"Where's Ma?" I asked Grandfather hopefully. He turned, smiling warmly at me, his dark brown eyes crinkling at the edges.
"She's getting her kingdom back, sweet pea, she'll be home as soon as she can."
"Oh." I nodded.
"I'm sure Sir will play with you. He's in the study." Grandfather looked back at his book. "Run along now."
"Okay." I turned and walked down the halls until I reached said study.
Sir was sitting in a large leather chair towards the back of the room.
"Papa!" I called. He turned.
"Ah, Violet Marie!" He smiled, setting down the book he was looking at. "Come here."
I grinned, running over to him and climbing into his lap. "Papa, Grandfather said Ma's getting her kingdom back. Does that mean I get to be a princess?"
His blue eyes twinkled. "Yes, it does, Violet Marie."
"Really?"
He nodded. "Yes, dear. Do you want to hear a story?"
I nodded vigorously. "Yes please."
Papa smiled, sitting back. "Alright. Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess, and she made a wish..."
