Past or Future?

The year is 2095, Earth is a giant, deserted, ruined planet. No one and nothing rules except anarchy. I myself am a time traveler from the future, I came back to try to make this era a better place, but I failed.

I am now kneeling and begging for my life in front of this highway man who got the better of me.

"Who are you?"

"I am..." He walked towards me, "Your doom." Then he pulled the trigger, and sent a laser bolt into my head.

But that is all in the past, or should I say, the future.
