Chapter 4 ~ The Consequences
We both ended up in his bed again, where we ended up falling straight to sleep. I wasn't sure how that happened, but waking up next to him was the best feeling ever. I knew it was weird since Draco was supposed to be my sworn enemy, but I didn't care anymore. Just being with him made me the happiest girl alive. Ugh, I was such a girl, a moody one, to be exact.
I heard Draco yawn beside me, stretching those arms of his. He looked at me and smiled. "Morning."
"Morning," I giggled. "Did you sleep well last night?"
"I did," he replied. "And yourself?"
"Well, you were snoring really loud," I teasingly said.
Draco grabbed me by the waist and pulled me back down on his chest, making me let out a squeal. I felt his lips on my neck as I was laughing uncontrollably. He chuckled against my neck and placed me beside him on the bed so that I was facing him.
"Merlin, you're beautiful," he whispered in awe.
"I don't want to forget any of this," I admitted
"I don't, either."
I sighed and caressed his cheek, feeling the softness of his skin. It was a feeling that I could never feel when we went back to Hogwarts. I was going to miss it so much. I knew that Draco would miss my touch. I could see it in his eyes. The eyes told it all. They always did.
"Max," he whispered.
"Yeah?"
Before he could speak again, Narcissa came in. "Draco--"
"Mother!" he shouted.
"Oh, Draco! You didn't tell me that Max was in here." She looked at me and smiled awkwardly.
"Yes, she stayed in here last night," Draco explained.
Narcissa gave him a suspicious look. "You did use protection, right?"
"Mum, we didn't do that!" he groaned and hid his face in embarrassment while I blushed.
"Oh! I'm so sorry! Well, I just came in here to say that Blaise is expecting you at noon." She left the room, shutting the door behind her.
"I'm sorry, Max," he chuckled nervously. "I didn't think she would assume that--"
"We shagged again?" I finished for him.
"Yeah, that."
I laughed a little. "It's okay. So, any plans for today?"
He nodded. "I'm going to pick Blaise Zabini up from his house. He's coming back here."
Blaise Zabini was a Slytherin that I didn't know very well. In fact, he never hung around Draco. "I didn't know you two were friends."
"We only started hanging out at the end of fifth year."
I nodded and started heading for the door. "Well, I'll see you later, then." I waved back at him and walked out of his room, closing the door quietly behind me.
"Potter." I jumped and turned around only to see Lucius Malfoy standing there. "What were you doing in Draco's bedroom?"
"Since when do you care?" I retorted.
"I'm not stupid, Potter. I know you fucked my son while I was gone." My blood went cold. "Don't look so surprised. I saw you two the other night, snogging the hell out of each other."
"Again, since when do you care?" I repeated.
"Do you actually think that my son would fall for a dirty girl like you, Maxine?" He laughed out loud.
"I hate the name Maxine," I snapped.
"But that is your birth name, am I right? Besides, no guy would want to call their girlfriend Max."
Before he could say anything else, I stormed away from him and back to my room. I slammed the door loud, so that way he heard me. I finally snapped and broke down on the floor.
*******
It was finally one of those times where I was alone in the same house as Lucius. Draco went to go get Blaise, and Narcissa was in the study, keeping to herself. Never in my life had I felt so much tension and fear around me. I was scared for my life. I bet he was already planning out ways to torture me. But all I had to do was stay locked up in my room and I would be fine.
But I jinxed myself. Because Lucius came barging in my room with his wand in one hand and his fist clenched up in the other.
"Okay, Potter, let's get this over with, shall we?" he inquired, glaring at me. I started backing away slowly towards my desk. "We can do this the easy way or the hard way."
"Well, I prefer the hard way." Before I knew it, I grabbed the lamp from the desk and whacked Lucius with it. Then, I made a run for it down the stairs.
He was right on my arse when I reached the living room. Then, I felt his punch to my face as I spun around.
I fell to the ground and hit my head. When I got up again, he did the same thing. I fell to the ground once again. I was taking another beating from Lucius Malfoy. The blows were coming one by one as I was still on the floor, feeling numbness everywhere in my body. This beating was the worst one he had ever given me, but I still took it. I felt him pull me up and throw me against the wall, hitting my head hard again. Luckily, I was still conscious, but my eyesight was blurry, and all I heard were the shouts and yells of the man who was beating me.
"Fight back, Potter!" he shouted in my ear. "Fight back as if I was the Dark Lord himself!"
Somehow, we ended up outside. Using his wand, he flung me all over in the air, punched me, and kicked me. I was wishing Draco was here to save me from this horrible man he called a father. I wanted him to come so that I could jump into his arms of safety. Once my vision was clear, Lucius was gone.
For thirty minutes, I was on the ground, too weak to get up. The ground was cold and so was my whole body. I swallowed hard and then realized that I just swallowed my own blood. The taste of my blood made me realize that I had seen this before. I remembered seeing myself in this situation, in this exact spot where he left me, where two people found me. This was all a coincidence, I was sure of it.
SWOOSH!
The sound of brooms were heading towards the manor. I looked up to see two teenage boys, talking and laughing while making a safe landing to the ground.
It was Draco and Blaise.
I wanted to call out to them, but they were so far away. I started coughing uncontrollably, which resulted in coughing up my own blood, which made me throw up even more blood. Just looking at it made me get the thought that I was dying. I heard footsteps, then Blaise's voice.
"Draco! Draco, I found her!" he shouted.
Draco came over to my limp body and froze. "Oh, my...no, I...I can't...no...this isn't happening!" I could tell that he was now crying. He came over to me and held my bloody face in his hands. "Who the hell did this to you?"
"Take a wild guess," I coughed. Clearly, my attempt at being funny did not work out well.
"My father." I nodded. "Why did he do this?"
"H-He knows," I said, crying. "He knows that we slept together. He saw us the other night."
He bit his lip, trying to hold back the tears. He turned to Blaise and looked at him. "Blaise, go up to the house and find my mother." Blaise nodded and ran up to the house. Draco looked back at me. "Look at me, Max." I looked at him. "You're going to be okay. I promise. Just relax, okay?"
"I'm sorry," I spat out, continuing to cry. "I'm so sorry..."
"No, no, no, Max. You have nothing to be sorry for. My father will pay for this," he picked me up bridal style and carried me all the way back to the house.
I wrapped my arms around him and nuzzled my face into his neck. I got blood all over him, but he didn't seem to mind it when he was carrying me. When Narcissa saw me, she almost fainted.
"Max, dear..." She lifted up my face and gasped.
I rested my face on Draco's cheek, which was now covered in blood, along with his neck, hands, and black suit. "Mum, I'm going to clean her up," Draco said.
"Draco, please let me--"
"No!" he cried. "I'm going to do it. It's my fault this happened." I felt the hot tears rolling down his face and running down in the spaces between our faces. "Please, Mother."
She looked at her son with sadness in her eyes. But she reluctantly nodded. "Okay."
Draco nodded and motioned Blaise to come upstairs with him. The boys took me to Draco's bathroom and placed me up against the bathtub carefully so I wouldn't fall over.
Blaise shut the door behind me. "So what do we do now?" he asked Draco.
"Go to her room and get her some clean clothes," he said. "Her pajamas will work."
"What are you going to do with those clothes?"
"Burn them. I'll never get the blood out of them." Blaise nodded and left to go get what Draco told him to get.
"Dr-Draco," my voice cracked. "My head...it hurts..."
"I know it hurts. Just relax for me, alright?" He pulled out his wand from his pocket.
"You're not allowed to use magic outside school," I mumbled.
"I don't care." He started fixing my face by getting rid of the bruises and cuts. "Okay, that's enough with the wand." He began to use a washcloth to get rid of the blood, gently wiping my face and asking me if I was bleeding anywhere else. I shook my head and waited for Blaise to come back.
Blaise finally showed back up, closing the door behind him. "Here." He came back to the bathroom with my pajamas in his hands.
"Thanks, mate." He took the clothes and placed them by the sink. "I'm sorry you have to get involved in this, Blaise."
"No worries. I am a bit shocked, though. Potterette lives with you?"
"Please don't tell anyone, Blaise. No one is supposed to know, and please don't tell anyone that we slept together." Draco looked at my crying face and brushed his thumb across my cheek.
"I promise," he said. "Look, I'll just go now. See you at school."
"Okay, see you soon." Once Blaise left the bathroom, he looked back at me and continued to caress my cheek.
"D-Draco?"
"Yeah, Max?"
I didn't say anything. Instead, I just let the tears flow down my face. "He was just too strong..."
"Shh, this isn't your fault." He kissed my forehead and pulled my body against his. "Why don't you change into your pajamas and then come back to my room, okay?" I nodded and he left the bathroom.
I changed into my pajamas and groaned at each step to Draco's bedroom. Every inch of my body was sore from the pain it just went through. I was ready to collapse onto his bed and into his arms, his perfect, warm, buff arms.
I knocked on his door and he yelled for me to come in. I walked inside his room and quietly shut the door behind me. I shivered at my feet touching the floor at each step I took.
Draco took notice of this. "Come here." He gently took my hands and led me towards the bed. Draco laid down first and pulled me on top of him.
"Thank you," I sighed in relief.
"How do you feel?"
"What do you think?"
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be. This isn't your fault."
"Yes, it is, Max," he protested, tearing up. "I was the one who kissed you first and started this. I wasn't here to defend you from my father, either."
"Draco." I got off of him and laid beside him, placing both of my hands on his face. "You didn't know this would happen." I paused, huffing a sigh. "You know, I kept on telling myself that sleeping with you was a mistake. But I don't think it was."
"I've made mistakes, Max, but that night isn't one of them." He smiled weakly at me. "But when the time comes to go back to Hogwarts, we have to stay away from each other."
"Is that really what you want?" I questioned him.
He hesitated before answering. "No, it's not. But it's for the best, for both of us."
I nodded in disappointment and laid down beside him. "When am I leaving?"
"I'm going to get you out of here tomorrow night," he replied.
I nodded once again. "I just want you to hold me one last time. Before I leave."
He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled the covers over the two of us. "I'm going to miss this," he whispered.
While laying down with my eyes open, I spotted a flower by the window. "What's that?"
"It's a rose," Draco said. "I figured this room could use a little color."
I smiled a little. "I love it." With that, I cuddled next to Draco. I was definitely going to miss this.
