongi's grandmother, his only living relative had panicked at the beginning on learning her grandson's reality but had later supported him. She was the only one who had suggested him to move out of Daegu, his hometown to increase his opportunities. Yoongi smiled and remembered how much he missed the old woman.
Jin's café was located very near to Yoongi's apartment. Yoongi had met Jin at a shopping centre when he had newly moved to Seoul. He had to buy the basic supplies for his apartment and had absolutely no idea what to do or where to begin. Yoongi had asked a girl at the store for tips on how to choose a bed and Jin had luckily heard him. He had introduced himself and helped Yoongi choose everything. Since then both of them had hit it off and on learning that Yoongi was in search of a job, Jin had offered him the position of a waiter at his café. Yoongi liked the ambience of Jin's café. He liked his co-workers but the decoration of the café was too pink for his taste.
It took Yoongi a few minutes to figure out his trade. He was a fast learner and a patient listener. Though Yoongi did not prefer to talk much but he was able to charm the customers with his laid back attitude. He had earned large tips from both boys and girls. Yoongi knew that he was attractive and that it would be an additional help to his personality. He did not mind earning the extra cash though he would often get eye rolls from Jin, who was at the counter.
Yoongi's shift got over at three and he had decided to celebrate his first day at work with shoju. He was serving his last order when he observed a black haired male sitting alone at a booth by the window staring off into space. Though Yoongi was gay he did not have the habit of stalking random males but something about this boy caught his eye. Yoongi noticed that the boy had to be definitely younger than him. He had chubby cheeks compared to his whole figure which complimented him. In addition to that the boy had full pink pouty lips and Yoongi had the sudden desire to kiss them.
- "Jimin has been coming here every afternoon exactly at three for the past year. He orders coffee and a vanilla muffin everyday and spends an hour doodling in his notebook. From the looks of it he is single."
- "Jimin?"
- "The boy at the booth you are currently eye fucking."
- "What?"
A slow blush creeped into Yoongi's face. Jin had caught Yoongi checking the boy out. Jin was completely straight with a girlfriend but he was supportive of Yoongi's sexuality. He would try to make Yoongi meet his friends and set him up on blind dates. Yoongi would always make sure to avoid each one of them.
- "Hyung, how do you know his name?"
- "Well look at him he is so young and an absolute cutie. I could not bear to see his sad expression everyday so I just had to know what made him upset."
The short period of time that Yoongi had known Jin, he knew that Jin had a sensitive heart and he could not bear see anyone suffering. Perhaps he admired Jin so much because of his pure heart.
- "So he talked to you?"
- "By the end of the hour I was only able to get his name. But I think he is an artist."
- "Artist?"
- "Well you might have noticed that he is currently doodling in a notebook and believe me when I say that it is the only thing he has been doing here for the past one year."
- "Oh! Um.. hyung, could I perhaps take his order?"
- "But your shift is over."
- "Well..."
- "I am kidding. Just go."
Jin winked at Yoongi and sent him to collect the black haired boy who now had a name- Jimin's order. Yoongi liked the way the name rolled on his tongue. When he approached the booth, Yoongi noticed that Jimin was definitely more attractive on looking closer. However he had bags under his eyes and looked very tired.
Generally customers would perk up conversations as soon as Yoongi would approach their booths but Jimin was different. He never noticed Yoongi hovering over him. Yoongi looked at Jimin's notebook and saw him drawing patterns on it. He did not understand what those signified but he liked his artwork. Maybe he was a painter or a designer.
- "Um... excuse me what would you like to order?"
Jimin looked up at Yoongi and made eye contact with him. Yoongi's breath hitched. He realized that very second that he had a crush on this boy and if Jimin came here everyday then Yoongi's job would certainly become more interesting.
- "Black coffee without sugar and vanilla muffin please."
With that he returned back to his doodling without paying any more attention to Yoongi. Yoongi had already learned what Jimin would order so it did not take much time for him to prepare it. Yoongi wondered why Jimin ordered the same thing that too something so boring everyday. He decided to spice Jimin's order a bit and changed the vanilla muffin to a blueberry one. Yoongi walked back to Jimin's booth and kept the plate carrying the items on the table without Jimin acknowledging him even once.
Yoongi noticed Jimin not touching or looking at his order for the first ten minutes then after some time he looked at the plate. Jimin's expression changed to puzzlement and he looked up to scan the crowd for someone. Jimin's eyes rested on Yoongi after sometime and JImin motioned for him to come over. Yoongi tied his apron and approached the table.
- "Yes, how can I help you?"
- "I remember ordering a vanilla muffin, why is a different type here?"
- "Well I thought the vanilla muffin was too boring so I switched it to the blueberry one. It does cost the same anyway."
- "You thought that vanilla muffin was boring?"
- "Well obviously everything vanilla is pretty boring and monotonous. Don't you think?"
Yoongi smirked at Jimin. Jimin grew irritated. He got up and left some cash on the table and left the café. Yoongi stared at Jimin's retreating form. Maybe he had gone too far. Perhaps the boy was straight and thought Yoongi to be some kinky pervert.
"Bad move Yoongi."
Yoongi pocketed the money and picked up the muffin to eat it himself. It tasted delicious. How could someone show anger on food? He returned to the counter to find an annoyed Jin.
- "That is the first time I saw him reacting to anything."
- "Reaction?"
- "Well he did get angry on you for messing up the order. And Min Yoongi why would you do that?"
- "I did not mess it up. I just spoke my heart."
- "If I didn't love you so much I would have kicked you out."
The next day on his way to work Yoongi wondered if Jimin would come back that day. Perhaps he had pissed Jimin off too much. However he would love to see that beautiful face again.
At exactly dot three o' clock Jimin entered the café. This time his entrance was noticed by both Jin and Yoongi. Yoongi was excited that Jimin had come back. Jimin walked up to Jin's counter and directly placed his order to Jin without approaching the servers and went to his usual seat. Yoongi was definitely not happy. Yoongi took over the duty from Jihyun who was assigned Jimin's table. Both the males smirked at each other and Jihyun patted Yoongi's back.
This time Yoongi placed in front of Jimin his usual coffee and a chocolate muffin. As usual Jimin did not notice the food at the beginning busy doodling in his notebook. Yoongi was closely watching Jimin and waiting for his reaction. Luckily Jin was busy with a birthday party and did not notice Yoongi's mischief.
Jimin stared at the muffin for sometime and directly looked up at Yoongi. Yoongi smirked at him but Jimin stared at him with a blank expression. He drank the coffee, stood up and just like the day before left some money on the table and exited the café without paying any attention to Yoongi.
"How long are you going to avoid the muffin and me pretty boy?" Yoongi thought to himself.
This routine continued for a whole month. Everyday Yoongi would deliberately mess up Jimin's order with different flavoured muffins but Jimin would neither eat the muffin nor complain to Jin. Meanwhile Yoongi had banged his first interview in a large entertainment company called Big Hit Entertainment. His interview was supposed to held at one o' clock in the afternoon two days later and he was sad that he would not be able to see Jimin for a whole day.
Yoongi was sure that the company had liked mixtape containing two tracks. He had put his everything into those tracks and would love to see them become hits. If he would get the job then Yoongi would move into a bigger apartment and perhaps send grandma some more money at home so that she could buy a few extra things for herself outside the budget.
Jin was not very happy with Yoongi's stunt everyday but he too wanted to see Jimin eat something else for a change. That boy was too young to lack fun in his life. However since Jimin had never complained Jin had secretly supported Yoongi's plan.
The next day Yoongi was very nervous about the upcoming interview. He was not much in a mood for chatting with the usual customers nor did he want to tease Jimin. He placed Jimin's usual order in front of him and walked towards Jin's counter to get himself some water. A very surprising thing happened that day.
- "Yoongi, Jimin is looking at you constantly."
- "What? He hates me hyung."
- "I don't think he hates you. Look for yourself."
Jin winked at him. Yoongi turned around to see Jimin truly looking at him. There was something unusual in his stare. Jimin had a blank expression on his palce but his gaze seemed to pierce Yoongi's soul. Yoongi made his way over to Jimin's booth.
- "Do you want anything?"
- "I would like a blueberry muffin."
Jimin looked down and took out his phone probably texting someone. He did not look at Yoongi anyomre. Yoongi felt himself grinning. He quickly went over to the kitchen to bring in a blueberry muffin over to Jimin's table. Jimin never paid any further attention to him but Yoongi found Jimin eating the muffin after a few minutes. Jin stared at Jimin too, his mouth hanging open.
- "He is eating it."
- "Yes."
- "How?"
- "I don't know."
- "Neither do I."
Jimin stayed a little more over an hour that day and for the first time ever he did not spend his time doodling in his notebook but actually talking to someone on his phone very quietly. Yoongi could not help himself from observing the boy. Yoongi was definitely crushing hard on Jimin and wondered if he could ever approach him. What if he was straight? Jimin could very well be homophobic. Yoongi hated anxiety but his brain did not spare him from it.

The next afternoon Yoongi had his interview in the main office of Big Hit Entertainment located at Gangnam. Gangnam was a bit far from his home so Yoongi decided to leave early to get there on time. This was the first time in his life that Yoongi actually reached some place in time and that to half an hour early.
Yoongi had gone through the whole thing almost till two the previous night. If only he could somehow charm the pants off of the interviewers just like he did with his customers then he would consider himself the luckiest person alive. Jimin's face swam into Yoongi's mind. Yoongi quietly smiled to himself and thought that he would not be able to see him that day but nevermind if he landed the job he might have to leave his work as the barista. He would not be able to see Jimin ever again.
Yoongi was called in after some time. He entered the room to find four people sitting inside. He noticed all of them. The man at the extreme left was the CEO Bang Si-hyuk also known as "Hitman Bang". He was acompanied by a middle aged man and woman and a brown haired male. Yoongi noticed that the brown haired male was very young and had to be about Jimin's age.
- "Well Min Yoongi we are truly impressed with the mixtape."
Hitman Bang started the conversation with a smile. Yoongi found himself relaxing a bit. Maybe there was a chance in hell that he could make this thing.
- "Well the music production department is headed by my junior Kim Taehyung here. Taehyung would you like to continue?"
- "Yes sir."
The brown haired male answered. So this was Kim Taehyung, Yoongi thought to himself.
- "You are older to me. Can I call you hyung?"
- "Yeah sure."
- "Well I am definitely impressed with the mixtape. The lyrics are super amazing. How did you come up with them?"
- "Well the song Jump and Tomorrow are very close to my heart. They are mostly inspired from my life but with a little improvisation."
- "That's great."
Taehyung clapped his hands and grinned at Yoongi. Yoongi liked Taehyung and could not stop from grinning back at Taehyung. Taehyung had a light environment around himself which Yoongi liked.
- "So hyung, you might have guessed by now that you have landed the job. But I am just curious about something."
- "What?"
- "Why do you want to go into production and not singing?"
- "Well I don't have really have a melodious voice but I can rap a bit. Maybe with time and experience I could venture out."
- "Yeah that would be great."
- "You can start from tomorrow. I will give you the contract papers. Will you come with me?"
Yoongi could not believe his ears. He had a job and that too in Big Hit. Soon his songs would be sung by idols. His dreams would become reality. Yoongi was congratulated by Hitman Bang and the two other interviewers who he learned were from the human resource department. Taehyung put his arm on Yoongi's shoulder and led him outside.
- "Let's get some coffee. My friend should be here by now. I could introduce you to him and we could also discuss the contract."
- "Yeah sure."
On their way to the cafeteria Taehyung told Yooongi about himself.
- "Well I am originally from Busan. Your music touched my soul. I could see myself in it. I studied at Busan University and moved to Seoul a year back. I head the music production department in the morning and sing at bars and cafés at night."
- "You sing?"
- "Yeah I do."
- "Then why didn't you go for a career as an idol?"
Taehyung's face grew serious. It seemed that he was remembering something painful.
- "Well I saw how vulnerable dreams could be and decided to back out."
- "Sorry, I could not understand you."
- "I don't either. Anyway I can see my friend has already come."
Yoongi saw Taehyung's face grow into a large smile. He waved at someone. Yoongi followed Taehyung's gaze and looked over to see Jimin sitting at table in the cafeteria waving at Taehyung. Jimin was not smiling.
Jimin was happy to see Taehyung after a long time. Taehyung had practically eaten Jimin's ear off to hang out with him. Jimin noticed the person coming along with Taehyung. It was none other than the barista at Jin's café who always gave him the wrong muffin.
"What is he doing here?" Jimin thought to himself.
