Epilogue Part IV: The Death Of Reuben Monroe

Jenni's P.O.V.

The clouds parted slightly -- not enough to stop the rain, but enough to see down to the small crowd gathered outside of the tavern. A platform had been set up for the execution, with a single noose hanging from the bar that ran across the platform and was supported by a column on either end. Dad walked up the stairs, his hands in cuffs behind his back, and stood below the loop of rope silently.
"Today we gather to begin the revolution of Slovia!" Queen Theodosia hollered. The people cheered as the executioner pulled the noose over Dad's head. "We begin by completing the prophecy with the death of Reuben Monroe!"
Someone whistled and another whooped as the executioner pulled the lever and the hatch dropped, leaving my father hanging limply to suffocate. The light in his eyes had disappeared and the people still stood there, laughing and dancing. Queen Theodosia had joined them, a smile on her face at the death of Reuben Monroe.
