A lullaby before the storm

Touka folded the last piece of garnment and put it away to the wooden closet.

She took a look around. A big metallic bed was the centerpiece of the room. White sheets were covering it and a big, fluffy brown blanket. Two big ceiling high windows were in one side of the room, thick cream curtains were blocking the sunlight though. A drawer and a closet made out of dark wood were now storing their belongings. Two glassy bed side furnitures were completing her room’s decoration. She had her own bathroom too, she hadn't checked it yet though. She sighed.

She made Shuu vow to her that Kaneki rarely -mostly never- used this side of the mansion. She couldn’t help but feel like she made a grave mistake by coming here. If everything went to Hell, she wouldn’t think about it twice before getting into a fight with her long lost husband. She was sure she didn’t have a chance compare to the crazy one eyed king, no matter how hard she was training back in London.

The problem was, she didn’t want to fight  Kaneki.

Her son’s laughter as he squeezed his toy made her focus on him. Day by day, yoru was growing up to a fine little man. He was healthy, fed and full of happiness. She didn’t want it to change that by having her husband enter his life. The pure darkness as Ayato poeticly referred to him.

She could leave. Take Yoru and return to London. And lose Kaneki forever. If his plan to kill every single member of CCG came out as planned, Kaneki would become what he always hated.

A cold blood killer.

Or she could stay. Forcing his stupid brain to begin working again. See how wrong was his approach. He could find another solution. A bloodless one. A solution to spare all those humas lives and leave ghouls live in peace. Maybe motherhood made her weak. She wasn’t the voice of logic, she was the hot-headed killer that solved her problems with fists and bites and kagune shards.

She looked at her son’s eyes. Kaneki's grey pools were staring back at her smiling widely. Yea, she should be the voice of reason for this matter. After she beats him into a pulp. There was no way in earth that he would believe that she was indeed her and not another CCG scheme. She couldn't blame him though. She probably wouldn’t believe it either judging by her reaction to his TV spot.
And what the hell was that? Really? A tv spot? How much had Tsukiyama  messed with his brain?

Shitty Tsukiyama!

So now, she had one problem. One problem that was currently chewing the leg of a stuffed bear.

«Yoru…» she called him making him turn his attention to her. She let the teddy to the side and picked up her son. He placed his head on the side of her neck and wrap his tiny legs around her waist. She held him close letting his steady heartbeat sooth her fear that was boiling under her skin.

If she failed to make Kaneki realize it was her soon enough during the fight, she may end up dead. And what about Yoru then? She was sure than even in his clouded mind he could see the resemblance. He could smell his blood running inside Yoru's vains. If he could take one freaking minute to calm himself though. She had to place him in the arms of her brother if she failed.

She paced slowly across the room, humming a lullaby to her son while doing it.

She placed two fingers in the middle of his shoulder blades and Yoru laughed . She did the same on the base of his spine. He did the same sound. She closed her eyes. That was the other thing she was afraid of. Although, too soon to know, her son’s extra sensitivity in those two spots could mean only one thing. He has born a chimera. A ghoul child that was carrying both of its  parent's kagunes. If that was the case… she needed Kaneki to teach their son how to use his rinkaku type powers. She ... was forced to use her kagune in an early age, never managing to unlock her abilities as her brother did. And she didn’t want Yoru to end up like Hinami. Forced to draw both of his kagunes because of a forced event. If he knew that his mother was getting ready to fight his father with all her might, he would want to protect her.

Fuck Kaneki’s morality that had passed down to their son.

«Mommy?» her son’s voice forced her out of her trail of thoughts and looked at him.
«Yes, Yoru?» He got comfortable in her arms.
«Now that daddy knows, he will come after us?»
«Your father won’t hurt you, you know that» she answered. She was praying he couldn't hear the insecurity in her voice.
«He will hurt you?» Touka peaked from her curtain the green forest outside. Trees were covered in snow and the small road was covered with tire marks.
«Ken could never hurt me…» she whispered. The silent tear that traveled across her cheek got absorbed by her son’s hair.

Kaneki didn’t wait for Naki.

He didn’t even gave any attention to Nishiki that now was trying to stop him. He was running fast, using his kagune as a leverage as he was jumping from roof to roof, approaching the mansion as fast as he could.

He wasn’t an ukaku. Speed wasn’t his advantage but he was faster than the two ghouls that were following him suit. That gave him the advantage of time. Time he didn’t want to spend away from her anymore. Away from his son. Their son. Hot tears were now falling quick on his scale covered face.

How she would react to his deformation?

She would be discussed by him? By what he did, because of grief and desperation? By the lack of power he had to protect the children. Her. Their child.

His scream echoed through the forest.
How in Hell could he believe that Kazuki guy? Ok, he may had a photo of her and their child in his wallet, thing very disturbing but not the time to think about it, and yes, he may had never saw her dead body but it couldn’t be, right? That would mean that she left him.

NO! His mind screamed at him. She didn’t leave you. She fled. To save your child. To save herself. And she did, apparently. She managed to escape this Hell. And when he went and announced his mad plan, she responded to his call. She responded to him. Kazuki told him about her reaction to the TV spot. She broke. She thought he was dead. He thought she was dead. How much does fate hate him? Why?
He banged the mansion door open. He was sweaty and panting and as soon as Shuu appeared on top of the stairs, Kaneki’s kagune pierced through his expensive clothes and flesh and pinned him to the wall behind him.

«Where is she?» his whisper was barely audible. Nishiki and Naki jumped from behind him but two more red tentacles grabbed both guys and threw them against the wall. Shuu looked at his king's eyes. He could see the sadness and the sorrow that he always carried but, in his stormy grey, he could see some flakes of hope.

«My king…» Shuu tried to speak but Kaneki screamed on his ear and threw him on top of Naki that was trying to stop him again. He run widly opening every door in the huge mansion. He made a turn and now in front of him, Hinami and Ayato were blocking his path.
«Move» he hissed between his teeth. Ayato stepped in front of Hinami, protecting her.
«Kaneki… you don’t want to fight me». His voice low. Dangerous. His eyes glowing red, the white in his eyes covered by the black sclera.
«Ayato… please» he growled.
«Ayato.» Kaneki’s pupils dilated. More tears were blocking his vision. «Please» a whimper escaped from his lips.

Her voice… her precious, long gone voice. He could see a pale hand grabbing his brother's in law shoulder and pushing him to the back. He wipped his eyes fast with the back of his palm. Black hair came into his view. Big, violet eyes. Her cute little button nose. The lips who loved to kiss once upon a time. Her face. Her. She was here. Here.
And then Kaneki screamed and attacked.
