Chapter 8: Introductions On The First Day
It was now the beginning of April, meaning that the new school year was starting up. I can't believe that those months flew by so fast. It seemed like yesterday when the principal called in Zuku, Katsu, and me to congratulate us on getting into UA. But, let me tell you, Katsu was not happy when he found out that Zuku passed the exam. The air was thick with tension, and it was all because of the spikey blonde.
"I can't believe that there isn't one, but three from my school is going to UA!" I remembered the principal smiling happily, "And to think you're one of them Midoryia! It's a miracle!"
I couldn't help but smile at those words. Katsu never believed that Zuku could ever make it, but here we are. We were standing side by side, Zuku to my right and Katsu to my left. Honestly, I was afraid that the angry blonde would do something, so I made sure to stand in between them.
The talk lasted for a couple more minutes until he excused the boys, wanting to talk to me for a little more. Both of the boys had a questioning look on their faces but left anyway. It was now just the principal and me in the room, making me feel uneasy.
"Out of the three of you students, I am even more impressed with you, (L/N)," He finally said after a couple of moments of silence, "I even heard that you placed first in the exam before Bakugo! To think that you are only a twelve-year-old makes me amazed!"
"Well, it wasn't easy..." Then, finally, I mumbled out loud, "I was in pain for almost a week because of it."
"That just shows you how far you can go to achieve your goals," The principal smiled, closing his eyes in the process, "Your parents would be proud of you if they are here today." Forcing a smile, I placed my hand over my chest.
"They are always with me, in my heart," I felt the tears stinging my eyes, but I blinked them away, "I know that they are. So, that's why I did my best in that exam. They will always be watching over me, and I didn't want to disappoint them."
"Well, you certainly didn't," He opened his eyes again, eyeing me carefully, "It's sad to see you go since you have only been here for a year now. But, I know that you will bounce back up no matter what hits you in high school (L/N). You have grown into a smart, mature young lady, don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
"Age is just a number," My smile turned into a genuine one that now reached my eyes, "That is what my father told me before he passed, so I'll keep those words to heart when things get hard."
"(F/N) (L/N) was always one of a kind and always knew what to say."
"I know..."
"Well, I should let you get going then, (L/N)," The principal stood up, holding out his hand towards me, "It was a pleasure having you attend my school. Good luck in high school!"
I couldn't help but stare at myself in the mirror when I finally finished getting ready. It was weird seeing me dressed in the UA high uniform instead of my middle school one.
The UA uniform consisted of a gray dress jacket with green stripes decorating it on the sleeves and a collar over my white dress shirt. In between the two fabrics was a red tie that I neatly tied as it hung nicely from my neck. The skirt was of the same color as the green stripes making the outfit match perfectly. I even put on my regular thigh-high socks-+ which I was glad that I kept.
I decided to keep my hair down, my long (h/c) draping down my back, reaching my waist. I've been thinking of cutting my hair recently, but I just haven't had the time to do so. So even though it's passed the exam, I kept training and exercising so my body could handle more of my quirk. Glad I did so because I look good in this uniform.
My body was more defined, showing off my curves through the uniform. I even had to buy new bras since my chest grew over the past couple of months. It wasn't small or too big, which I was worried about. My mom had a bigger chest, which created a lot of back issues for her. Thankfully, I don't have to worry about that now.
"(Y/N)!" I heard my name called out, getting me out of my daze.
"Coming!" Taking a quick look around my room, I grabbed what I needed before heading downstairs.
These days, Amaya has been doing better. Her drinking has gone down by a ton, and she now has the energy to get up in the mornings. Don't get me wrong, she still misses her son, but it doesn't affect her as much. Amaya also has been hanging out with Inko and Mitsuki a lot more since I am friends with their sons. I couldn't be happier that they are all getting along.
Stepping down from the last stair, I saw Amaya waiting for me by the front door. She wanted to tag along for my first day of school, just dropping me off at class. When she asked, I agreed to it and asked the principal. Thankfully, he accepted since I am the youngest in my class, and I told him about Amaya's worries. If taking me to school would help her, I'm glad to help.
"Do you have everything?" Amaya questioned, already knowing that she was nervous, "I already have my pass, so I'm all good to go."
"Yeah, I have everything," I replied, chuckling, "Don't worry about it. Everything will be fine, I promise." Then, taking her hand in mine, we left.
When we moved to Japan, her son was in his last year of high school, and I was in my first year of junior high. Students at his high school were not friendly towards newcomers, so he was bullied. He never told anyone anything until he ran away, writing a letter to Amaya saying goodbye. It was funny, if you think of it, once the most popular kid in school who bullied others into being the one who got bullied.
I can't say that I miss him though, he was an asshole.
The train station was crowded with adults on their way to work while students headed towards school. We both waited for our train, talking back and forth about what we should do after school. Amaya was going to pick me up since she had the day off. She was worried, so she asked off, wanting to be there for my first day of high school. It was only for today, however, which showed through her face.
"Are you excited?" Amaya asked when we boarded the train, taking a seat next to me.
"Sure am!" I grinned, feeling my heart race a little, "Sure, I'm nervous, but that is nothing compared to my excitement!" She smiled, too, tightening her grip on my hand.
"I'm glad," Her eyes bore into mine, trying to read anything else in my eyes, "I hope you don't mind me coming with you. I know it was a lot to ask, but-"
"No, but," I cut her off, "I understand why you wanted to. I'm glad you asked because, for the past week, you have been on edge. You want to make sure that I am in a safe environment and do not have a repeat. I would, too, if I was in your shoes."
"Thank you for understanding, sweetie," Her blue eyes started watering up, but she had a smile grew on her face, "I can't believe your growing up so fast."
"Don't cry!" I exclaimed, grabbing her face between my hands, "Everything will be okay; I'm not going to leave you. I'm still going to be home by the end of the day."
"P-Promise?"
"I promise, Amaya," I wiped away the tears that escaped, "I'll keep my phone on just in case. I even enabled my location for you if your that worried."
"Y-You didn't have to,"
"I did because I know you care. I did it on my own, knowing that the hero course will be different than any other classes. You never know what will happen."
"I appreciate it, (Y/N)," Amaya pulled away, wiping off the rest of the tears, "Just let me know when you turn it off, okay."
"Okay," The announcement went off, telling us the next stop is in the next couple of minutes, "Let's get up. Our stop is coming up."
We both walked hand in hand, mainly for Amaya's sake. I didn't care for all the stares that I was getting for it. I was doing it to try to comfort her, and I could tell that she appreciated it. Then, walking through the gates, we went to try to find my class- classroom 1-A. Thank goodness that we decided to leave early because it took some time to find the class.
The entrance to the classroom was massive; the wooden door blocked the path into it. However, I didn't dwell on the fact as I opened up the door. It must have been for students who had mutation quirks that made them more prominent than the rest of us.
Heads turned in our direction, catching both of us off guard. Letting go of Amaya's hand, I motioned her into the room to follow me. Most of the spots were taken except for two desks. One behind a girl with black hair was up in a crazy ponytail and one behind Katsu by the windows. I went to the desk behind Katsu, but then I noticed the purple grape guy.
Oh, hell no!
"Oh! Katsuki, you're in (Y/N)'s class!" Amaya started up, walking over towards the said boy, "I'm glad that she has you here."
"Of course I'm here! Why wouldn't I be?" I glared at Katsu, making him gulp before continuing, "Need something?"
"If you can be a dear and watch over her, I would very much appreciate it," She smiled, clasping her hands together, "Not like I don't trust her or anything, but you know how she is."
"Amaya!" I whined, face-palming myself, "I can handle myself!"
"Yeah, no way, Glitchy!" Katsu remarked, showing off his signature smirk before looking back at Amaya, "Sure, I don't see a problem with it. Even though she is a handful, I don't see why I can't handle it. Of course, if it were anyone else, I would say no, but this is (Y/N) we are talking about."
"Katsu..." I growled, balling my hands up to a fist.
"Thank you so much! I feel better already!" Rolling my eyes, I walked away, going to the seat behind the black hair girl. I set my stuff down before looking over to Amaya and Katsu.
"I'll walk you out, Amaya."
"Oh, okay," She turned towards Katsu again and smiled, "It was nice seeing you again, Katsuki. Maybe sometime when you're not busy that you can have dinner with us."
"We will see," He shrugged, "I'll let you know if (Y/N) there gets in trouble."
"Amaya!" I yelled before walking over towards them and grabbing her hand, "Let's go, times up. Class is going to start soon!"
"Okay, okay, jeez." Without looking back, I speed walk through the hallway with Amaya's hand in mine. I know that I shouldn't be mad about her doing that, but I am. I'm not some kid to do stupid things to get in trouble. If anything, it would be Zuku and Katsu who would get into trouble- not me.
It didn't take long to reach the school entrance, the once packed courtyard with students now empty. The fresh spring breeze flew past us, making me calm down. Honestly, I'm glad that we moved here. I wouldn't have been able to see the beautiful sight before me. UA was different from the high schools back in America. Everything was clean and neat- just as a typical japan style school is. American schools would have at least a couple of trash items on the ground, but here there were none from what I could see.
Stopping in my tracks, I let go of Amaya's hand before turning towards her.
"I'm sorry that I rushed you out like that," I closed my eyes, concentrating on the wind around us, "I should've not done that."
"It's okay, I understand," I heard her chuckle, making my eyes open and look at her confusingly, "The way on how you reacted was cute, though."
"Stop it," I whined, trying not to roll my eyes, "Anyway, you should-"
"(Y/N)?!" I was interrupted by a male's voice that I recognized. Turning around, I saw a blob of green hair running towards us, waving his hand in the air.
"Zuku?" The said boy stopped in front of me, putting his hands on his legs to catch his breath, "Woah there! Are you okay?"
"Y-Yeah!" He breathlessly replied, gasping for air, "I was afraid that I-I was going to be late, so I ran."
"Zuku? As in Izuku Midoyria?" I heard Amaya question, making the both of us look at her, "So you're the boy that she talks about?!"
"H-Huh? M-Me?!" Zuku looked at me with panic in his eyes before looking back at Amaya.
"Oh, don't worry about it!" She walked up to him before giving off a smile, "If you didn't know, I'm (Y/N)'s stepmom, Amaya."
"Amaya? Oh yeah!" Zuku stood up straight, finally getting the air back into his lungs "(Y/N) has mentioned you once in a while. So it's finally nice to meet you..."
"Call me Amaya, sweetie."
"Alright!"
"Well, I better head off," Amaya started walking towards the exit before looking back at us, "You should come over for dinner sometime, Izuku. Also, keep an eye on her for me, okay!?" Before any one of us could respond, she turned her heel and walked off.
"Did she just-"
"Yep..."
"O-Okay then..." Zuku turned to face me, holding out his hand for me to grab, "Shall we go to class?" I smirked, placing my hand into his before squeezing.
"We shall!" He shook his head before we walked inside the building. I ended up leading the way since Zuku didn't know his way around the school yet. We stopped, standing in front of the large doors before reading the 1-A written on it.
"H-Hold on!" He yelped as I was starting to reach my free hand out to open the door, "Just give me a couple of seconds!"
"Are you okay?" I raised an eyebrow, noticing his nervousness, "It's just a class filled with students."
"What happens if Kacchan is there or that guy from the exams that you yelled at?!"
"Well, there is only one way to find out!" Then, pushing open the door, Zuku ripped his hand away from mine. I frowned, knowing that he wasn't a person who was very affectionate in a new place.
Zuku was always a nervous wreck, stumbling on his words and always had an embarrassing blush on his face. However, I didn't dwell on it when my gaze shifted towards the two students I recognized.
"Take your feet off that desk now!"
Oh man, it's that blue-haired guy again with the glasses.
"Huh?" Katsu cockily replied, his face showing a slight smirk as he grinned mockingly.
"It's the first day, and you're already disrespecting this academy by scuffing school property, you cretin!" The guy gestures angrily, already pissing me off as well.
"You're kidding me, right?! Your old school put a stick up your ass?!" Well, at least I know that Katsu can handle himself. Hearing a little shuffling behind me, I felt Zuku stand behind me. His hands were now on my shoulders, peaking over towards the to as he hid behind me.
"Just my luck..."
Oh, Zuku...
"Let's start over," Turning my attention on the two boys, I saw the blue-haired guy compose himself- placing his hand out, "I'm Tenya Lida from the Somei Private Academy."
"Somei, huh?! So you must think you're better than me! I'm gonna have fun tearing you a new one!"
Okay, maybe this is going too far.
"Katsu-"
"You would threaten me? Your own classmate? Are you sure you're in the right place?" The guy named Lida interrupts me, leaning backward in shock. However, Katsu wasn't staring at him anymore, but in our direction.
Along with everyone else in the room.
"It's him..." Lida mumbled out, obviously looking past my figure toward the green-haired boy behind me. Zuku tried to hide more behind me, but I quickly grabbed his hand and yanked him into the room- out in the open where everyone else could see him.
"U-Umm... Hi~"
"Good Morning!" Lida starts marching up toward Zuku, "My name is Tenya Lida-"
"Uhh... Yeah! I know," Zuku nervously puts his hands up, not looking into anyone's eyes as the guy freezes in place, "I'm Izuku Midoyria. It's super nice to meet you!"
"Well, it's very nice to meet you, Midoyria! Who is that girl behind you?"
As I saw their gazes starting to shift over toward me, I paused time, seeing the area turn gray. I walked over towards Katsu's desk, seeing that his legs were still propped onto his desk. Shifting his legs over a bit, I jumped on his desk- now sitting down on it. This might scare a couple of people, but what's the fun of having a boring introduction.
"Clockwork Disabled," I said, now seeing everything turn back to its normal color.
"Oh, she's- Huh? Where did she go?"
"Over here!" I giggled, seeing the students jump visually before turning towards me, "Hello!"
"WHAT THE FUCK, GLITCHY?!" Katsu yelled, already knowing that he, too, was caught off guard.
"Calm down, pretty boy," I cooed, placing my hand on top of his hair and ruffling it a bit before looking back at the class, "Names (Y/N) (L/N) if you are wondering! I didn't mean to scare all of you!"
"YEAH, RIGHT?!" Katsu yelled, crossing his arms in front of his chest, "GET YOUR ASS OFF MY FUCKING DESK!"
"How about no," I replied to him, ruffling his hair a little bit more, "It's so soft! Who knew?"
"I swear to god, Glitchy," His face twisted in a scowl as he glared daggers at me, "Get your fucking hand off my head, or I'll blow it off!"
"Fine," I pouted, taking my hand off his head, "Better?"
"Whatever," Katsu rolled his red eyes and grunted. He looked deep in thought, a pissed-off expression coming onto his features.
I wonder what he is thinking about that made him so pissed off. I kept thinking of scenarios until I heard a tired-sounding voice echo in the classroom. Was it me?
"Welcome to UA.'s hero course." Then, hearing the sound of something unzipping, I turn towards the door. It was an adult male who was lying on the ground in a yellow sleeping bag? He looked like a mess, his long black hair draping carelessly around the scarf he was wearing and those tired black eyes that he used to stare at us.
"WHAT IS THAT THING?!" Three people yelled, who was standing next to the man. Zuku, Lida, and some girl with short brown hair had a look of horror on their faces. I giggled, loving the reaction of those three.
"It took eight seconds before you all shut up. So that's not going to work." The man unzips the sleeping bag and steps out, "Time is precious. Rational students would understand that."
"You're our teacher, aren't you?" I asked out loud, already knowing the answer.
"Yes, I am your teacher Shota Aizawa," Our teacher looked at me, giving me a questioning look before looking at the rest of the class, "Right, let's get to it. Put these on and head outside." Mr. Aizawa pulled out a uniform from his sleeping bag, the UA gym uniform, to be exact. No one moved, blinking at the man in confusion.
Jumping off from the desk with a sigh, I walked over to him. Eyes stared at me as he handed my uniform, looking at me in disbelief before doing the same. I rolled my eyes before walking over to my desk to grab my book bag and left the room.
It didn't take long to reach the girls' locker room so I can change. But, of course, I was the first one there since I was the first one to leave. The room was quite big, with sets of lockers surrounding me to place my stuff in. I opened up my book bag, grabbing a lock before stripping myself of my uniform.
Putting on my gray tank top, the girls walked in, looking around the locker room.
"What do you think that we are doing?" Then, one of the girls asked, "Are we not going to orientation?"
"I have no clue," Another one said as I tried my best to ignore them, "Hey, you there?!" Sliding on my pants, I turned around. Everyone was staring at me as one of the girls was pointing at me. It was the girl that was standing next to Zuku earlier when Mr. Aizawa made his appearance.
"Didn't your parents tell you it is impolite to point at people?" I questioned, tilting my head to the side, "I too have a name, you know? Stated it in class earlier?"
"Sorry!" The girl lowered her hand before putting her hands up, "Didn't mean to offend you or anything! I guess I wasn't there when you introduced yourself!"
"It's fine," I smiled before looking at everyone, "Need something?"
"Aren't you that girl from the news?!" A girl with pink hair and skin asked, pouncing her way over towards me, "The one with All Might?"
"The goo monster?" I questioned uneasily, backing up just a bit from the closeness of the pink girl, "Yeah, I was there."
"That's so cool!" A girl who looked invisible yelled, waving her sleeves up and down, "Already making a name for yourself!"
"Wait... If you're in our class, doesn't that mean that you were in your last year of junior high, kero?"
"That's true and false." I shrugged, turning my back to them to grab my jacket that was a part of the uniform, "It was my first year of junior high..."
"You're telling us-"
"I skipped two grades, making me the youngest one here." I cut her off, sliding on the jacket, "Just because I'm youngest doesn't mean that you can boss me around. I can handle myself, so don't underestimate me."
Honestly, I didn't want to hear any more of their questions. It was getting ridiculous to the point that I started to get annoyed, so I enabled my quirk. I walked past the crowd of girls towards the door, now opening the entrance to the outside. As the door began to close, I disabled my quirk. Time resumed again, but I heard no more noise- meaning that they probably shut up finally.
Again, I was the first student to arrive, only seeing Mr. Aizawa standing there in the field. I sighed, sitting down on the grass before looking over at my watch. The day catching me off guard when I stared at it. If it weren't for my quirk, it would now be a month and a half into the school year. Wow...
"You know the time and the date is wrong on your watch." I jumped, not expecting someone to be looking down at my wrist. Instead, looking up, I saw that Mr. Aizawa was staring down at me.
"I know," I shrugged, smiling, "Well, technically, it isn't wrong. I rather not have to change it every time I used my quirk. It is just interesting to see since I have been training my quirk more."
"I've read your file after seeing your results at the entrance exam." He stated, now glaring at me, "You are going to have to work hard to earn my trust. For all we know, you cheated your way into getting first place and into this school." The words he said struck my heart, making me feel angry and upset. I didn't show it, however, keeping up the smile that was now forced.
"Even if I did cheat, you would know right away- my eyes give that away," I pointed to them, blinking a couple of times before continuing, "I'm not dumb, Mr. Aizawa, or should I say Eraserhead?" I raised an eyebrow, seeing his body stiffen.
"I'm impressed that you knew my hero name," He answered honestly, chuckling a bit, "Most students don't figure it out until I erase their quirk."
"I have a friend who looks up to heroes," I crossed my arms around my chest, "Anyway if you are so worried about me cheating, I can retake it. This time, I'll make sure it is enabled and whoever is in the room isn't affected by it."
"How do we know that you aren't playing us?" Mr. Aizawa rose an eyebrow, looking at me wearily.
"You're going to have to trust me on this one," I shrugged, "Besides, it would be obvious when it is enabled. You'll see."
"I'll hold you to that, (L/N)," He looked around, now seeing students walking up to us, "Tomorrow, after school. You are to report to the staff room as soon as classes are done."
"Rodger that!" I stood up, putting my hand out to shake, "We have a deal!" Mr. Aizawa took out his hand, shaking my hand before walking away.
"What was that all about, (Y/N)?" I turned my head, seeing Zuku walking up to me, puzzled.
I couldn't help but stare at him, looking over his figure. He was wearing the UA gym uniform, just like the rest of us students. However, the way on how his gym clothes fit him caught me off guard. It was obvious that all the training he has been doing has been working out very well. Zuku wasn't as scrawny anymore; he was built- his muscles showing through the fabric.
He looked good!
"It's nothing," I lied, shrugging off the stares that I am getting, "It's not important."
"Don't lie to us, Glitchy," Looking behind Zuku, I saw that Katsu was making his way over here as well, "Something is up."
Doing the same thing I did with Zuku, I looked over Katsu. He was more built than Zuku, which wasn't a surprise. I did train with him, so I know how he works out. Over the past couple of months, we haven't been able to work out together, so I was now looking at him with a fresh set of new eyes.
Damn, he made some progress!
"Just some extra testing," I waved my hands in front of my face, now worried that Katsu and Zuku are on the same page, "As I said, it's not important!" Both Zuku and Katsu looked at each other, giving off confusing glances as if they were talking to each other without words.
That scared me, seeing how Katsu isn't at Zuku's throat or Zuku trying to run away from him. Looking at each other as if none of the things happened in the past and still great childhood friends. It wasn't until I saw their gazes harden that I finally understood what was going on. It must have been about what Amaya said to them about looking over me. Now they were mentally arguing about it.
Or, so I guessed.
"Hey! (L/N)!" Rolling my eyes, I looked over towards the group of girls from earlier, "We wanted to apologize for being so noisy. After you suddenly left, we realized what we did. We didn't want you to feel overwhelmed or angry at us because of it."
"Yeah! We were just curious since you looked like her in the news!"
"We also don't care if you're younger than us! If anything, it makes you look cooler!"
Is this what it feels like when you have fans? Honestly, it's weird talking to the same gender as me since most girls from previous schools were so annoying. Sure, I had a couple of them be my friends, but they were the first to leave after my father passed. So, afterward, I never really trusted other female students around me. All they do is gossip, talk about the newest trends and social media from my experience.
Guys were so much better to get along, not as many fights that hold grudges after they are done. They were also so much easier to understand, having each group have a specific thing in common. Less drama to go through, and that is what I needed.
However, with Katsu and Zuku, there is always something happening with them. Hence, being a magnet to getting in trouble and having drama surround them. But, it was easier to manage since it isn't as bad. It was straightforward, and there are ways to get around it.
"Oi, back off!" I felt someone pull me backward, into their hard chest, "You're starting to make her feel uncomfortable!"
"I-I'm sure they didn't mean to, Kacchan!" Zuku nervously stated, looking panicked, "They were apologizing!"
"Shut it, nerd!" Katsu yelled, gripping onto my shoulder tighter, "Didn't you see her tense up?!" I sweatdropped, mentally cursing myself for being obvious about my discomfort.
"Of course I did!" Zuku yelled, balling his hands into a fist, "Doesn't mean that you can just grab her like that!"
"Hey-"
"DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO, DEKU! I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT!"
Well, at least they are back to normal and not acting as they did earlier.
"Boys!" Ripping myself away from Katsu's grip, I turned around, looking at the both of them sternly, "Calm down! There is no point in arguing here! I'm fine, but next time don't manhandle me!"
"QUIET!" All of us paused, hearing Mr. Aizawa yell with impatience, "Now that no one is talking, let's get down to business."
